Author Topic: Swiss Changes Check-In Baggage Policy (Read 3275 times)

BT reports that from today Swiss will be changing their check-in baggage policy from weight concept to piece concept.
From now on Economy passengers are allowed 1 piece up to 23kg, business passengers, 2x32kg and first class passengers, 3x32kg.

Nice to see an airline adding instead of subtracting (ahem, CO)...

Only on tickets issued from today, if your ticket was issued before 08/01 the old rules apply

as it says clearly for tickets issued after 08/01 i doubt it. You want to risk it and pay for it?

Weight concept (rhetorically) allows you to take as many bags as you want as long as its combined total is under the weight limit.
Piece concept only allows you to take a limited number of bags of a certain weight.
The advantage is the piece concept allows more weight.

Yes, since you bought before august, you can check in 10 suitcases, as long as the combined weight is less then 30 kg.

I am flying tlv-zrh in business, if i would have booked in july i would have been allowed 30 kg, i booked 08/01 and can take 64 kg, big differnce

Anyone know what the baggage allowance is on LX or LH in Y with no status? The site says only 1 piece of baggage but somehow I remember that to TLV its allowed 2 cases of 50lb.

No, I actually remember very well!
I just spoke to SWISS in TLV they told me that its changed from 1st August, tickets booked before that will still be allowed 2 cases.
Its a shame because they were from the only airline with a stop, that still allowed 2 cases untill now.

Previously, the restriction was based on weight concept. Meaning it didn't matter how many bags you had, as long as it stayed under the weight restriction.
And I don't think it was 100 pounds...

It sure was 2 X 50 pounds, I and many people I know flew many times with them and all took this amount. They confirmed it to me on the phone too today.
