HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

Ok if so why didn't he warn us before? And if he just found out about it now why would he make this comment prior to finding out:All I can say is that it seems there may be more to this whole story....
His intention is to be helpful and informative, there is no malicious motive to fool or mislead anyone. I wouldn't hold onto these conspiracy theories too strongly.

Obviously if it's not cancelled yet then they can't shut you down.
with all due respect, you've seen evidence of one or two shut downs. Is this a reason for mass hysteria?

What would be the first clue of being shut down?

your being ridiculous that second quote is talking abt getting messed over by not reading the fare rules and getting hit with cancellation fees. I'm done with this idiocy and will not be responding to this conversation anymore.

No conspiracy theory just something is not adding up...It seems there was something up regarding this whole refundable ticket saga well before any official warnings about AA closing accounts from numerous ppl, not just Dan...

Do guys here really think that there isn't a single member here that has a good contact in AA who can forward him a memo not to be publicized?

This whole saga doesn't make any sence.

1. How would AA know (if its not only for AA refunds).
2. Why would AA care, (they only make more money).
3. If Citi is on it, they would be shutting down the cards.

@Dan, AJK
Is this a crackdown on the Executive card only, or all Citi AA cards?

Im also not to happy beeing in the dark, but with all due respect do you think Dan didn't have that in mind when advising not to do this. Obviously his sources claim that this is not a 1 or 2 shutdowns.

Do you actually believe for a second that the "more experienced people" want to share every shtick they know with everyone??!! And when it slips and gets shared with the public many "experienced people" are not happy...
For the record I do not question Dan's integrity at all, I do believe he is and was trying to be helpful based on something he had heard, but it doesn't take away from many others here trying to avoid the subject entirely, and when it gets discussed trying to persuade ppl from using it when it really hasn't been confirmed that AA will no matter what automatically shut your account when trying this...

While you may agree with the sentiment, you shouldn't condone the childish name-calling, IMHO.
There comes a point when someone is posting such idiocy that you feel an urge to pee in public.

I dont think its considered childish name calling  when someone ikeeps repeating, questioning again and again people who have no motive other than to help him. I feel like I'll do him what someone told me a few days ago: "I will deep-fry your eyeballs and feed them to you".
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

AA cares.
10,000 people booking tickets that they plan on refunding.
Messes up so many things.

AA knows.
You might have booked the ticket with your FF #.
You get double miles and they know what you purchased and if you refunded it.

It is a mystery to me why Citi hasn't cracked down.

I answered all questions.
