My understanding is that being an AU on any card will provide benefit for applying for a citi card. not that only being an AU on a citi card helps

I can confirm that it's definitely still helping the AU's credit reports. Possibly not as much as before, but it's definitely making a positive difference as far as credit line utilization and length of credit history. I just checked someones FICO last week and saw this clearly. (In case there is a difference,) This guy is an Authorized User.

It definitely still shows up on their reports. I just think that some banks, when they see that it's only an AU account, they disregard it

i had it many times that  it helps for amex (non co branded) i found it helping for amex more than citi

Well, if you get automatically approved, the likelihood of a bank "seeing it" and "disregarding" becomes less. Unless, of course, the computers are programmed to avoid it (which I doubt).

not sure but I had someone as an AU on my AMEX account (mine and their only accounts at the time) and they got declined for the SP while I got instantly approved at around the same time.

All my kids are AU’s on my Amex, Citi and Chase cards. All have real FICO’s of 790+. Daughters is 818. It is funny to see an 18 year old with an AAoA of 13+ years. Amex has been known to backdate AU’s. So once your child is an AU with say an issue date of “90” if they open a card on there own it will also show an issue date of “90”. Nice trick having a card for 21 years when you are only 18.

How about Groupon/living social/ dealfind/ the website with those cheap $2 restaurant certificates?

Do they qualify?
