When you buy anything else in life do you get the taxes back if you don't use the item? You bought a seat on the flight. Whether you use it or not is up to you, but why should you get any taxes back for not using it? Am I missing something here?

the taxes are belonging to the airports, the airlines are collecting it on behalf of the airports & they need to to forward it to the airports, so if the pax are not travelling for any reason, why should the airline keep the money, which is not belonging to them at all?
Reading the fare rules of a BA flight and it seems they should refund taxes and other fees in case of no show or cancellation.
wow, surprised no one here ever thought ab out this.always something to learn...on a flight to tlv, taxes can be a huge part of the ticket, being able to get that refunded, would be HUGE.
When PS had $300 nonrefundable tickets to TLV last year, I got refunded about $290 for taxes and YQ.
If you buy an item and return it, you are refunded taxes. If Amazon decides to refund you without making you return it, they refund sales tax too. .If you can't make a flight and call for a refund, you should get the taxes back.
