For every non-religious Jew putting their life on the line every day to defeat the terrorist Hamas can they be proud Jews?
Should we thank them for their service to their country and be proud of them?
@EliJelly

Of course. Some actions makes you a proud Jew and some doesn't. Saving Jews does, perverted actions does not. It's not up to the bullying crowd you resist which determines whether one's actions is a kiddush hashem or the opposite. Making a kiddush hashem makes you a proud Jew, doing the exact opposite while showing no cowardice makes you a proud Israeli/sabra.

And what does a proud Israeli make you?

I will concede this point: had the Israeli singer been not Jewish, I believe the hate would have been the same, and I think our pride in them standing up in the face of that hate would have been the same. The pride we have is not in her Jewishness, per se. It's in her standing up to hate against Jews.

I do
Actually, it might bring about pride to the State of Israel, while still causing pain to the Jewish people.
He never mentioned Jewish people.

I know that you know exactly what the reference was.  ::)

I do.
Menachem Begin walking to Winston Churchill’s funeral on Shabbos is “Jewish pride”!

Dan did.
My question wasn't about what Dan said. It was about what Bibi said. So do you disagree with this:
“You have brought immense pride to the state of Israel and the people of Israel. Congratulations.”

Anyone disagree with this statement by Bibi?
“You have brought immense pride to the state of Israel and the people of Israel. Congratulations.”

The issue is with the meaning of "the people of Israel".

To most here that would be synonymous with "the Jewish Nation". To Bibi (and many other Zionists) it would mean "the people of the state of Israel".

The only reason I think one might disagree with the latter would be if they thought it would bring more pride if she refused to change the lyrics.

Many might disagree with the former.

You can file that expression as one that means different things to different people.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Straight answer, thank you.

One might question his Jewishness for that.  ;)

This discussion has nothing to do about changing the lyrics.

You say that, and we all get a chuckle out of it. I say it and I get labeled an antisemite.

As is common with many words/phrases with drastically different meanings to different people.

The other alternative is that people might think you are Jewish. ;)
