When a deadly tornado hits it is plastered all over the news regardless of the race or religion of those killed.
And it is plastered all over Jewish news websites and Jewish newspapers as well. Just doesn't spark as many discussions in chat-rooms like this as stories that hit right home. Remember - we share both a religion
and ethnicity with our Jewish brethren, so our feelings of brotherhood run very deep. That's besides our concern for actual family and friends in Israel, which most of us have, when their safety is at risk.
As and aside, I recall during the aftermath of the massive earthquake in Haiti a Yiddish news hotline interviewed a Hasidic young man who got a few days off from work to join his employer on a trip to the scene of the disaster, where they helped out for a few days with search and rescue. That's what I would call genuine interest in global tragedies!
