So is there anyway to add an AU without a social? and does placing an AU's social affect their credit in any way? positive or negative?

Amex Requests for Additional Cardholders' Social Security #s
« Reply #30 on: January 03, 2013, 10:15:48 AM »
I added a few Amex additional cardholders over the phone with a telephone rep, and provided birthdates for them (but not SS#s). Since then, I've been receiving a steady stream of emails and letters in the mail from Amex, notifying me that I need to provide them with the missing SS#s for the additional cardholders in my account.

If I don't provide Amex with this information (and I don't see any reason why I should), is there any additional action that I should expect from Amex, other than this continuing stream of annoying emails and letters? Will they ever stop asking me for this information? Is there anything else that they will do when they realize they're not getting any response?

Why does Amex even insist on this information, if I'm on the hook for my additional cardholders' charges anyway? Are they simply being opportunistic? I would think that they would have a pretty weak claim (for unpaid charges) against an additional cardholder anyway, considering that the additional cardholder never applied for the card, or explicity agreed to any terms.

With all due respect, someone who has been here for more than 2 years and with [more than 200] posts should know to search first.

Many people have gotten the notice; many ppl have ignored the notice; nothing has happened TTBOMK.

@AJK,
So you suggest I just ignore the notices and continue to use the additioal card/account? I dont want to cause a FR. For next time, should I just give my spouses SS#? Does it cause a hard pull? If so, I'd rather use the credit pull for a 3BM for my spouse?
Any advice will be appreciated!

I know I'm not AJK, but making someone an AU doesn't cause a hard pull on their CR.

I think they also link all the accounts with the same SS# in their system.
