« on: December 01, 2023, 02:04:27 PM »
i just cancelled an american flight and see they are now giving trip credits which can be used for anyone instead of travel credits

We’re making it easier to redeem your unused travel credit for when you’re ready to travel again. Previously when your travel plans changed, we issued a Flight Credit for the value of your unused trip. Now, we’re converting your Flight Credit to a Trip Credit so you have more flexibility to pay for future travel. Here’s the benefits of your new Trip Credit:

Been like this for years when booking directly with AA.
When booking with OTA’s they issue credits for the passenger only.

incorrect only the difference in price if you changed to a lower fare was a trip credit, the rest was a travel credit only to be used by the passenger

The past few times I’ve used AA trip credits, I noticed that it actually lowers the flight price (a few weeks ago it lowered a $89 flight to $72, today I got a $865 flight down to $815). I’m assuming it’s a glitch but was wondering if anyone else has a similar experience and/or gets the science behind it?

Makes sense (like the Amazon promotional credits which eliminate sales tax).
Maybe it can be worth initially making a booking and canceling, to generate the lower price using the trip credit.
No DDMS post please.

I found a very easy way to combine multiple credits: when making a booking, you can add as many credits as you want, even above the ticket price, and AA will send a new credit with the total amount left after booking.
