Title: Proposal Ideas & Props - Master Thread!
Post by: myi on December 04, 2019, 05:50:29 PM
Don't think there's such a thread!

To start, there's a freind asking where he can get props like a red carpet, table and chairs?
As well where can he find a decent place in Brooklyn/Manhattan to propose, told him to go outdoors but he said everything would fly away being that it's windy and cold, any indoor ideas to recommend to him now in the winter?
  Thanks guys!

Or is there Gemachs for such props?

But here's a dating discussion thread..

You can do something simple. mms.com (http://mms.com). Her favorite colors. Some people don't like extravagant proposals.

Wow you must be really old! Phone booths?

Just go to a cemetery.
They say that's the reason why you have a bucket, ice, flowers, candles, white sheets(tablecloths)...
They say more like a yartziet , a person kicks the bucket, have ice to store the body, candles for the nishama, flowers and wrapped in a white sheet!
But yeh no need to scare the living daylights out of someone when a person is getting engaged! So wouldn't recommend a cemetery!

Cute idea, but don't think they eat C"S, but the idea is amazing.

What type of places do people propose at in the winter/bad weather?

This is actually pretty great. G-d willing, you are going to propose once. This way, if you have a great idea, it will be used more than once.

Made a music video. The only other props I needed were a sign and some balloons for when she finished watching.

I was involved in the creation of a song (for a friend) for use as a proposal prop. I cringe listening to it 10+ years later.

Didn't make my own song. At the risk of partially exposing myself, I used Train's Marry Me.

i would cringe two days later.  making a song expressing your love for someone you barely know must be very cheesy no matter how you slice it ;D ;D ;D

When discussing proposals, these words come to mind, from BMG mashgiach Rav Yehuda Jacobs zt"l (https://matzav.com/rav-yehuda-jacobs-ztl/):

Quote
A proposal is a serious thing, with lifelong ramifications. The person you marry will be with you for the rest of your life. They will be the one raising your children, and your children will in turn raise their children. A proposal is not the time to fool around.

A proposal is way too serious to be accompanied by childs-play. Playing around will also raise the risk of the proposal being misunderstood, which can have drastic consequences.

Marriage is a very serious thing. Regarding marriage lightly is akin to playing around when you are trying to drive a car. The result can be tragic.
