Tried to get a first card for wife.  They told me they don't do first cards.

Has anyone had success on that?

Sure! Not me personally but I know a few people.
Just open an account with them checking & or savings (preferably both) and apply.
Ps some claim you should have @ least 10k in your account.

That's what I did when all else failed besides when you build up enough credit with and you are ready to start the fun it won't really matter anymore

You could've probably done the same with a secure card from a bank that actually only pulls your credit from one credit agency, and not from all three like CO.

It's tough to get approved if you don't have credit to move.
How long do you have your amex for? After 60 days from opening, you can request a 3X CLI without a pull. Run a search. If you don't get more credit from Chase by then, at least they'll see that you have 7.5K on your AMEX.
what does this mean and whats my best option

Usually at least 1 would be approved. Do you have/ever had any other chase cards ? How new is your credit history ?

Thanks - was just wondering if it was worth calling to check with them and push for it (I have other cards with them and a good history with them, credit score, etc) or simply hand tight for the process to declare itself...

My personal opinion absolutely hang tight just wait it out.
The few days don't make a difference once u get the letter you know better what ur dealing with.
Though I would call to hear the recording to make sure that all 3 apps went thru.

Yeah - i think that was the issue...it's been a bit over three months...probably pushed my luck reading the forums and seeing that within 6 months it gets tricky...
