Title: AA million miler lifetime gold
Post by: Lotofsimcha on June 17, 2010, 10:03:26 PM
I am hammering this *wood to AA milaege transfer and wanted to know if it's worth shooting for 2 million lifetime vs 1 million lifetime miles. The only thing I have seen mentioned over and over is that you will receive 4 more system wide upgrades. Can anyone tell me any other differences between the lifetime gold 1 million miler benefits and the lifetime platinum 2 million miler benefits. Also do you think it's worth it to stop at 1 million or go for 2 million ?

it all depends if you plan to actually be flying on AA or a OW partner

I made 2M many yrs ago and not far off from 3M (which isnt anything different from 2M) I hardly fly AA except if no choice or cashing in some Miles during off-peak times

My Main benefits are no bag fees, Elite access thru TSA, and early boarding to get some bin space, exit rows for $0, and Lounge access which with having to pay for anyting in it is no Big Deal (no free interent or drinks no real food to speak of either)

personally I value my SPG pts and want to use them for Hotel nights or C&P

The best deal with AA is EXP but that requires 100k actual miles a yr, other then that level I dont see anything great about AA. So much so I went to CO instead and last yr switched to UA and sorry I didnt go to UA yrs ago

So if you wont be doing alot of flying , or not alot on AA why bother

Stave thanks for your thoughts bro that helps a lot.

Dan thank you for laying that out so clearly.

I guess if I will have 2 million aa miles I may as well fly aa.

Another benefit is you can try to status match to another airline

As far as the system wide upgrades with an international account is that something that you can just change the address on the account for ? Also do the benefits listed above apply to milaege flights as well or only paid flights? Thanks so much for all of your help.

Yes you can "israel" worked fine!! no upgrades on mileage tickets and obviously no mileage bonus! But the other benefits apply!

will they upgrade you for free if there's extra room in first class?
Title: Re: AA million miler lifetime gold
Post by: Traveler on June 21, 2010, 01:21:04 PM
Not unless they are oversold in coach! It stinks every other airline will do it for free! I guess since they give out lifetime platinum they cant give out free upgrades.

so what does does it mean when it says "upgrades clear 24 hours out"
Title: Re: AA million miler lifetime gold
Post by: Traveler on June 21, 2010, 01:30:12 PM
It means if you "buy" a ticket then they will start thinking about upgrading you then. Until then only they will try to sell your seat first. But they always ave seats for revenue so there is still no guarrantee

It's been mentioned a number of times that if you have a million up to date miles in AA you get a permanent gold status. What exactly does that mean? After explaining what you get from a permanent gold status, will it continue if your current mileage balance goes down to zero?

One more thing. If I have 850000 lifetime miles and my wife had 150000, can they be combined to hit the million mark?
Title: Re: AA million miler lifetime gold
Post by: Mutty on October 28, 2010, 11:39:07 AM
All right, maybe one more. How about using SPG miles to get to the million? Basically, is the year to date mileage the one you need - which includes flights and other methods of obtaining miles?
Title: Re: AA million miler lifetime gold

Anything you add to AA miles, gets counted.

If you already hold at 850k, leave your wife out of it.

I read in a number of these forums that the 1 million miles gold status comes with any miles you earn. I just got off the phone with AA and the person I spoke with said it's only FLIGHT miles. Now I'm confused. When I go to my account it says Program To Date Miles something like 835000. So I'm almost at the million. But my phone call just busted my bubble. Anywhere in the aa site to look to verify what you've all been saying?

What's a better upgrade coupon? So do you mean that before you hit 1 million you should change your address to a foreign one? After you get it you change your address back again? Another question. If I use mileage on AA to get a trip to Israel on ElAl and I have the lifetime gold, do I get benefits being the gold member or is only on AA flights?

since ElAl is NOT a Partner Member of OW, any Elite Status with AA is good for nothing if/when flying on ElAl. That is if you are flying in coach, Biz will get you whatever ElAl gives to its Biz passengers

the AA SWUs are ONLY good on a flight Operated by AA = any codeshare flight they can not be used = no way to use them to fly to/from TLV unless you fly ElAl to/from TLV and wherever AA flys to in Europe, then the AA flight Only if you purchase an expensive enough Coach tkt can may be UPed. I think the closest city would be Rome. So that would mean a 4 hour flight on LY in coach

Being Gold will throw a couple of benefits to you when flying on a OW Carrier but nothing much, eg for lounge access you need to be Plat or 2MM level

is there a fee to transfer DC to AA

OK. I got an email from AA that because I have the million lifetime miles I now reached gold status. Some questions. First, what are the great benefits? I looked at the list. Didn't seem that great. Also, does my wife get the same benefits like better checkin (I think thyat was one of them), free luggage, etc. when she's with me? Also, I remember something about using a foreign address. What was that good for. And am I out of luck because they said they're already sending me a package?
So what are all the great things, understanding that I don't travel more than once or twice a year.
I did get the 75000 extra miles for each of 4 credit cards (thank you again, Dan!) and we"re IYH going to Israel in the summer business class on ElAl. But then again, I don't suppose using mileage on another airline gives you anything for being AA Gold status?
Can anyone help me out here?

It seems that the now its more then just speculation, change is coming, to What extent is still unknown?

To transfer that many points would really depend on if you would use that many and how much gold status is worth to you.
Personally, I would at least wait to see if there will be a Starwood-AA promo.

If JonNYC says it's happening, it's happening.  Transfer those points now if you want the status but beware that AA can make the change any day and disqualify the points transferred from MM status.
Or the points may retroactively post with a date before the cutoff and you'll be safe.

YMMV!

Just transferred 60K SPG to my wife's AA account to get her to MM.  Couldn't hold out any longer.
Hopefully it posts before any changes.

Just watch AA not make any changes and then launch an incredible SPG transfer option on 05/05...

Another question that I liked;
Q: Is there any plans to allow Aadvantage members to see/book partner awards online?

A: I’m really glad we got this question. This is a priority for us and one that we’re working on now. I don’t want to get into “how the sausage is made,” but it is my hope to have this available by the end of the year.

Longtime FT'er, was banned from FT and started his own site.
It's interesting that you say that JonNYC was banned from FT and started his own site (namely Milepoint.com, correct me if I'm wrong), since Randy Petersen seems to be the founder of FT (see here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/members/randy-petersen.html ) as well as the moderator in the recent chat with Maya Leibman for Milepoint... Am I missing something here?
Also another curious thing is that this moderator Randy Petersen called the site milepost several times as opposed to its real name milepoint...

Milepoint is Randy's new site.
FT is what Randy founded but sold and subsequently got in a lawsuit with.
Travelingbetter is Jon's site.
You now stand corrected.

i am not happy to read that things are changing!!
i just got hooked on dans deals and i was starting to get to work on a million miles.
after signing up for the cc for 100,000 points (and receiving it) i now have 380,000 lifetime points.
i fly about 2-3 times a year. how can i rack up miles to at least get close to a million miles???
i signed up for all the bonuses over the past few weeks so maybe ill have another 2 thousand total.
if i open a bank direct i can get some miles but i dont really have money to leave hanging in there

also does a business advantage account help get personal miles or only for the business?

Business credit card, the miles go into your personal account.
Also re-apply to all three cards again if it's been 60 days since the last application.
Good luck.

Via TB (http://www.travelingbetter.com/forums/showpost.php?p=34483):
Quote from: JonNYC
Currently, AAdvantage members are recognized and rewarded each time they earn a million total program-to-date miles. This Million Miler program is not a published benefit, and members only hear of it by word of mouth or when they first cross the million mile threshold.

Changes are expected around Summer 2011 to limit MM accrual -- not everything will count as it does today. At that time the program will be publicized and members can keep up with their MM totals online at AA.com. Until the public is notified of upcoming changes, please do not initiate discussion about the program with members.

...

Million Miler status updates are made nightly.Member Mileage Information reflects:

Million Miler Level
Date Achieved
Miles needed for Next Level
Total Million Miler Miles
Miles Earned Prior to August 1, 2011
Miles Earned Since August 1, 2011
Until the new MM program is launched, the same value should be displayed in Program To Date Miles, Total Million Miler Miles and Miles Earned Prior to August 1, 2011. There will be occasional discrepancies, however. The PTD Total is always the most accurate.

Note: The August 1, 2011 date is a place-holder only.
Do -not- quote this date to members as it is probably -not- the cutover date for the new program. Once the actual date is set; members will be given approximately 2 months' notice. Until the notification period begins, avoid discussion about the current or future MM program.

just curious what the pros thought on this.

do you think its wise to transfer 250k spg points into aa for lifetime gold. the truth is i dont fly alot now maybe once or twice a yr but then again im 25 and many more years ahead of me iy''h and to lock in lifetime gold sounds tempting.

what do you think?

SPG won't transfer to AA with a name mismatch, so even those will be at a huge premium I'd imagine.

Wouldn't an address change, 30 day wait, and then transfer work?

They are 1:1.  There was a 25% bonus last fall for AA transfers.

Very few people have a diners card, so there's not much of a market for them.
I do love their retention bonuses though!

How long would you suggest waiting after hitting 1MM before changing it back and making the call?

A mileage run is a trip designed and taken solely to gain maximum frequent flyer miles, points or status. If a traveler has already achieved some sort of elite status they will be earning bonus miles on top of their actual flight miles, and consequently they will reach their goal sooner. A mileage run may allow a traveler to (re-)qualify for a beneficial elite level which requires a minimum number of miles for qualification.

You can check out the FT forum dedicated to mileage runs and keep an eye open for runs on AA that are depart from your city.

We are announcing a new AAdvantage® Million MilerSM program which recognizes and rewards AAdvantage members when Million Miler thresholds are reached. Starting December 1, 2011, AAdvantage base miles earned by flying on American Airlines, American Eagle® or the AmericanConnection® carrier or any eligible AAdvantage program participating airline will count towards Million Miler status. Also, as a limited time offer, one AAdvantage mile for every dollar spent on eligible purchases using the new Citi ExecutiveSM / AAdvantage® World EliteTM MasterCard® credit card that post to billing statements through December 2012 will count toward Million Miler status*. The Citi ExecutiveSM / AAdvantage® World EliteTM MasterCard® credit card account must be open and in good standing by December 1, 2011.

As you know, you are vested with lifetime AAdvantage Platinum® status, regardless of your annual elite-qualifying activity. We will continue to provide you with four (4) one-way systemwide upgrades each time you cross another Million Miler threshold.

All of your Program to Date AAdvantage miles earned so far as well as any AAdvantage miles posted between now and November 30, 2011, will count toward the new Million Miler program. On December 1, 2011, you will be able to view the details of your Million Miler activity in your AAdvantage account on AA.com separately from your AAdvantage award miles, so you can track your progress toward reaching this special designation.

For frequently asked questions, visit AA.com/MillionMiler. We thank you for your loyalty and look forward to seeing you on board soon.

Sincerely,

Maya Leibman

Just got that e-mail as well. Looks like the changes are happening as expected. I did not notice any mention of signup bonus points. Will they count signup bonus points??

Scratch that... looks like they won't count

Looks like CC charges on "Citi ExecutiveSM / AAdvantage® World Elite™ MasterCard" count until Dec 2012...

Timing couldn't be worse... I was just going to get started on really concentrating on maximizing AA miles, with the hopes of getting lifetime something.

I currently have 234,031 program-to-date miles. It should be 300,000 by the end of the year. I do all my spending on SPG Amex now, and have 232,587 SPG points. That will break 240,000 after this month's credit card statement, so I theoretically could do three SPG->AA transfers of 79,999 points each, for a total of 284,997 AA miles. Add that to my 300,000 and I'll have under 600,000. Even if I get the aforementioned Citi CC and switch all my spending from SPG Amex to that through Dec 2012, I probably won't break 700,000. And did I mention that I rack up BIS miles verrrrrry infrequently?

So since I'll still be 300,000 short of lifetime gold, and starting Jan 2013, the only way for me to make up that 300,000 would be BIS miles, I don't think it's worth it for me at all. I might as well keep hoarding the SPG points so that I have the option of transferring them to whatever airline I need to for a particular trip.

:( I really wanted AA status. Oh well.

I don't see any large-number-of-miles promotions on the Citi Executive World Elite CC... maybe I'm missing something?

If the BIS is verrrry infrequent, what do you need the status for?

Btw, better to do SPG transfers in segments of 20k. That way you get the 5k bonus on every 20k.
In the same vain, (generally) spending on SPG and transferring to AA will come out better then just using the AA card.

Because BIS revenue tickets are infrequent, but BIS reward tickets may not be.

This is not all doom and gloom. Any points earned prior to December 1st will count forever towards 1 million. So, if you have 600k now, and at some point in the future earn 400k from flying, you'll have your million. Depending on your situation, may still be worth trying to gather as many as you can before the deadline.

what signup bonus do they have for the Citi ExecutiveSM / AAdvantage® World Elite™ MasterCard® credit card
is there a yearly fee?

i went from 350,000 to 500,000 in the last 6 months, i guess i will have to wait for a few more years of flying b4 i get the mm status

if i am gold for a yr does the bonus miles i get for flying count towards the million miles?

Except that for 2012, transferring miles from SPG won't count toward MM, but spending on that Citi card will...

I changed my address to an Israeli address in-order to get the 4 international upgrades. Do they come in the mail? If I later change back to an American address do the 8 domestic upgrades come in the mail?

I have a friend that has 1.8 million lifetime AA miles and wants to get to 2 million before AA stops counting all mileage earned towards lifetime status... which If I recall correctly is in a few days from now .. he does have 850k MR points which I know can somehow or someway be transferred through various programs, and end up getting him the 200k into AA that he needs... what would be the best way to go about this?? Thanks in advance!
P.s. he does not have an SPG acct right now, but I'm guessing he can set one up pretty quickly
