Topic Wiki

This thread is to discuss whether people feel that something is unethical, not to find out what the law*/T&C says.

Any Halachic questions should be posted here.

*According to CountValentine this includes religion, but unfortunately for him, the general consensus is that religion will always be entwined in this thread.

*Hint* If you have to ask, It's most likely not ethical.

I'm leaning that way bc the costs dont change based on the amount of ppl. The cuts are begging split so everyone equally shares responsibility. If you split 4 ways one "account"ours paying twice the amount...
Why is a couple considered one "account".

What if they don't share bank accounts?

In a figurative sense?

Yes,  But my point is that it seems irrelevant that they share expenses. Imho, that should come into consideration in instances where the thing being paid for is equally for both of them. like when purchasing a gift and splitting the expense I woukd say to consider a couple as one "account".
But in this case they both benefited from the ride.

If the 2nd half of the couple didn't come there would have been 3 people n the car.  But if instead 2 other people would have come, there would have been 5 people in the car.  Both of these are irrelevant statements.
4 people shared a ride.  4 people share the expense.

Yup. I don't get the Havah Aminah to split it 3 ways. As someone mentioned, if they would decide to fly the airline won't give them a discount because they are one "account".

I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

I hear this side but on the other hand the people who had went separately but are traveling together to make it more cost effective therefore there are three cars merging together... And i think the airline example is silly by definition thats how their whole model of pricing works... Here we are taking about friends or family traveling together no-ones trying to profit off the other they're just trying to figure out what the fairest way to split is

I don't think that changes anything. So if I was planning on driving somewhere with my friend and then we found a 3rd guy to join us, me and my friend should pay 1 because we were only planning on using 1 car to begin with? The fact is there are 4 people sharing so the costs should split 4 ways.

FTR I have no clue why this is an ethical question...

If you and your friend were planning on splitting the expense then it's not comparable.

ANd if 2 of them had a regular carpool? I really don't see why it should be 3 ways.

The guy in mac's (Canadian 7-11) always punches my whole free slurpee card (supposed to be but 6, get one free).
What say you?

I don't get the card deal, but if he's giving you a free Slurpee, he's cheating his employer, isn't he?
Are  you allowed to receive 'stolen goods'?

Going back to the carpool shailah. Three families carpool their kids to/from school. two families have 1 child, and one family has two children in school. Does the family with two children have to carpool an extra time, since they have two children in the carpool?

BTW, in the original shailah, I think the couple pays double.
