Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

I'm getting $20 off my cellphone bill this month thanks to Amex. Do the savings go to me or do I split it between all the lines on my plan?
First things first. Is it ethical to split the lines?
I just found a new supply of forks!

I have almost 20 lines on 2 accounts, all family, and I'm trying to squeeze everyone's Amex cards with the offers in. Whoever has the cards keeps the Amex bonus they receive. We have something like 8 cards with the offer, don't know if I'll be able to do them all without prepaying a bunch.

ETA: Which is to say I guess that I think it's ethically fine for the cardholder to keep the bonus and not split it among the lines.

IMHO I wlould think that depends on the way you set it up. If you bill them every month based on their usage (even if its the same every month) then I would think you can keep it. If you all agree to split the bill every month bet X amount of people the the savings shld be split as well.
It's obviously the former (if someone goes over their limits one month they pay for it themselves, we don't split it between all of us).

The way I see it is that this discount is not from Sprint it's a side benefit I'm getting from Amex. These guys aren't splitting my AF with me so the benefits belong to me...

First things first. Is it ethical to split the lines?
Why not? They are all immediate family members. Does Sprint have something against my siblings reimbursing me for their phone lines?

I've got a similar questing: I just spent an hour chatting with sprint and finally convinced them to make a 150 credit adjustment to my f family account. Who keeps the saved money ?

What was the credit for? If it was an issue affecting the whole family plan I would say it gets split (with you maybe taking a cut for spending the hour to get the credit) If it was only something about you then why would you have to split it?

I would say you keep 50 for the pone call and maybe split the rest.

It wasn't an issue affecting anyone. What happened was, I switched to t mobile last month and was waiting to be billed the etf from Sprint. When I didn't see it in last month's bill I chatted with a rep who told me I won't be getting charged an etf. This made no sense so I asked her to double check and she reassured me. I made sure to get a Transcriot of the chat
On Friday i got this month's bill with the etfs. Chatted with rep and they says even though I have it in writing it was clearly a mistake and i will still be charged the etf. So i requested that they at least wave the taxes and surcharges and the gave me a 150 credit ( equal to the taxes and surcharges).

I would say you keep 50 for the pone call and maybe split the rest.
Even in consideration of above.

so if I get this correctly then you were charged an etf for your line which I assume you are paying yourself. By chatting with them you got them to waive a portion of it. If so it is solely in your share and it should come off of the etf you are paying. If the etf was also everyone's then it is different.

No we all switched to T-Mobile and were all charged an ETF. So the credit was coming off of everyone's final charge.

so then it was an issue affecting all of you. In that case it should be split but you have a right to be compensated for your time as the others wrote.

Would a fourth person have taken the spot if only one would have come?

Then 3 imho.
I'm leaning that way bc the costs dont change based on the amount of ppl. The cuts are begging split so everyone equally shares responsibility. If you split 4 ways one "account"ours paying twice the amount...

+1 hence my previous question. If another would have taken that seat, then it would make sense to split by 4
