Bank of America points
« on: June 26, 2012, 06:01:42 AM »
Does anyone know if I can sell my bank of america points for more than $1 each?

I'd like to go to israel for sukkos & i have a little more than 100,000 miles with BOA.

They're telling me that a $1700 el al ticket is going to cost me 170,000 points + fees.

Thanks!

Rivka

I'm sure you mean $.01 each.

But, in any case, the answer is no, unfortunately. Unlike miles programs, Citi's Thank You program is a "points" program where each point is set at $.01 of value, no more, no less.

He's talking about BOA WorldPoints not TYP.
Anyways, TYP can be worth more than $.01. Use the search, you will be enlightend.

Beware, your WorldPoints will one day start disappearing.

I'd been holding mine for 5+ years hoping they'd one day add some sort of new value. Because I haven't used my BoA CC for over 2 years, I never really paid attention to the points. About 2 months ago I began using AwardWallet, and a couple weeks later I noticed my WorldPoints balance had decreased by some 7K points overnight. I logged in to BoA, went to my points history, and it shows that each month I've been losing thousands of points. It also shows how many points I'll be losing in each upcoming month. Apparently the policy is that points disappear 5 years after they were accrued, regardless of current activity. IE if you earned 5K points in July 07, those 5K would expire in July '12, but points earned after that would remain in your account.

I tried chatting, emailing, calling with BoA to try and get my points reinstated - no dice. Their cash payout is less than $0.005/point, so I used my points for merchandise that I will resell. I found a pair of Oakley sunglasses I can sell for $240, which according to the Worldpoints point value was only worth about $100. A food processor that sells for $110; worth roughly $70 in their market. A suitcase that sells for $260; worth $110 in their market. So I will walk out having made significantly better value than they offered, but its still a shame that I lost all those all points.
