it's a big mess now, so I would wait a bit b4 subscribing. these companies are being incentified to open solar farms, but con edison isn't following up with the credits.. basically, the whole system is backwards and messed up
(the original farm owners are 200k in debt waiting for the city or con edison to pay them back)

So it seems like there's no gain, is there a loss?

I don't know. I don't really deal with anything in New York that would meet the requirements for community solar

Little to no upfront costs. Since you won’t need to install solar panels, the upfront costs of going solar with a community solar provider are minimal.

if you know how to google, why didn't you google the name of the charge I wrote? It's possible some companies do charge it and some don't. I don't know.
I know I used the word scam.. I didn't mean to say that this whole program is a scam.. Like I said, I myself was a subscriber and it is legit. But while legit, doesn't mean the concept isn't a scam - people making money off other people is what I call scam.

According to this document it should not apply to community solar. According to this, you would be getting charged for your solar system but not for community solar.

I didn't Google the charge because I knew it had nothing to do with community solar. We've subscribed to thousands of accounts and never heard about such charges. OP can correct if this is wrong. You arent getting any benefits of solar. You are becoming a member, in which any credits offered by the govt gets passed on to you as a member. However for being a member the "solar company" is charging you to offset their "costs".

Note, this is a 10 year commitment with penalties if you want to opt out of being a "member"

Did you look at the contract? There is no mention of 10 years, it's a 1 year term that automatically renews, and you can terminate it with 60 days notice.

i did not look at this particular contract.

I have not looked at the contract in the OP. I have reviewed a few (from other brokers) that have sent me their contracts. I assumed this was the same program. If this is a different program than i stand corrected.
