"The decision will apply immediately to all Israelis who returned from abroad. However, it will apply to foreigners who have arrived in Israel at any point over the last two weeks only after 72 hours from the announcement."

What does that even mean? Most foreigners don't have a home to quarantine in.

Meaning you have to start quarantine on Thursday, irrelevant of when you arrived since Feb 27?
But if you are Israeli you need to quarantine immediately for arrivals since Feb 24?

Title: Re: Israel announces 14-day quarantine for all visitors from abroad
Post by: PlatinumGuy on March 09, 2020, 04:14:04 PM
A lot of fake news.

Thursday is irrelevant.

Quarantine applies immediately to anybody entering Israel hence forward. No distinction between tourists and residents. Anybody without capacity to quarantine will be denied entry.

There is no retroactive requirement to quarantine for people who are already in Israel (unless they were previously required by being in a high risk area like Italy, and China, but not USA)

They just want to make sure the country is empty of all foreigners when they announce the vaccine in a few days. Then there's no chance of anybody stealing it and taking the credit.

I really don't get fake news. Why is it so hard to read a simple statement from a minister and put it into an article. And if you aren't capable, why not just copy/paste

But UA84 delay is probably due to pax leaving the plane and needing their luggage.

Israel can afford to experiment with this, with it being such a small part of global commerce, and everything going down the drain either way.

What does this mean for travel insurance?
Normally they will allow you to cancel if government recommends 'all but essential travel'.
Here where it's the visiting country that has the issue, will they refund bookings for Airbnb and hotels?

Here's my working theory/hope --> if the rumors are true that the decision to impose a worldwide quarantine on all foreigners was based on the Israeli fears of upsetting the Americans (the initial plan was to add certain US cities only).... then, my theory is that in 2 weeks, they will start to *add* cities/countries that are exempt from the self imposed quarantine.  For those of us in Canada, if I'm correct then maybe some of us will be able to get to Israel for Pesach.

Obviously, the biggest hole in my theory is that getting to Toronto from any US city is easy -- so, my theory is so weak but it leaves me with some hope (1%) that my Pesach in Israel will still happen :)

But it does apply to prayer apparently. So a yeshiva can learn first seder with over 100 people in their beis medrash but then they can't daven mincha together at the end of seder?

So regardless of the fact if those brother's in laws to be were Israelis or foreigners they technically were required to quarantine based on what your brother was told. But crazy enough they got in scot free and I'm sure they were not the only ones.

Right, so you expect the police monitoring every single shul and shtiebel in popular areas to count every minyan and make sure that nobody walks in to a minyan that has 99 people?! Sounds kind of detached from reality.

I got a flight Sunday to South Africa. Returning in ten days. Then March 30 I got a LOT flight to ORD which has NOT been cancelled. Anyone know if this “self-quarantine” will prevent me from boarding that flight out of Israel to Chicago. Thanks

Any updates from non-Israeli passengers (or if you know of any) who arrived after 8 p.m. today to Israel with regard to quarantine?

Anyone know the exact protocol for a us citizen to prove ability to self quarantine? I was told you need to go to the Israeli consulate before going to Israel.

Anyone know the exact protocol for a us citizen to prove ability to self quarantine? I was told you need to go to the Israeli consulate before going to Israel.

Foreign travelers, including U.S. citizens, who wish to travel to Israel should request approval by contacting the Consular Department of the closest Israeli embassy or consulate five working days prior to the planned date of arrival with travel dates, flight information, and quarantine address. According to the Israeli Ministry of Health, in exceptional cases, one may apply to enter upon arrival subject to proof of the ability to remain in home isolation for 14 days. Travelers are not permitted to self-quarantine in a hotel or dormitory. The quarantine requirement also applies to Israeli citizens and residents, including dual U.S.-Israeli citizens. The Government of Israel is continually updating its travel restrictions and quarantine policies.
