Title: Bangkok, Koh Samui, Singapore and Maldives TR
Post by: israshot on February 08, 2020, 11:26:32 PM
This is my first trip report and Iím excited to share it.

I will review many details of my trip but particularly I will detail prices and deals I got throughout the trip.

I first booked the Waldorf Astoria Maldives on February 15th, 2019 when  I read  (https://www.travelandleisure.com/hotels-resorts/hotel-openings/waldorf-astoria-maldives-ithaafushi-opening) that they will be opening. The Maldives was a destination my wife wanted to go since we got married 3 years ago but was mostly a far dream. We like brand new hotels and we learned about the WA opening it was like a sign that now itís the time to go there.
It was about a year in advance of the booking and was mostly a theoretical booking that we didnít know the chances of it happening. At that time our daughter was only 7 months old and we didnít know what to expect when she will be 18 months. We already traveled with her to France, The Bahamas, and Cayman Island and everything went smoothly with her. One thing was sure, weíll take her with us all the time in our vacation, that the education we got ourselves and we just love being with her on vacation seeing her happy face all the time.

We then decided to go ahead with it and to add the Conrad Koh Samui to the trip, I talked to my wife a few months before about this hotel on a cliff with private pool in each villa and it was definitely in our bucket list. It did take time though to convince her to go to Asia as it will be our first time and my wife had some phobia, but then she fell in love with it. We weren't sure if we go before or after the Maldives and we finally booked 5 nights before arriving in the Maldives.
At that time we didnít have tickets and we knew that we can cancel or modify it at any time.

A few months later I booked the tickets. I knew I will book with Amex points transferred to AC because of the 20% bonus at that time and their cheap rate for lap infant.

Flights booking:
I transferred 255K Amex to AC with the 20% to get 305K and I booked the following:
JFK-ZRH-BKK in J with Swiss, for 77.5AC ◊2 +62.40 CAD taxes (+100+2.10 CAD for lap infant)
BKK-USM in Y with PG, rev ticket for $91◊2 (+$40 for lap infant)
USM-SIN in Y with SilkAir rev ticket for $353 for both adults and lap infant (there wasnít availability in points).
SIN-MLE in Y with SQ, 9065 SQ miles ◊2 + $74 in taxes (+$58 lap infant) (I booked it previously for 18K SQ each but in late January  they came up  (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=112927.msg2185033#msg2185033) with the 51% off for February 2020 redemption booking and my flight was still available so I cancel the previous one and rebooked for 9065 SQ each,  I was later  (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=112927.msg2196853#msg2196853) refunded on the cancellation fee). I called them to attach my USM-SIN ticket with the SIN-MLE ticket to check baggage through.
MLE-SIN-TPE-JFK in J with SQ & BR (-last leg), for 75K AC ◊2 (+100+55.70 CAD for lap infant)

Hotels booking:
Marriott FNC (35K) for the St Regis Bangkok 1 night
380K HHonors for 4+1 nights at the Conrad Koh Samui (When I booked it I was short of 5K points on my account at that time and the representative added them for free to my account before making the booking)
240K HHonors + 1 Weekend night certificate for 3 nights at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives

After booking the hotels and flights, I began to read a lot about the Conrad USM and the WAI on FT. I read all the pages of these 2 hotels for a month and I knew exactly which villa I will take and what to expect pretty much. I can say that I enjoyed reading every page there and it helped me a lot also for a deal I got in one of them that I will share later on.

The day in Bangkok was mostly to catch up some jet lag and rest before heading to Koh Samui. In Singapore, we just had a few hours to go visit around between our flights. 2 weeks before our flights, my younger brother went on Shlichus for a year in Singapore so we had another reason to be there.

Iím now already back from the trip and Iíll begin to go over the trip in detail.

Flight from JFK to Zurich and Bangkok with 7 hours layover, January 25th-27th:

Our flight from JFK was scheduled for 9:10 pm on Saturday night (LX 15). We live in Crown Heights with 2 cars and we didn't want to ask from family members to keep moving our cars for alternate side parking. I made 2 round trips to the Ohel in Queens the previous Thursday and Friday to bring the 2 cars and park them there and ask also a blessing from the Rebbe for a safe trip. We could've gone on Saturday night first to the Ohel with the 2 cars and then to the airport but then it would've been too stressful and we'll have to rush after shabbos.

All our luggage were ready before shabbos. After shabbos, we quickly made Havdola, showered and packed the last items including YO Yogurts for my daughter from the fridge. All other food items were dry items.
We took an Uber to the airport and arrive around 7 pm at JFK. They quickly printed our boarding passes, took our luggage and we went to the TSA pre line that was emptier than the priority line. I don't have myself TSA but always make sure to put my daughter under my ticket and I usually get it automatically.
The Swiss lounge was under renovation so they told us to go to the Etihad lounge instead.

We ordered 2 Mojito but I drank most of both
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/9qEuTZBjYT6vNt90C-Xg_bu_mgsjmD8MUd5OxK3gykH5eNT5tsVXtA-rBlLvUtKuMf1gtHfaRX1CqVz2ixcEJY_SzSPNQ1w0OvlJK1l9G0B3JPDHtuGWdKTWyrxzcKi2-fy9iFbymPc=w2400)

We saw already a few Chasidishe Yidden in the lounge so we knew that there will be Yidden in the business cabin.
I reserved in advance the bulkhead seats 6 D-G and at my right (6K, maybe you read this ) it was a yid. (the best seats on the A333 and B777 are 4 & 5 as they are together with First but it's reserved for Senator & HON circle members or 24 hours before departure).

We flew on the A333 which is a bit different and older than the LX B777 but overall it looks the same.
They brought us some toys for the baby (We got also in the 2nd leg so I kept 1 aircraft for myself )

We slept a good portion of the flight, my daughter slept together with my wife.

The KSML was Borenstein (VK) on this flight, the meat from the main dish was good.

Before they served breakfast pretty much everyone davened in their seat, the Europeans didn't seem to like it, but who cares.

After landing we went to buy train tickets to the city and we headed to Maadan Bakery (https://goo.gl/maps/kRDF48jDDg2iMAHJA).
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/DXEZefNxJmDoUHGVoZjSWdrJFicjDwNpfjO4939K1xTs90w_M6mK-4LNNXKn9DR5lo4Z1jm9OUcJObovmywSaZg-VQfFkJ4xSMw0UwDQ544GnL8u3uu8Hyr2EUdw49BuIlT6cMZ1_Lc=w2400)

We sat at a table and ordered a few items; 2 coffees, a smoothie, a salad, a bread, and a croissant sandwich for $43. I asked the lady there to warm up my lox croissant and she refused, then when she saw that I'm insisting she grabbed it from my hands and gave me a bad attitude. Unfortunately, I'm too used to the bad European service but this was surprisingly bad, thankfully, that was the only bad service we got during our trip.
I have a T-MOBILE family plan with unlimited 2G data and text in 210 countries so I had minimum data wherever I went. Enough to use the map and some texting.

We then went back to the train to go to Uetliberg (https://goo.gl/maps/4dNkHQjxV8idrMAT6) which has trays and nice lookouts to the whole city. We took the small tray and went to the top. Our daughter was sleeping comfortably in the yoyo and it was a sunny day. It was interesting to see many small families with children coming there for a Sunday outing. You could've seen the family values they have and how well behaved the children are, things that you observe only when you're a parent yourself.

We took some pictures and headed back to the train station that will take us to the airport.

It was still 3 hours before the flight and we went to the Business lounge E. It's a very spacious lounge with floor to ceiling glass windows on both sides of the lounge and an outdoor area that you can watch the planes.

I had some phone calls to do to my customers and the time was perfect to call NY in the morning. I went to one of the call room and had some work done.

We went then to take a shower, you need to give them the boarding passes and they give a key to one of the showers room. The shower was large and very modern. One sure thing is that it was the highlight of Swiss air for my wife.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/o8U-xPE0egar89gsBmfixIy-6EH1mp3bTgGYC3dI4_RQ8YgcRxYZaZYbsv4ApxN1VrIcDCLp3UsA18wSebNbXTtudGzme8oc7dlGmmk35HgSI2zCl_vo2XDJQTChbnEjb_d8qJ4SpR8=w2400)

We then went to our flight and had the seats 8 D-G. I selected months in advance the bulkhead seats but in September they change the flight schedule by 5 minutes and that caused the removal of my selected seats. I realized only a month before the flight what happened but it was too late. Luckily I got at JFK 2 seats with direct aisle access as the flight was full.
The B77 was more modern and seats were a bit more spacious but I could've felt the smaller legroom (I'm 6'1).
My daughter got more toys.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/jCo4Va8LpR82xOB7KFGLR3rcK7EMr5NKn5iJ6MOIEeO4S71NPTEAkkytNOZ19tgXAM9r7OQ4YHiIpEV6TVaPvYQgEj1O9TsgK9Am0pnFELhNhE8LHCieBblHhgc-0yOgZuZ3hoVclMI=w2400)

Sometimes I'm wondering if the toys were for my daughter or for me
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_fX9ge4-X0-jkgseWWDeA4rpSsmAzdUSVDFdNEcm28hAxQ9sTUfgFGzuXx6AJop8Dvouaqv5lwO39mKwPElvomo6a9uESCzJTvKqu4TYk3-zLlmdEMk4hvIMob7vAmp9PEpTryvtx9U=w2400)

The food wasn't good but I got a small Barkan wine and smoked fish that made me very happy.

We landed in Bangkok and saw that everyone was wearing a mask because of the virus...not so reassuring but there was no way I would change my trip as I spent so much time and energy to make it perfect (and I went to the Ohel also).
We cleared immigration pretty fast and took our luggage. I knew I had to withdraw cash for the taxi so I went to the nearest ATM and withdrew 1500 Baht. I used my Sofi card that I transferred money from my checking account a week before (I opened in October and made a few $100's in referrals) and they automatically refunded me the 220 Baht ATM fees I was charged. It was my first time trying Sofi for an ATM and I was very impressed by how fast they refunded it.
I opened the grab app and ordered a taxi SUV (I checked before the trip how can I pay and the only way was to top up with AliPay, that's why I needed the cash, and the app lets pay in cash at the end of the trip).
I was pretty impressed by how everything went very smoothly on a continent that we're visiting for the first time.
The taxi arrived after 5 minutes to our arrival gate, it was a nice Toyota SUV and we drove to the St Regis Bangkok. The trip cost was 619 Baht.

January 27-28 STR Bangkok.

It took us an hour to arrive at the STR Bangkok with some traffic towards the end. They quickly took all our stuff from the cab and brought us to the 12th floor where the reception is. It's really a beautiful and tall building and was happy to spend just a FNC of 35k for it.

I previously had the check-in in the app for the Met suite as a platinum member and was pretty excited about it because usually they give an upgrade to the deluxe room only. We arrived at the reception and they brought us cold towels and drinks.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/lYUv2waxyuzPAO_mT1tDx_h4eDf3vpcTkq8G2eQcLyF76dMnPfRVKFUKu7gpr7KOcGemOvTxwqh8SS27068kf9vzrezuYhoIadY1-lrCD8YUmKMvabNVptQr85TZORNgcstYSiQnMRk=w2400)

The check-in process took a bit too long and then he tells me that we got the deluxe room. I show him my app where it shows the Met suite, he makes a phone call to let me know that I can get the suite only at 3 pm but the deluxe room is ready for us now. It was only 1 pm so we just took the deluxe room, besides that the view is much nicer in the deluxe room. On my way out, the chef Dwayne Krisko (http://www.instagram.com/dwaynekrisko) comes towards me telling me that he has some salads from the Kosher restaurant for us.
I emailed the hotel a few weeks before to inquire if they can take care of the Kosher food from the Chabad restaurant with delivery and I'll pay them directly. They replied to me positively but I didn't follow up with it.
Now I felt a bit embarrassed that he went to order for me already from the menu. I told him that I really appreciate it and please send it and bill it to my room. He insisted that the hotel wants to offer it as they want to satisfy me etc. That was nice! We had a chat there, he told me that he came 2 months ago to Bangkok and he worked in many hotels around the world and also in Miami so he's a bit familiar with Kosher food.
We went to the room, showered and ordered 2 burgers and the roast beef teriyaki. I placed the order by WhatsApp (found online) and paid with a link. Total was 1120 Baht including 150 for delivery.
Our room (1704) was right on top of the pool with a nice view of the golf park.

I also ordered from JCafe some sandwiches for the next morning breakfast, and a friend from Chabad in Bangkok brought it to me since he had to pick up some American sim cards from me.
In the afternoon we went for a stroll in the nearby park (https://g.page/lumphini-park?share), it was nice and quiet and the baby was sleeping in the stroller.

We went then to the Happy hour cocktail and told them we want the Platinum menu. It's a cocktail menu to order without any price complimentary for platinum members and up. We took 2 drinks and went to sit outside with the same view from our room.

In the meantime they brought us the salad that the chef ordered for us. We ate them later, it was fresh with lots of dressings on the side.
We didn't have time to visit Bangkok and we were too tired for it. That day was just to get a break from the flights and to catch up a bit with the jet lag before going to Koh Samui. I also gave my Butler that day 8 dresses to press complimentary for platinum members and they came back the next morning.

Flight with Bangkok Airways was at 11:30 am so we left the hotel at 9 with a taxi from Grab.
My daughter threw up in the car but nothing that we couldn't handleÖ the ride was shorter than the previous day. That ride was 735 and I gave the driver extra for the incident.
We checked in our luggage, we had more than 50kg but they didn't say anything (we were allowed 20+20+10).
We went to the Blue ribbon lounge with the PP card, just to have a quiet place for ourselves (because there's nothing more than that there).
We boarded on time, the plane was full but everything goes smoothly and fast, unlike other countries. We had fruits in our 'KSML' which was funny. (Why do they serve a free meal in a short hour flight?!)

At USM we had to wait a long time for our suitcases, DW & daughter went for a troll in the small airport and I was melting in the heat.
But who doesn't like small airports?

After our suitcases came we went towards the parking and the Conrad driver waited for us with the Conrad sign.

He gave us cold towels and offered us water in the car. As I requested in the email they had a cute car seat waiting in the car, because I love when the hotel doesn't forget small details.

Before I continue with the Conrad Koh Samui I need to put a small introduction.
A few weeks before our trip I was scrolling the threads of all kinds of goodies that DDF'rs were selling on the GFST board. I saw then a thread for Aspire credit ($250 credit at any Hilton resort) selling at 50% and lower. I know that they changed recently their policy for advanced purchase rate which can be one of the factors for this low price but I was still very impressed. I figured that I can pay all the Kosher food and the activities straight from my room folio and prepay the hotel in advance with third-party Aspire credits. Many people might not be so comfortable doing so but I took the challenge, especially that the reward was very attractive. I emailed the hotel in the beginning asking them to charge 2 ◊ $250 and they asked me to fill up a form with the cardholder picture ID and the picture of the actual CC. I filled up everything and ask them to charge me the equivalent amount in Baht. I did it for 6 cards in total ($1500) and then the hotel told me that this is the maximum amount allowed from third parties cards.
I paid these credits between 40-45% each, which is a ridiculous amount for what I can get with them. Since I had the opportunity to get everything for cheaper, I figured I'll spoil my wife with a huge 2 story villa and a separate bedroom for our daughter for our stay. We didn't really need the 2 extra bedroom but mostly for the fact that the villa has a living room and a kitchen (and so much bigger). I emailed the hotel for an upgrade to the 2 bedrooms and they quoted me 10000 Baht inclusive. I asked them to upgrade us for 3 nights out of our 5 nights (I figured that they will be willing to give us the 2 remaining nights for free and it came out that I was right). I also need to mention that when I was prepaying by email, the hotel mentioned that in case of unused credit, they will not reimburse to the credit card but rather they will give me the money in cash with a 5% fee. I knew previously that the hotel was giving cash to their guest and then charging their credit card so this wasn't a surprise but rather a confirmation that it can work the way around (paying first [at 45%] then cashing out [at 95%]).
Because I and my wife signed up in November for the free Aspire credit card (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=109305.0), I realized that I can basically enjoy the upgrade and the Kosher meals, etc. at a very small cost as you'll see later. (I might take off this section if readers find it too informative so enjoy it before it's gone...).

January 28th, Koh Samui.
I choose the taxi from the hotel directly and not from (the cheaper) Mr. Samui as everyone recommends on FT because it's actually cheaper with the Aspire credits that I previously loaded to my room folio (that's it, now you know why everything is charged through the hotel directly...). The cost for the ride is 1500 Baht per way or 3000 Baht round trip from the airport to the hotel inclusive (prices in this hotel could be inclusive or before charges and taxes so I'll try to make it clear every time. Usually, when it's not inclusive, it's 10% charge + 7.7% VAT +1% city tax which basically means that you need to add 18.7% on top of the gross amount). I choose the cheapest option for the hotel ride and this was already very nice, a brand new sparkling Toyota SUV with only 6000 KM on the counter!
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/wJMVDohlZylywElQErlj_KvdvsUyN2oQaEYhgABc9R0l9yv-MOJXN0KP8lr8qlx8K4cHwK3jvsqzQ25cy03PYV2Im_ChnPTUdGicn1OGcWMSqgiIWAIgHWFDMde_vtBVFaoR4xgpZeg=w2400)

There were cold towels and free water, as well as a good reliable Wifi (much better than my slow 2G speed from T-Mobile).

The ride to the hotel takes about an hour, there's only one road for the island which is a ring that goes around all the island. The airport is on the east side of the island (near Chabad and main beaches) and the Conrad is on the west side of the island, and basically on the opposite side. Traffic can be slow when too many trucks are on the road as the road can go uphill many times and it slowdowns trucks.
Just before arriving at the hotel the driver has to go up the hill that is very steep and narrow so 2 guards have to coordinate to let only one driver at a time go up or down. (Any driver can go up but you'll probably be very amused to drive the steep hill).

We arrived at the hotel around 2 pm and they took our passports for the check-in process. They brought us cold towels and drinks and we sat in the lobby which is located on top of the hill.

Our butler was Natt and she was really great towards us the all stay as I will point out endless of time. She told me that we got room 501 as requested in the email. The reason I requested this one is that is the more isolated 2 bedroom and there's nothing to its right.

I told her that we'll appreciate if we can keep the 2 bedrooms for the remaining of the stay and she told me that she will try her best. She took us on a buggy to our room from the reception which was a short ride since the 2 bedrooms are in the high up section of the cliff.

She gave me her Whatsapp number and told me to ask her anything through this channel. She also gave us 8 vouchers for free drinks at Azur bar (by the pool) because of our Diamond status. (Most of the things that I'm writing here weren't new for me as I've read the whole thread in FlyerTalk about this hotel, yes the effect of surprise is nice but I like to know everything in advance and play accordingly).
Although we knew exactly how the room looks like, we were really excited just from the view. It's not just a luxury room that we felt like fancy guests, it's the magnificence of nature opening up in front of your eyes and you can see it from the garden, the living room, the master bedroom... anywhere! It filled me with emotions and excitement, I knew at this exact moment that it was all worth it. (funny story, one of the nights I posted on Instagram a lapse time of the sunset from my GoPro and someone asked me and I quote, "How did you find this specific location with amazing sunset view?" you get my point).
I was pretty amazed that it's already afternoon and we didn't feel tired after only 2 days being on another time zone (because right now, 5 days after the trip writing these lines - I'm still jetlagged...) I guess the excitement kept us awake.
At this point, the Kosher food that I ordered the day before arrived, I went to the microwave, cleaned it and boiled water for a couple of minutes then heated the food.
The way it works with the Kosher food from Chabad; the hotel offers free breakfast from Chabad for diamond members for all the guests in the villa (yes, even for my 18 months old daughter). We can order from the meat or dairy restaurant an item for each. It needs to be ordered the day before, before 11 am. Around 12 pm the shuttle from the hotel stops at Chabad and pickup the breakfast for the following day. Anything you want to order from Chabad (through the hotel or Chabad directly) can be delivered at the same time at no charge. If it's requested for another time or the driver left already, then there's an 800 Baht charge which is the same amount that the restaurant itself charges. The hotel has an older version of the meat menu and 1 or 2 items are more expensive, otherwise, it's the same prices and prices are inclusive but I don't think we got points on this kind of spending.
There's someone responsible for the 2 kitchens and he always can help via Whatsapp. I didn't pay a single time during my stay for the delivery fee and always made sure to place my order on time. When the driver was coming back around 1-2 pm, he had our lunch and dinner and also breakfast for the following day. I asked my butler to always bring us all our food straight when it arrives and not to keep it, we were then storing it in our fridge and warm it up later with the microwave.
We got that day a burger, Pad Thai and a chicken breast salad. The burger was much better than in Bangkok and my wife liked the Pad Thai and salad.

After we unpacked and enjoyed looking for the many aspects the villa has we went for an hour swim in our pool, it was relaxing and enjoyable to see our daughter having so much fun.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-_8db91h6BCRSqlgpG7k4YD1cfQOgLh1jVoidYs8QUBbc1pkCCtjMCONSqfw99wsfIXIiRGaEgl1Hl_sHTov5Frlv8XtPpeaPZo2HmKrGWZ7-3l75yzSRxZP4Vojl2x0tkroTbPgfyc=w2400)

We went after to the Azure bar to get the free drinks and sit at the pool. We called a buggy to go to the main pool/bar and they came pretty fast. (Usually, we didn't wait more than 3-4 minutes although the hotel was at 80% occupancy.)
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/tF9hYsVJvSvrnFMirx5yoq8gSo1io-cIi8rgA2fbP6RbcDuWGdSPQdMFUwv16FTB-3tNQB8pkz5HteBIzRVY23aG6nRk9InwaFHEjmd_yCP9so8UQ3qtRTcuBLMoPe1hnXn2bzi9ZW4=w2400)

Because every room/villa here has its own pool, no one really hangs out in the main area unless they want to eat in the restaurant. We were in the highest season of the year (right after the Chinese new year), and it always felt empty (besides breakfast).

After spending some time there we headed back to our villa and went to the shower. My daughter was already tired so I put here to sleep and she fell asleep in minutes. That was actually a big relief because I was afraid that she will feel uncomfortable in this new place and this is the first time she has her own room beside at home. Turned out that to have the 2 bedroom was a big game-changer for our 5 days. After she was sleeping and closing her doors, we basically had the whole night for ourselves. Yes, even with a baby - isn't as bad as you think...
I had to catch up with some phone calls to the US and then went to sleep for a long quiet night.

Fantastic TR so far, keep it coming!

One of these years I'll make it out to USM. Going when you have one kid is smart. Exponentially harder with each additional kid.

I never know what mixed drinks/ingredients are OK to order, would love to hear more about that.

Wasn't me  :) , but they don't have that many 2 and 3 bedroom villas - as per the manger we spoke to in the summer.

Wow reading this makes me want to go back Koh Samui - I was there in the summer (at the W) & loved every minute.

Did you request them to monogram you those items or they did that on their own??

They do it without asking (I did request them to give me new one at the end of the stay after house keeping took them for cleaning, they brought me new ones  before leaving the hotel). I'm not sure if it's only for 2+ bedrooms (and royal villa) guests.

Only the sleepers and the Teddy bear. The bathrobes and pillows have just initials and they belong to the hotel, (they make sure to write it for the bathrobes). The bathrobes that I really wanted to bring home were from the Waldorf Astoria Maldives, they are so soft and made with silk inside, a real dream, but they didn't have enough.

Wednesday 1/29.

We woke up not too early and happy to realize that the little one slept in her own 'suite' for the whole night (or maybe I slept too deeply). We didn't have any plans for the day other than to be in the pool and relax. (We know by now how it is to travel with the baby after traveling to France 3 times, London, Israel, Miami, the Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands. The biggest lesson is that we can enjoy our vacations with her with no issue but to not push too much on activities).

Like every morning we begin our day with a coffee but unlike every morning, there was a great 180į view with 5 islands just for us.
We went then to breakfast at Zest (locate it in the map up thread) to get some fruit and juices (yes, we doubled dip on the breakfast ). I met there with Nicolas (https://instagram.com/piattinico?igshid=1pjxlzqh0homb) the Hotel chef and we had a chat about Kosher, Jewish guests, etc. I then realized that he was the one I was in touch with prior arriving at the hotel for the Kosher meals. He came 2 years ago to work in Koh Samui and he's down to earth's kind of guy.

After breakfast, we walked to the stand of Oceana Samui (https://instagram.com/oceanasamui?igshid=12pg0xgpybyc0)  next to the breakfast, one of their workers was there but she works exclusively at the Conrad as Oceana is the official company that takes cares of the water sports activities and speed boats. We knew already that we want to go see Angthong National Marine Park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/r6kMB1HCf8je7h8k9). We decided to go the next day (Thursday) for the VIP boat which is a tour for 14 people. Going with a baby, that was the minimum we had to get. (There are boats of 30 ppl+ for much cheaper). The price was 4500 Baht per person (after 400 Baht discount because we'll not eat the food) and free for the baby. This was our only outing while in Koh Samui and we were ready to spend the whole day for it. From our past experience traveling with our daughter, we knew that we could manage for (only) a one-day trip.
The planning will be to go with a van to the Oceana pier on the opposite side of the island early morning and to pick up some passengers on the way. From the pier, we'll take the speed boat (with a double engine... it's a thing…) and go to a few places along the national park.
When we came back to our villa after breakfast, I asked our concierge to come to discuss a few things. She confirmed to me then that we'll get the upgrade to a 2 bedroom Villa for the last 2 days complimentary but we'll have to move to another Villa (then on Friday she told me that we can keep the 501 so my plan worked out perfectly). I spoke with her about Kosher food and the way to handle it (and to make sure that I'll not pay the delivery fees…).
We spent that day in and out of the pool and had also great food from Chabad (the lunch was always very fresh as they are picking it up at 12 pm and deliver it around 1).

Delicious chicken breast sandwich

*During all our regular days on this vacation, we were able to maintain a good schedule with our daughter for the nap and sleeping time, so we were planning our days accordingly.
After the nap, my wife wanted to get some pictures at the beach and the pool area and to grab also the free drinks (I like that it's not limited to happy hour time like in other hotels, because when you travel with a baby, the more flexible - the better). We went to the pool area and dropped our daughter in the turtle club. The club is a tiny room with a big TV, a ball pit and a table with chairs for arts & crafts but every time we went there weren't more than 3 kids so it seems like it fits the guests' needs. The staff is exceptionally nice and really impressed us. We thought we'll stay there to play some times with our daughter but then they offered us to leave if we wished to and they will take care of everything!

LOL!

The 'beach' is not a real beach, they added lots of sand a few years ago to cover all the small rocks and coral, during the afternoon the tide is high and the beach becomes even smaller. During our stay, we saw only a few people swimming/snorkeling there.
I took a Kayak to get some pictures of the cliff/resort and my wife went back to the Turtle club.

When we had to go back to our villa, our daughter didn't want to leave the club… she definitely had a great time there. This was our first day that we were able to relax the entire day since we left our house on Saturday night. The pool in the villa is huge (the 2 bedroom's one has an additional corner on the length), you can make lapse and make a party too. We brought a big inflatable (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GEOXCN2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and a small one (https://www.amazon.com/Intex-Recreation-56584EP-Froggy-Multicolor/dp/B014KOHWXE/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=frog+baby+inflatable&qid=1582251257&sr=8-2) for our daughter. It wasn't her first time in a pool but this time she was at the age that kids begin to enjoy it the most, even with a non-heated pool.

Turndown service

Thursday 1/30.

We woke up early, heated up some food and packed for the trip. I davened in the garden with an unobstructed view to the ocean, "...'מה רבו מעשיך ה".
Our driver was waiting for us and we left at 7:45. It was a big van with a nice decorated inside and with water bottles for us. We drove 40 minutes and stopped at the Vana Belle hotel (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Mfx7oKDRQd4ZmJwg8).
An American couple in their 50's came in and we drove another 20 minutes to the pier. We had a chat with the couple, they come from Michigan and he works for GM, they were on a 2 years mission in China and came on vacation to Koh Samui right before the Virus outbreak. GM advised them to not go back and they had to go back now to the US without a house or regular winter clothing…
We waited in the lounge area for other people to join and then walked to the pier to take the boat.

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/T6Cyb0KoiFMGFJS1C25r4fh_QW6II34KJJsrMcEZbvYzU_U2r0oNZxn4px6iSO99l16zZ302JPw2rBxw0yBLzv-wWt-MLPeYBnpZaShIVVcb1zX0gdOrdrlupGKhBQVHWulfwitb2Mw=w2400)

The boat was large and clean, there are seatings under a roof and seating at the front of it to enjoy the wind and the view.

At the center of the boat, there was a huge cooler full of water bottles and soda.

Here (https://goo.gl/maps/tNf7D2U6rA6HxRm69)

We left around 9:45 and had first a stop at the Belmond (https://maps.app.goo.gl/hZFrBEQNLW6qSDaDA) (if you stay there, you get VIP pickup because it's on the boat itinerary/way to the national park). Half the boat actually was filled up at the Belmond and we were a total of 14 visitors including 2 children. One of the guys that came from the Belmond seemed to me Israeli or middle eastern, so I approached him and he told me that he's (Christian) Lebanese and lives currently in Paris. We had a nice conversation in English and French, he told me also that he was waiting to get his french passport to go to Israel. The boat ride was beautiful, every mile there were different small islands/rocks popping out of the water, each one with a different shape and some with very interesting ones. Our daughter wanted to walk all the time and go up and down the small steps heading to the boat front. Everyone was smiling to her, overall was a very relaxing atmosphere with lots of understanding. The ride took about an hour.
Our first stop was at Mu Koh Angthong National Marine Park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/r6kMB1HCf8je7h8k9).
There were only 3 long-tail boats (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long-tail_boat) so there weren't many people there.

We had the baby carrier (https://becobabycarrier.com/collections/beco-gemini/products/beco-gemini-grey) (brought specially for this trip and also for the bike at the Waldorf) and that made it much easier for the steps to go up the rock (it was much easier and shorter than last summer at the Masada hike, but back then the package was lighter ).

At the top, there was a beautiful view of the green lagoon and we took some pictures.

Then the steps bring us down to be about one level higher than the lagoon.

On the steps to go back to the departing point, our very nice guide gave us a twist in our path and I loved it.

When we headed back, a big boat (ferry) was approaching the island, the boat can't come too close to the island so all passengers have to transit with long-tail speedboats (make yourself a favor and avoid these ferry kind adventure in Thailand, especially in a virus outbreak season).

Our next stop was in a nearby island/rock with rich coral and some caves, very good for snorkeling.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/y8n1OszazHljUQeY43Jl5VeGuMpNeIQtVLrqjN_cTJIz3hc_892CVIY0sqk_wYX5pRQvxfAtClRAKha6v4vsaBpp3GAs1BtcBRLbHaqBySOiYdJROpS3kKgka9FGM1gnZWHKI6x1IgU=w2400)

(this timeline is not so accurate because I turned off the data towards the end of the trip)

My wife doesn't like so much snorkeling which made her a perfect candidate to stay on the boat with the little one the time being her father will play with the fish and his GoPro. The company provided us with snorkeling gear and life jackets.
There weren't many fish or any special ones but the coral was very rich and alive, we saw a school or two of fish. It was my first time snorkeling under a rock and it was a really good experience. Because there are some holes on the top of the rock, the sun can go through the water depending on the time of the day, it will be usually around 11 am for the place we went and I can imagine how clear and see through the water would be, but we were there an hour later and the clarity wasn't so bad.

We swam back to the boat and my wife and the baby joined me for a nice swim in the ocean. It's such a pleasure to see your baby not afraid of the water, and best of all - she was pointing on the small fish passing by .

They had to feed the hungry passengers on the boat so we headed to this restaurant (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Le8JyzDfcvboVtwA8).

More beautiful islands on the way.

On our way there way our captain saw from far Dolphins, they were near to the shore of a rock/island and another boat with french tourists was also there watching them. First, they were pretty far but then they slowly swam closer to us. All the passengers were on their toes watching with lots of excitement. One of the Dolphins was pink! But unfortunately was too far to capture it with my phone. My wife was thrilled, and our daughter was really excited to spot her favorite animal (her plush/lovey is a Dolphin).
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/6l1usg7paM2khQ0qVkTqUITN_Bn4A2KASj2IxA60Xghz3rxhVGFbwD1PXM2Fca-GrR3K6Bto73qwGpdB1ZWjbSYPeJMj4-42StXfCYm8ME6wxFlFCl-8eUiHMOsQG3X5Q6dTNWI648w=w2400)
(A few months before our trip my wife was searching about activities near Koh Samui and found out that there are pink dolphins there, we didn't follow through with this idea but it was still sitting in the back of her head).
We went then to the island with the restaurant, the restaurant has a few sitting areas, some tables didn’t have tablecloths and some had. Our group was seated in the tablecloths’ section (VIP…) and ourselves, went on the side to sit on a single (without a tablecloth’...) table to eat our snacks and bread. On my way to the bathroom, I saw the kitchen with lots of flies and other insects… we are lucky to eat only Kosher! This island is apparently where all the groups come to eat and the food is paid by the boat companies that bring the guests, with different menus. We stayed there for about an hour and went back to the boat.
Our next stop was in a beautiful place where there's a very narrow sandbank created from two islands' shore next to each other. They had there lots of kayaks but the baby was sleeping.
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I0tfFAmU5G4Zs2kbRk_wTK5rlHnS6Y3lLlRDEfcaRlT3KACHooGBvq46Nc4dmIKE7zZq6AX00siWJ_xLhSoRWRX714y0KKABagvKvGZmedPKIopuE3HzIcXPfaQ_5i3E3wLi5lgxpE=w2400)

I took her on the baby carrier while she was still sleeping and walked towards the sandbank. I made my way in the shallow water and on the ground between the foliage and trees, all the way making sure that the baby will not move too much so she can sleep properly. At some points, the water arrived almost to my upper body, but besides her legs she was dry and we made it!

They served us fresh coconuts and it was a real Mechaye!
The way back took also an hour and the water was a bit rough but overall we had really nice weather that day and BH everything went smooth.

We had a quick dairy dinner, Aioli Pasta and Pizza.

Thanks for continuing to write up a great trip report!

You went to the Maldives and Koh Samui in one trip, but if someone who has been to neither place can only go to one which would you suggest they choose?

Thanks!
The Maldives of course. As much as we had an amazing time in Koh Samui, with a huge villa and tons of Kosher food, beautiful scenery and a friendly staff, it doesn't even compare to the Maldives.
I'm writing first about Koh Samui because of the chronological order, and more importantly, if I'm writing about the Maldives first, it will be disappointing to continue...

I figured  :).

I saw on your IG story that Koh Samui came first so I knew you would be writing about that first. Actually reading about it is impressive. I can't imagine what you're going to say about the Maldives that is going to make this sound mild and disappointing  ;D! Just kidding, I'm sure you loved and enjoyed both  :D.

Thank you!

I hope you can do it, but the main part to consider in the equation is that you'll have the nicest moments with your daughter while on vacation.

My head is not there, I'm sorry but it's hard for me to write about it when no one can travel, when everyone (including me) has to cancel their trips etc. Although, time is not an issue. Maybe next week I'll be in a better mood to write it.

Amazing TR.

I'm sorry but it's hard for me to write about it when no one can travel, when everyone (including me) has to cancel their trips etc.
I hear you. I look at it the other way.. it's dafka when I can't fly that I enjoy reading TRs.
Keep safe

I would like to get quickly to The Maldives so Iíll make the in-between a bit shorter.
We chilled Friday in the Villa and at the pool, and went for a tour in the resort. We visited Botanikka (https://goo.gl/maps/beSmRkQCGjrTnqAG9) that day, it's at the top of the cliff between our villa and the reception, and itís a very interesting place. It's the same size of our villa with the same structure all redesigned as a garden. The pool looks like a small lake with ducks, they have a garden where they grow vegetables and some restaurants in the hotel use them. As everywhere in the resort, they were very nice to us and played with our daughter there.

The previous day I placed my order for Friday-Shabbos-Sunday through the concierge and added some shabbos items through the Chabad house itself and asked them to hand it to the hotel together with the other items. Everything came Friday afternoon and we realized that we have too much to eatÖ
I spoke to our Buttler before Shabbos that they shouldn't touch the electricity in our villa the whole shabbos and I asked her to bring us a platter of fresh-cut fruits for breakfast (I canít find it on the receipt so I believe we werenít charged for it). I also asked her to bring us some board games but she was able to find only a Jenga and a Scrabble game. She also brought us a lovely teddy bear dressed with a monogrammed bathrobe and my daughterís name on it, how lovely!

Shabbos was in around 6 pm, with a Kabolas shabbos in the garden and the beautiful view of the sunset and then our Shabbos meal with a sad Barkan wine that didnít justify its price tag but they explained to me that in Thailande itís hard to get Kosher wine. Though, in that Villa in this part of the world who am I to complainÖ

We had a nice Shabbos, Shacharis was in the garden (porch) but without a minyanÖ ;)
We read the newspaper that was brought to us on Wednesday, especially the section with the Covid19 numbers. We got worried that in Thailand there were 19 casesÖ looking back I can just laugh at these low numbers but at that time it was one of the highest after China.
After Shabbos, I had to take care of the accounting aspect of the hotel stayÖ I prepaid before arriving at the hotel a big amount with Aspire credit that I got for less than half their face value towards my room folio, knowing that I will use the money for the activity, upgrade, and kosher food. I planned accordingly but I still had 2 full Aspire credits from me and my DW from the Amex glitch on the FYF Aspire card (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=109305.msg2151453#msg2151453), so on Friday and Saturday night I went to the front desk to ask them for cash and they charged a 5% fee for it (used to be without a fee but that was before there was an ATM at the hotel). Even with the 5%, it was well worth it obviously.

To summarize my total cost at the Hotel:
I loaded $1500 with Aspire credits (I paid $625 for them) to my room + $500 from our own cards = +$2000
The room upgrade for 3 nights (+2 free nights) was -$950
Kosher food -$190
Limousine transfer RT -$100
Angthong tour -$310
Cash paidout -$380
Other expenses, paidout fees, and adjusting lower exchange rate from early loads -$70
So we spent $625 on our room and got back $380 in cashÖ Not bad!
We also got 20,174 HHonors points for this stay.
(Note that the hotel let me paid only with 6 third party (Aspire) CCís, otherwise I would come out with a positive balanceÖ)
I paid at the front desk the remaining balance with the 2 Aspire cards and went back to the villa to pack our suitcases for our flight the next day to Singapore-MLE.

Our flight to Singapore was scheduled at 9:50 AM, with an hour drive we were scheduled to leave the Conrad after 7:30 AM. We heated the breakfast and got juices from the breakfast (Zest). The bellman came to take our luggage and we went to the lobby. Our butler, Natt,  was waiting for us there with a new pair of monogrammed slippers (after housekeeping took them out of the room for cleaningÖ). They gave us again a small star, a lizard and a turtle plush for our daughter. The nice Toyota SUV was waiting for us but we had to wait for them to bring a car seat.

Last morning at the Conrad:

Goodbye:
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/LsjCBGEM3gHm0kkQe-x_qKJorEbXC31YC0FG-VwFhZqV32miY_mCu_Zhgo0VlrCbZDKLIGDe-kV3UzYrzOPEhuKPEgTaP7DXMM6IvhtB-RohP7SYdl6sJG_NvU_A2faliI9vjMviPZY=w2400)

The stay at the Conrad was really amazing! Besides the fact that they gave us a 2 nights free upgrade to the 2 bedroom villa, they were extremely helpful for everything we needed throughout the stay. Our butler Natt was always here to help us with anything we needed with just a WhatsApp message. She brought us a big case of water bottles at the beginning of the stay and always made sure we have everything we need (I tipped her nicely that day). The staff were always very nice to us and especially with our daughter, sometimes going out of their way to bend and smile at her. The staff at the Turtle (kids) club were really amazing and so kind, although we didnít take much advantage of their free service.
I also forgot to mention that on the 2nd of our stay I bought Diapers and beers from the Tops App (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iplus.tops&hl=en_US), it was very easy to buy (with a US CC) with free delivery and the hotel staff brought it to the room. I knew about this app before leaving the US and was planning on buying diapers locally instead of schlepping them.
We drove about 50 minutes to the airport. This day (February 2nd) was the first day that Singapore banned all travelers that were in China in the past 14 days and the hotel sent me an email to make sure we werenít in China previously. The terminal is open to the outside (a bit like in Kauai) and they have a nice rest area outside between the baggage drop and security.

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/yTLFMYsbN_1Hewcmn9rZBdgj6V2OsT4UlXjq5imYGugGbbuGdBvn6IOQFygWMyqpamZJWOfMrfLv8YEdLz1Ers16dovbYobNUSCIuGEOZHHnvAEXz7HDioph7Woh_Akdx_sdVB3OSTg=w2400)

I asked the lady at the counter to check through our luggage to our final destination (MLE). We had 2 separate tickets to fly to Singapore and then to MLE with 2 different airlines, SilkAir and Singapore Airlines. Since SilkAir is the regional wing of Singapore Airlines I figured it would be easy to check through and we wonít have to take our luggage for our 8 hours layover. Nevertheless, the lady had to make 2 phone calls and another 15 minutes on her computer to get it done.

On the way to security:
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/u18e9G-I4LOhbTKnoJqIgW1WSTZQ_CpV71S9Ffnc8ZPWSqaSHw-CJo-R9EVpX4c1hUTtIdgWGc-lSoIrotRJrTBwPSy6fGg22Zdde5tuG7mhIKduqGqNmQskntdeovh1U9mrdfwSDZE=w2400)

After we finished with our luggage I had to exchange all the Bahts I got from the Hotel to USD. The exchange bureau had a really good rate but they were missing some bills so I had to mix some USD and EUR, then I checked the XE app and realized I got the exact exchange rate, go figure.

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Z7jteDiYPnFrhKIM3OZkWLZUEwUwMVG53mRCdeFfxHSzOdKIqNuE9wYH4jG30IfB69GcQUxKi2N1vdVibi_ya0XnUds-XBfXGDOJ69wh31hIAnQrQCs-WQ_p2vIh1gLvsW9BqB0zEkA=w2400)

After security, we went to the Blue Ribbon lounge (Bangkok airways) with our PP card. Since we were a bit late because of the car seat, check through process, and the exchange bureau procedure, we had only 10 minutes to grab fruit and juices and to head to the airplane.

Our flight was half empty and we were seated in the first economy row (bassinet) with 3 seats. The crew were really nice and brought us a plush airplane with their logo. On our short 2 hours flight, we were seated next to a German couple with a toddler, they were the previous months in China working for a german company and spent the past few weeks in Thailand for vacation, now they had to go back to Germany because of the virus.

Approaching SIN airport:

It took only 20 minutes from the time we landed till we were in the Taxi. The army was screening everyone for fever at the airport (https://www.dsta.gov.sg/docs/default-source/dsta-about/dh01200501-development-and-deployment-of-infrared-fever-screening-systems.pdf) and someone came to check the temperature of the baby in the stroller.

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pb9Wrlfuuly8zutiXe9oJMQo6bh5TTdZpHYiqlNIDMsfDZGbC4CZ31_88Nlty7sCHwuxJYHzciV5HX_cQQZumSdCAzfiA2By9fMmziy00fi_jrq2fq5d2iIZu5FdsgObOfLUP4oFdfs=w1415-h944)

We booked a cab through Grab, and this time I was able to pay with my US CC (unlike Thailande). We drove 20 minutes to the Jacob Ballas center (https://goo.gl/maps/SYn1r5YZaRffw32X7) for SGD $17 (USD $12), to meet my young brother and eat lunch at Awafi restaurant. My brother arrived in Singapore 2 weeks earlier, he came for Shlicus for the year. Although we were planning anyway to transit through Singapore, it was another good reason to be there.

On the way:
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Yb4xrWPXjsXny9rtuM-b411oIFcvCbLDLwkVi6inpn4uKFpSlXXQS_p0FLFDYs2ykmphK1c7YkKLkTi52qrAP9YPN_ER3oxjfb2IEPeQIycVf2Z0yhj8azHQsg9OP9n1kta06pmr9ZY=w2400)

At the entrance, someone came to take our temperature and we passed security easily because they knew my brother.

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/CRXtqWDr7NQse_wZaMpJyE0whsiA1PoB19zDRxSmpuIyzd-YVq2qZPr4FM1RIK_ERBcPyf2BkymOlhhmELPg5my9q9diN_gjHQomkImx9npS0xosjR3PdewZ1-d_kc9iGGRxsNxZnqI=w1415-h944)

We went to the restaurant upstairs and ordered a Falafel plate (comes with a few Pitas), a chicken salad and Fries. The menu is very limited and the chicken is not so fresh usually, but the Falafel and salad were good and affordable prices. Since we also ordered meals for our Maldives trip through the restaurant, I paid all the balance at once, I paid USD $107 for 4 meals and what we ordered that day.

After lunch we were headed to the Gardens by the bay (https://goo.gl/maps/L9msKfpsX1JqZvNz5) we had to pay by cash only for the Subway so I withdrew money with my SoFi money card and paid about $5 for 2 tickets RT.

We decided to buy tickets for the Flower Dome (https://g.page/flowerdomegbb?share) and the Cloud Forest (https://g.page/cloudforestgbb?share), we paid SGD $58 for both of us for the admission in both places. It was really worth it to visit them. They have beautiful sculptures and flowers but Iíll let the picture speak for themselves.

We spent about 45 minutes in each place and walked back to the subway.
We went back to the Jewish center to pick up our frozen meals and took a Grab to the airport. We checked in the carry on with our meals and went to shower at the Ambassador Transit Lounge. The lounge is not of the nicest but was enough to be refreshed from the long day.

(our original plan was to spend the night at the Four Season in Singapore and fly Monday morning to MLE. Since we had already a short stay in the Maldives, we decided to spend the night also at the Waldorf Astoria in the Maldives and just tour a bit during the layover. We used a free weekend night for that Sunday night at the hotel and arranged the boat transfer to the hotel at 10:30 PM since they do the Yacht transfer for any flight at any time. I changed our flight and got refunded 50% of the miles (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=112927.msg2185033#msg2185033) and also the change fees were refunded (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=112927.msg2196853#msg2196853)).

We boarded the flight, a few months earlier they changed this route to the Dreamliner instead of the A330, we got again bassinet seats. The crew are really the nicest in the air, even in coach, and they brought us a big amenity bag for our daughter (diapers, Lion kingís plush and a baby bib), itís interesting that on the way back, on Business we didnít get this amenity bag.
The flight of 4 hours went very smoothly, they have lots of programs and a rich selection for kids, and again we got an extra seat next to us.
When we landed, I saw a China Southern aircraft (probably CZ3059/3060 (https://flightaware.com/live/flight/CSN3059/history/20200202/1420Z/VCBI/VRMM) to CMB and then CAN). At the immigration, they handed a paper to everyone about the Coronavirus. It had medical questions and also questions about recent travel to China. It seems to me that they began to ask to fill up this form that same day and maybe we were from the first. The next day (2/3) it was announced in the media that Maldives bans all travelers from China. (I donít know if the travelers from Guangzhou, China were allowed in or were sent back, from what the hotel staff told me later, I believed they werenít allowed in).

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/1HdaHrLdPL2OUyYhBeoo_u7ZJl-oM_u2_rfMWP1GLLmKSc_m8u6gmZmrNUvhIi88tXL4Dztj9hV3zcfGU-cuuNDIGpUEDGlRh5RJJad-ucRwrHLr9IL0yVkD2YN2VIm9KbbqbScvFKk=w2400)

While we waited for our luggage to come, 2 guys that didnít speak English approached me to offer some help, I asked them if they were from the hotel and they said yes, although I knew they werenít, I let them help me for a $2 tip. After we passed the customs there was a guy waiting for us with the hotel sign and told us that weíll be the only ones on the Yacht so we are not gonna have any wait time.

After going out of the airport to the fresh air, we waited less than 5 minutes and the Yacht approached the dock. Itís a beautiful large Princess Yacht (https://www.princessyachts.com/our-craft/f-class/f55/) about 55 ft long with 2 rooms downstairs we sat on the couch on the main deck and they served us fruits and juices.

They also took our passports to send a picture to the hotel to make it faster for the check-in. The crew (4) onboard was really nice, they put the Baby Shark music for the baby. It was an hour boat ride, a bit longer than usual because of the rough waves during the night. When we approached the deck there were 5 people from the hotel waiting and waiving from the deck, a warm welcome.
The original price for the boat transfer was $700 (+23%) /P RT and free for children (in 2020 they reduced it to $600 RT++ for new reservations). Because there was an old language in their website until February 15th 2019 (the exact date we reserved 2 of our nights) for $370++ RT, they honored this price for us (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=15937.msg2106594#msg2106594).
We arrived at midnight to the hotel and the only thing we wanted was to get to our room as soon as possible, we were tired from that long day and it was time to have a good sleep. From the dozens of requests I sent the hotel prior to my arrival was to get an overwater villa in the 100ís, for many reasons that Iíll explain later it was important for me to not be in the 700ís in the north but in the 100ís in the south.

(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/4oTW-8wMcT4HDywmenklMiAHnXAmpB1Y_dkWHpeu2lJ-K3wsGMi2oujLJtbCo6rBDmTcWLpKsuDEdLFQd1-qdCLemE9c1ubckoX_iMpdJg4YfeFMS0QTXfS1WtGSPtzpQf2kZ7iCYQ0=w2400)

Our butler Shiam (https://www.instagram.com/shiy44m/?hl=en) brought us to the reception which is next to Peacock Alley (https://goo.gl/maps/PfSL9ewYcJEb82dL6) and told me that we got a Villa in the 700ísÖ Although the hotel upgraded/downgraded us (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=15937.msg2129349#msg2129349) to the Overwater villa from the standard beach villa for the whole stay, I wasnít happy that they didnít allocate us to the south side. We had to wait for another 40 minutes until we got a room in the 100ís and made it ready. Because it wasnít the room they prepared originally, it was missing the crib, amenity kits, the Kosher wine and welcome fruit basket (they brought all of it later on and the next day). We went to sleep around 2 AM in the gorgeous Villa, more of it in the next installment. When we woke up in the morning we already forgot all about it.

Thank you!
Why did you choose WA over say the St Regis?
Maybe next time it will be the StR...
The WA being brand new was for us the main factor. (Add to it: avoiding seaplane with a baby, Getting 60% off my bill, and we got an overwater villa without an upgrade fee).

did you email the manager about the overwater villa?
Yes, but it's not relevant anymore.
I'll explain in the next installment.

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi: (https://waldorfastoria3.hilton.com/en/hotels/maldives/waldorf-astoria-maldives-ithaafushi-MLEONWA/index.html)

Since I'm the first one to review this hotel in this forum, I will also cover the booking process and other helpful information.
We booked 2 of our 3 nights long in advance (almost a year earlier). Not long after we booked, the hotel didn't have any availability for the month of January and February until a month before our arrival when I could've booked more nights before or after the stay. When the cancellation window comes closer, more room will be available since people are freeing up their reservations (even on peak seasons).
I began to email the hotel long in advance, first for the price mistake (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=15937.msg2097921#msg2097921) of the boat transfer and then to ask them an upgrade to an overwater villa (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=15937.msg2129349#msg2129349).
From the 1 bedroom villas, the hotel has 3 categories, Beach, Reef (entrance from the ground and the other half Overwater), and the Overwater villa. We originally booked the base room which used to be the beach villa but since the hotel experienced a high demand for the beach villa after they had many families coming, the hotel changed the base room to be the Reef>Overwater>Beach. Because we had a reservation for the Beach Villa, we had basically the choice between the 3 of them. Beginning of 2020, the hotel changed the base room also for points redemption and it's possible to book directly an overwater villa with points (called ocean villa). Though, it's easier to find the 'Reef Villa' with points than the 'Ocean villa'.
The rate for the standard room award is 120k HH points with the 5th night free, or a free weekend night certificate.
We decided to spend more time at the Conrad USM than in the Maldives mainly because of the Kosher meals at the Conrad and also because we didn't want to be too long in an overwater villa with a toddler.

Arrival pier:

The Hotel was always very responsive to our emails and easy to communicate with. Before our arrival we already booked most of our activities and asked them for a Kosher wine bottle too. Like at the Conrad, I preloaded money to my portfolio before our arrival, they were sending me payment links without any question asked (I loaded $2000 prior arrival and $750 at the hotel, (my total cost price was $1220)).
As mentioned before, I asked the hotel to stay on the south side of the island in the 100's.
As you can see on the map, the Overwater villas are 101-145 (south), and 701-737 (north).
On the North side, there are Villas on both sides of the bridge, more crowded. It's also windier and the water is colder. There's also more boat traffic and at night there are lights from Male visible. Besides the reef next to the Dive center that is located on the north side of the resort, the snorkeling next to the 700's villas is less comfortable (more rocks and more shallow).
That's the reason that I waited for a room to be ready on the south side, although it was late and I almost gave up because DW and the baby just wanted to sleep... (they weren't the ones reading FlyerTalk for months... ).

When we came to the room, our butler showed us the room and explained to us how everything works. The room is controlled from an iPad, for the lighting, AC, fan, room service, etc. He also gave us a phone with his number to call him every time we need something.

When we arrived on Sunday night we gave them our frozen meals to keep them in the freezer. The hotel charges $20++ per meal per person to heat up the food (we paid $12 for our meals from Awafi), and they don't provide microwaves in the room. I would've paid this price if the meals were decent, but my brother, that eats at Awafi's kitchen daily, told me that the chicken is dry and it will not be worth it. (I wanted to bring Pom meals but figured that it would be a bit complicated to schlep them for a week). We brought with us a pot and a burner and had rice, couscous and tons of snacks. We ate very well in Thailand but in the Maldives, it was at the minimum level.
(The hotel told me before that they can get meals from Australia but a week before they notified me that it will not be doable). Don't worry, we ate properly and we weren't hungry.
-Side note; any price mentioned here is before the service charge and taxes, there's 23% to add on top of it, as explained here (https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilton-hilton-honors/1890498-waldorf-astoria-maldives-ithaafushi-mdv.html).
Every morning we went to breakfast, they have a large variety of fruits, vegetables and juices. Anything that is not there can be asked and brought on-demand. They also have cereals with Kosher symbols, they brought me the boxes so I can check them. (Breakfast is free for Gold and Diamond HH members).
On our first day, they also brought us a Kosher wine bottle (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=15937.msg2194013#msg2194013) that I enjoyed a lot during the stay. I had confirmed with them for it before but they gave it to other Jewish guests (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=15937.msg2194674#msg2194674) without having to ask.

There are bikes in the resort to move around and they now put the room number on the bike to ensure that no one mistakes others' for theirs, they even have bikes for children.

And for her too:

Our experience with the buggies was that they were slow to come (10-15 minutes) although the hotel was at half occupancy. If there's a certain time you know in advance that you'll need one, they are reliable to come on time. We used our 2 bikes all the time to go everywhere in the resort and I had the child with me on a baby carrier. We actually loved biking on the island on the firm sand and the creaking noise passing the wooden bridge. Passing by staff members greeting you with their right hand on their chest and a big smile that makes you feel so welcome... Since we were on the far end of the island we had to bike a lot to go to breakfast or to Peacock Alley for Happy hour, but for us, it was a real pleasure.

The lovely greeting, every time a guess passes them:

The occupancy at the hotel was pretty low, on our 2nd day they told me that it's at 40% only. The main reason is because the country banned Chinese visitors although it was right after the Chinese new year.
There are about 120 rooms/Villas in the resort so only 45 were occupied and 3 of them by Jewish couples (DDFrs too, more of that later). I wrote about it on the forum (https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=15937.msg2195807#msg2195807) and @Dan reported it on DDMS (https://www.dansdeals.com/points-travel/airlines/airline-news/cathay-pacific-suspends-flights-newark-washington-dc-maldives/) (with some exaggeration... ;).
The hotel set the time one hour ahead of Male so the guests can enjoy one more hour of light during the day. When you're on an isolated island, it doesn't really matter what time it is...

During the day they prepared our bed for the 'special occasion'...
Although we were a bit upset on Sunday night that it took time to get our room, when we woke up Monday morning we were just thrilled to be there. This was the highlight of our trip and we waited so long for it. The villa was so perfect and everything smelt like a million $$. We were also glad that we booked that night although we were so tired. (truth is that I didn't sleep much during our 72 hours stay, I was in intensive adrenaline, I really felt like a dream ;D).

The first thing I wanted to do that morning (after a good Espresso and davening) was to go in the water, I brought with me a special guest...

And of course the huge swimming pool too:

Before going to breakfast, my daughter decided to drop her shoe to the water... Thanks to the huge skimmer net, found in one of the closet outside, we got it back.

Breakfast table:

The breakfast is served at the Tasting table, after the 500's Villas, (pretty much the opposite side of the island from our Villa).

After Breakfast, we went to the water sport (next to the 300's) to book the JetSki for the next day and we also took a paddleboat in the lagoon.

Right next to the water sport there's the kids' club. They get usually between 15 to 30 kids at a time but when we were there there was only the chef's daughter playing with her nanny. They have an indoor and outdoor space. The outdoor space is full of water games with slides and kids can have lots of fun there. Kids older than 4 can be left there at any time during the day for free. Younger than 4, parents can be with them or there's a babysitting option of $25++ /H. The babysitting fee is the same if it's in the Villa (We used this service too) or if it is in the kid's club. The staff in the kids club are from different countries, they all speak perfect English and are sooo nice! (Like all the staff actually, but even nicer, and very professional).

Early afternoon, after the baby had her nap we were seating at the main beach area of the hotel and then I got the so-much-waited email from Expert Flyer notifying me that there's available seats on the (long) last leg of our trip. We booked with AC but at the time of booking there was only 1 seat on Eva Air for J. I took the risk to book it hoping that they will open up award space. I was tracking the space availability and saw that there were many vacant seats on J 6 days out so I knew they will open up. When I got the email, it was the last drop to make this trip perfect. I waited for 7 AM EST and called AC to move that leg to J. (Other guests looking at me were probably raising an eyebrow why I jumped out of my lounger looking at my phone with so much Chayus...)

I went snorkeling a few times next to the Villa, there are fish there, it's not rocky and very accessible. Since I went to 2 snorkeling next to the Dive center with a guide and a special camera, the next 2 days, I'll share these pictures on the next installments.

For sunset, we went to Amber (next to the Spa, on the west side). It was so calm and peaceful, no one was there.

Like at the Conrad, I preloaded money to my portfolio before our arrival, they were sending me payment links without any question asked (I loaded $2000 prior arrival and $750 at the hotel, (my total cost price was $1220)).

I got that but you said you only paid 1220 for $2750 I was wondering how you got it so discounted.

Sellers were selling at this price in 2019.

The water club run by Ocean (https://www.instagram.com/oceanmaldives/?hl=en) provides the snorkeling gears for each villa, we called on our first day to get them deliver and they were with us during the whole stay. The hotel offers also two items to press for free for Diamond members upon arrival.

Every day, between 4 to 5 PM, they have complimentary drinks at Peacock alley  (https://goo.gl/maps/YDfDfuWHqVMkCLPbA) for Diamond members. On the 1st day, they brought us a platter of fruits, and I could've ordered any drink from the complimentary menu as much as I wanted. Not many people were there the first day, and there was a couple from Cuba playing music. I met the 1st day, at the happy hour drinks, an American couple from Texas, they were the only Americans there, and we chatted about Hilton points, safety at the hotel and FlyerTalk blog. There was there a young waiter from Vietnam that kept bringing us drinks, he was extremely friendly with us, and we saw him another few times during the stay.

Since there are lots of restaurants with different cuisines, and not all of them are open the same day, the staff from various dining venues will also work in other bars/restaurants during the days they are closed. Locals will not serve or prepare drinks usually since it's forbidden by law. Hotels in the Maldives must bring foreign workers for this job.
On Monday night, when we arrived at our villa from Amber, we met our butler Shiam (https://www.instagram.com/shiy44m/) that was waiting for us to arrive. He told us that the next day (Tuesday) there would not be electricity nor water running in the whole resorts between 12-5 Pm... We were shocked and upset to hear that our luxury hotel will run into such problems. He explained that this is maintenance they must do; otherwise, the hotel will not be able to function appropriately in the future. To compensate us, the hotel will set up unlimited free food and drinks at the main pool for all the guests. I told him that this would not make us happier since we can't eat the food, and maybe they can compensate with a credit towards our room folio for activities that we will spend anyway at the hotel. He told me that he will speak with his manager to see what he can offer.
The good thing about coming to the Maldives from another Asian country is that you don't have any jetlag. I wasn't able to sleep correctly though; I was in an adrenaline mood full of excitement for the total 72 hours we were there. I slept only 3-4 hours each night and wasn't tired during the day. It was a long-prepared vacation that not only didn't disappoint but made me feel the happiest person on earth. I was able to upload a lot of content to my IG stories during the nights only because I didn't have time for it during the day.

Tuesday morning we planned to do some water sports. We dropped our daughter at the Kid's club (https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/31255207-post1253.html) where a designated BBsitter took care of her. As mentioned before, children younger than 4 need to be with their parents at the kid's club or pay the BBsiting fees. We wanted to book two activities at the water sport (https://waldorfastoria3.hilton.com/resources/media/wa/MLEONWA/en_US/pdf/en_MLEONWA_Activities_Brochure_Jul_2019.pdf) . The first one was Jet Ski, and I was thinking going for the Seabob. They explained to me that the seabob is only in the resort's lagoon, and if I want to go into the ocean with it, I need to rent the speedboat on top of it. They were so desperate for some business that they were ready to give me 50% off on the speedboat price, but it was still not worth it for me. They told us that this is the high season, and right after the chineese new-year, and were expecting to be very busy but because of the Chinese ban in the Maldives they didn't have many booking for that week (and they got the same feedback from Ocean's (https://www.instagram.com/oceanmaldives/?hl=en) employees at other resorts they operate).
We decided to do the Jet Ski in the morning and Night snorkeling that night. We went for an hour guided Jet Ski ($350++), the guide in the first Jet, and me and DW in the second. We first went to a small  (https://goo.gl/maps/ZU5xwzNTkM2cuppRA) sandbank right outside the resort to take some pictures, and the went for a fast drive in the deep ocean. It wasn't my first time on a Jet Ski, but it's not like Jetskiing on the beach/shore at all. When the sea was utterly dark blue, which means deep water, the water was rough and it was a fun drive. The water kept changing color every other mile. We passed through lagoons, 'buried islands' and other resorts. At one point, our guide told us that the resort in construction in our right would be the Ritz Carlton (https://www.traveldailymedia.com/marriott-debuts-in-maldives-with-ritz-carlton-brand/).

At one point, when I was going a bit too fast, I made a wrong turn to the right, and we have swept away with the wave. We fell to the water and I lost my Go Pro mounted to my head. DW and I weren't injured and besides the Go Pro lost, it was a fun experience. (My Jetty renters insurance refunded me the Go Pro a month later). After an hour, we arrived back at the resort exhausted and went to pick up our daughter on our way to the villa and catch the last shower before the blackout. It was really nice to ride a Jet Ski with my wife in the middle of the ocean, something I was waiting to do for a long time and was on the top of my 'to-do' list.

Shiyam called me on the way and let me know that the hotel would like to offer us the Spa (https://www.waldorfastoriamaldives.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/WA-Spa-Menu-EG.pdf) booked for the next day, to compensate us for the blackout, (a $440++ value, +30 minutes for free for Diamond members). We already had a reservation made two weeks prior to arrival for the Spa, so the offer for the free Spa was really appreciated.

Earlier at breakfast, I spotted a guy with a cap wondering around the fruits and juices, I knew he deserves a Sholom Aleichem, so I went to say 'Hi'. @shauly wasn't embarrassed to see a bearded Jew with his kippa in a small island with less than 50 guests, and was even smiling at me 8). We chatted a bit, and he told me that he has some CY milk and salami in his room, and since he's leaving that day, he will be happy to give them to me. So after we got our shower before the 'Sof Zman', I took my bike to go to his Villa. From Villa 129 to 713, I needed to cross the whole resort, but biking on the island was my favorite activity.

I took pictures of the resort on my way there.

Stella Maris Villa.

Halfway there, next to the arrival pier, I met Camille (https://www.linkedin.com/in/camille-gaillard-6b08b6149/?originalSubdomain=fr), @shauly's Buttler, we spoke in French about the hotel, the Maldives, Kosher food and more. @shauly was all packed and ready to go in his (dark) villa, without AC, and waiting for his buggy. He gave more food than I could've eaten, but he probably felt good not to throw it away...

After our daughter's nap, we went to the main pool area where everyone was supposed to be for their free food and drinks. It's funny that all the guests together looked like a small family as there werenít many guests in the hotel in general. Se sat at the pool and took drinks and fruits.

All the guests were in a good mood, and that was the most important. I don't know what and if the hotel offered to everyone, but they for sure did an excellent job of fixing the issue they had. At one point, I saw another DDF'er sitting not far from us, but he wasn't in the mood of a L'chaim together, so I didnít bother him and went to chat with the elderly couple from Texas. After an hour there, they came to announce that power was back! It was only 4 PM and the all episode wasn't bad at all. We had a good time that afternoon and a free Spa treatment scheduled for the next day.

We went back to our Villa and got ready for a family photo shoot. The photoshoot itself + 1 printed picture is free, but you need to pay to get the pictures. We weren't sure if we'll buy later the photos depending on how they will come out. We ended up paying for 30 pictures the next day, (but only because it came out cheap for me thanks to the Aspire credits). As much as family's pictures on a tropical island look lovely, a lot of hard work needs to be put in it to keep the child happy and entertained, especially when it's boiling hot. The photographer was patient and got us really nice pictures.

At 8:30, we had our night snorkeling booked ($90++/PP). A BBsiter came to our villa, the same one our daughter had in the morning, a lovely lady from the Philippines. She was taking care so nicely of our daughter, and we were able to leave the Villa peacefully.

When we arrived at the diving center, it was closed and no one was there. I called Shiyam so he can find out why no one was there. After 20 minutes, 2 persons from the diving center arrived and they apologized for the misunderstanding. It turned out that she didn't understand that morning at the water sports center that we confirmed the night snorkeling. Haru (https://www.instagram.com/ha_867ru/?hl=en) is from Japan and her English isn't perfect, but she apologized and promised that weíd have a good time. As goodwill, her manager offered us the underwater camera for free, and she offered to take the pictures herself. They also took off an hour and a half of BBsitting from our bill.
Snorkeling at night is very different than during the day, you will not see much fish because your flashlight is focusing only on one spot, but you can see other fish that come out only at night. The experience is also different and more interesting. We got our snorkeling gears and a diving flashlight. We stayed in the water for longer than an hour and we saw a lot of fish. The best part was the turtle that came towards us, and our guide captured it so well. She told me later that she would like to be a National Geographic photographer for marine life; she does have stunning pictures on her Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/ha_867ru/?hl=en) page.

All the following pictures are from our snorkeling guide.
