I cancelled mine shortly after the first statement closed and. I even did it via SM. I expressed frustration that the annual fee was not waived the first year and that the offer was only 50K, and not available at 100K. The miles are definitely still in my account and I received a refund check within a few days for the annual fee. They were more than happy to move the entire credit line over to my SP card.
