What's with the inks and SP's? I'm not asking about their value, but if you're paying the AF that means going over a year without churning, which until recently there was no reason for. It sounds like you consistently pay the AF for these.
First year paying on my Ink and UMPE... until now I had been churning.
Didn't churn my SPG since Amex lifetime rule began.

So much for following the format, eh? Card -- Annual Fee -- Rationale and then Total.

What was the retention bonus on Prestige?
Added more details, the retention was 35K in the form of 4x extra on Airfare/Hotels/TA's (total 7x up to 35K)

Some say that at times there is nothing wrong with ending a sentence with a preposition.

However, the question asked in the title of this thread is totally grammatically inappropriate IMHO.

I therefore decline to answer the supposed question asked and refer this entire thread here:

Barclay Old US Airways    -- $89

Didn't it turn into the aviator?

Barclay Old US Airways    -- $89       -- 10K awarded on anniversary, so buying at $0.0089/point, a good deal IMO
BoA   Alaska                      -- $75       -- very large limit good for large spending
Chase Ink Plus                 -- $95       -- 5x
Chase Sapphire Preferred -- $95       -- primary CDW, 2x on dining/travel
Can't you churn these? Ok chase is questionable, but the other 2 really aren't?
AMEX PRG                       -- $95       -- 3x on airlines/2x on gas/groceries and no forex
Are you spending that much in airlines (not an MS category) where the incremental point (vs Sapphire) justifies $95? I guess it could make sense for you if you have TONS of taxes and take advantage of cheap fares and what not.

AFAIK, Barclay's no longer offers 10K/anniversary. BoA can be churned (and I do), but I'll never get the limit I have on this card again.

It's not just the additional point on airlines... it's 2x on gas and groceries, plus amex protections, plus amex offers basically pays for the card more than once.

What are yours?

@AJK I would have thought you would ditch the sapphire and go with citi premier in your situation for the extra diversity.

Chase SP gives me primary CDW, which the Citi Premier doesn't.

That said, I plan on applying for that card x2 this week :P

I'll start.

Card -- Annual Fee -- Rationale

AMEX Hilton Surpass       -- $75       -- $40K spend = DIA status
Barclay Old US Airways    -- $89       -- 10K awarded on anniversary, so buying at $0.0089/point, a good deal IMO
BoA   Alaska                      -- $75       -- very large limit good for large spending
Chase Ink Plus                 -- $95       -- 5x
AMEX PRG                       -- $95       -- 3x on airlines/2x on gas/groceries and no forex
Chase Sapphire Preferred -- $95       -- primary CDW, 2x on dining/travel

Total = $524 (which is more than I thought I spent)

I assume the total is just for you since it sounds like you double up cards with the spouse

based on most of those reasons, it wouldnt make sense for him to pay the fee for his wife too
except the barclays card if she gets the anniversary award too, and the ink if he exceeds his max

Amex SPG Business         -- $95       -- Amex offers plus only business cc (still can't get approved for an ink its depressing)
AMEX PRG                       -- $95       -- Amex offers on this card gets targeted for all the good ones.
Chase IHG                       -- $49       -- Free Anniversary night covers this easily,

Total = $139

it's not always worth it to have the same total high annual fee spend on some many for the wife's cards because most couples don't both spend/apply the same amount for both.
It's often that she has a few cards for some good bonus points. Many times, it's possibly 75% one spouse's spend and points and running to the GC stores and MO stores. Not usually both equally spending/earning points in most cases (other than Dan, Lou Bob, etc... )

What are yours?
I have never paid an AF intentionally (like once or twice I may have missed a refund deadline) but generally I convert and churn or just kiss it goodbye.

Do you own any Chase (not 3rd party Chase) cards?

So, I have a SP from last December. If I'm not able to get an ink approved by AF+60, I will probably keep it for transferring purposes. I can't lose that ability. It would be a first!

PRG is $195, but PGGM makes that effectively $95.
