"In the meantime, rumors have been swirling on social media pages as loyalty program members report what they have been told by the hotels’ call center staffs, with one saying he was told Marriott would look to adopt the SPG program as its own."  From this article http://m.stamfordadvocate.com/business/article/Hotel-loyalty-members-staffers-gain-few-details-6652212.php
But then again, it's only rumors..
We can dream can't we?

Spoke to a manager at the W Times Square who told me that from what he heard, the plan was to separate the SPG and Marriott loyalty programs

They are probably still tossing ideas back and forth. I doubt they even have a final answer yet...

How is Ritz seperate? It's the same lame points with Tiers rather than categories.

I hope spg doesn't try to sneak a massive devaluation on their points come Feb when they re-categorize all their hotels.
This way, they will bring their points closer in value to Marriott.
I hope they stay above that.

Even if yes, do they usually give a heads up with some leadtime?

Yes. I was just trying a bring up a sneaky way, for Spg to devalue, and bring their points closer in line to Marriott's value. This way, if they transfer 1:1, it wont be so atrocious, since Spg already devalued their own points prior to that.
Hope it doesn't come to that.

HNN: The fate of SPG has created significant buzz among guests and owners. Can you share your priorities for SPG as you work through the planned merger?

Mangas: (New CEO of Starwood, in Dec 15 interview) "The SPG member base has been very vocal in the blogosphere and other platforms on how much they value SPG and how great a program it is for them. As I meet with investors … I’m making sure we’re preserving the very best elements and value that our SPG loyalists value. It’s a critical step for the new company to incorporate.”

I have a small chunk of Starwood that I was saving for a rainy day. Any thoughts if I should book something now for the summer or hold onto them and hope for the best?
