Well, it can’t be that the arguments I was mocking weren’t made, because they most certainly were. I can provide links if you’d find those helpful.
IINM the people using the car accident argument were saying that even though there are deaths associated with driving we don't stop driving because of that. They didn't say that there shouldn't be rules and laws for driving. Unfortunately, deaths and irreversible injury due to car accidents are a sad reality but you don't see entire states or countries shutting down roads and banning cars/driving because of the associated deaths and injuries. So the way I understood it was, that there needs to be rules and regulations and guidelines to follow regarding the virus but you don't need to totally shut down people's lives and businesses, etc. Maybe I understood it differently than others did.
However, irrelevant of all the above, what really bothers me is the complete and total inaction to the current crisis. This virus has been spiraling out of control and they knew it was coming especially due to the holidays and all the related traveling. And don't tell me its because Trump is in office there's no action. It has zero to do with that. Governors can and have taken action this entire time, but speaking specifically about NY (and I'm sure applies elsewhere too) there is nothing being done now. At all.
Sukkos time, Cuomo was busy harassing communities when the positivity rates were like 1/2 or 1/3 of what the statewide rate is now. And deaths were below 20 daily - repeat mantra: 1 is too many. Just using it for comparison to current rate which yesterday topped 200.
So why is nothing being done now? Because there's a vaccine with a bumbling roll out plan and majority of lay people are not even eligible to take yet? Its ridiculous.
And I'm not saying they should go run and close all the schools as the default action to pat themselves on the back that they're doing SOMETHING. There are other things they can do but instead are choosing to do nothing.
To me this just shows yet again how any and all action ever taken was political and not based on concern for human life irrelevant of which party was in power and doing it. Its not going to change on the 20th when Biden takes over.
