Just realized that you can get any priceline VIP status by booking hotels with the book now pay later option and it counts towards your account status. That means that you can advance to platinum without even staying at one hotel! I'm not sure though if there are any real benefits of this status but i'm just putting this out there!

No way, these are pay later reservations so there is no scam involved.
