Title: Stranded on the road
Post by: elikay on October 13, 2019, 06:15:04 AM
I am on my way to Detroit for Yom Tov, and we hit a deer near Dubois PA. Van is totalled, we are now stranded at a hotel in the area. To further complicate things, I misplaced my license so even if I were to find a rental (on a Sunday..)  I could not rent... any ideas welcome! I am here with 2 adults and 5 children!

What's wrong with the two other adults licenses to get you a car?

bh everyone seems ok from your post, yes quite scary on the roads, especially now that it's deer season.
There's such a thing called deer whistles, heard people talk about it before and activates if you driving 30 miles per hour or more.
Wouldn't have a clue if it works or not because it's not heard with the human ear.

Deer whistles were popular close to 30 years ago

I see I did not write so clearly we are 2 adults, and neither has a license. Regardles, the closest rental place is 95 miles away!

In the end, a volunteer from Cleveland Chaveirim drove out approximately 3 hours to pick us up. And a relative met us at the exit to the 480 and drove us to Detroit. We arrived 4:30 PM Erev YomTov! Now I need to figure out how I get back... Any advice on one way rentals? I do have Hertz gold so may be able to avoid issues of not having license to display.

I'm not so sure about not needing to show licence on exit YMMV. If someone else rents under a corporate code you may be legally allowed to drive if you are also part of the association or Corp even if your not listed as an AU.

National Free days work on one ways. With National youl be able to pick any car from the aisle and hopefully they'll have something you can grab that can fit your whole chevra. Ask around Dtw about the by code as well it's supposed to be good there.

Like mentioned, the airport will require a license to leave the lot.

Best option it to have someone else rent and you'll drive or possibly another ID will work for you to rent i.e. passport etc

Have some else rent and add y ok u as additional.

National free day as 1 way should be a good start.
