Washing Machine Recommendations

My only recommendation is go with a top loader and not a front loader.

I have frigidaire glgt1031fs5 washer and dryer stacked, and I'm very happy with it.
They don't seem to have that exact model anymore but there are other versions of it now.

I have a newer front loader and I am very very happy with it. I did splurge on it though (2 years ago when appliances were cheap).

I've heard that if you leave the door open and take the detergent drawer out when the machine is not running then there's airflow through the machine and it doesn't get moldy or smelly.

No personal experience though as I have a top loader.

What they don't tell you is about the spider arm on the back of the drum. It is caked with soap scum and it can't be cleaned.
If you get gray grease marks on your clothes out of the blue and can't figure it out, I can. :)
It is this soap scum that has been building up for months/years on the spider arm and pieces break loose.

True, I keep the door open after a load for that reason. So far hasn't had to be cleaned yet.

Replaced our expensive LG with a top loader and wife loves it. She can wash comforters (had to bring to laundromat with front loader) in it and the whole comforter is submerged in water.

To clarify, I have cleaned it in the past, it just didn't get to that point where it was smelly and had to be cleaned for that reason.

Basic ones are not much more expensive, and are built to last.
