Title: מי כעמך ישראל - Post your stories here
Post by: 12HRS on March 30, 2020, 01:19:09 AM
Lets talk about all the absolutely wonderful things that are being done in Klal Yisroel right now.

From the hundreds of volunteers to fill in for understaffed tomchei shabboses, to the $100k raised in 4 days to help a grocery store support families for pesach by customers adding just a little extra to their bill to help out another family.

From TorahAnytime being slow due to the overwhelming amount of shiurim being listened to online, to the top jewish entertainers all making time to brighten our kids day.

From our educators working hard to provide our kids with an education under incredibly trying circumstances, to a WhatsApp group that is finishing Tehillim multiple times daily as people continuously take time out of their day to daven for others.

From Dan and others for putting together an incredible starting pesach list, to everyone here who continually posts when something that people might need is in stock.

I will say it again מי כעמך ישראל and thank you Hashem for the opportunity to be part of such a wonderful nation.

Please share your stories here!

The Bnei Akiva in Israel have a project where each kid gets an older person to call (75+) each day to see how they are doing. They are also asked to speak to the person about life stories and to write it down. After this is all over they will be putting a book out with all the stories. I think this is amazing!

People who can negotiate sponsorship of this are doing double chessed, supporting both Hatzalah and struggling restaurants (someone else’s livelihood, which is the highest level of tzedakah)

My elderly relatives are isolated and a local hotline (Zeh Lozeh) had a kind volunteer deliver their necessities in a gracious, safe and efficient manner. Multiply this by a gaziliion, I’m sure they’re not the only beneficiaries.

What about all the people overseeing the food distributions at local schools?? These people are volunteers afaik, who have their own lives & own pre-pesach situation, and are spending hours prepping sandwiches, manning the crowds, and organizing food for our families.

No words. These are the people that are bringing Moshiach.

KIDDUSH HASHEM: Medtronic, the world’s largest manufacturer of medical equipment, is currently receiving large amounts of attention for its ventilator. This week, the CEO of the company's Israel division, Yaron Yitzhari, made the decision to release all of Medtronic’s patents for the production of ventilators, in order to enable any company wishing to manufacture them to use Medtronic’s blueprints, for free. Wasn’t he concerned about the potential loss of profit for his company, almost certain to run to the millions of dollars? “In the present situation, I’m proud to work at Medtronic,” he replies. “Our goal is to prolong lives – to save lives, in fact. This is what’s needed right now, in the emergency situation we’re in, and this consideration comes before everything else. These are unusual times, and they demand of us to act in unusual ways. So, when it comes to calculating the financial impact, it has negligible weight, because the main thing is saving lives, and that’s what our company knows how to do.”

Realistic time to market for someone with the manufacturing capacity and experience to start from scratch with these blueprints?

No idea if Israel actually deserves credit or if this is fake news, but Non-Israeli media isn't giving Israel the credit.
Seems unlikely that the CEO of the Israel division would have the ability to make a final decision like this, but perhaps he recommended it? Unclear what the actual story is.

Personal sacrifices. From a sheitel macher.

I am doing it for my family
I am doing for my entire family
My dearest Jews all over the world .
I dont want to sit anymore and hope that some jew somewhere will bring the karban we all need so badly !!!!
Instagram is my business space
It has brought me hundreds of clients
And tons of free pr
But isnt it Hashem who gives us the parnassa
Why would I think its been my work
My Instagram -gorgeous page . Its HASHEM
The same HASHEM that took away all my business from this week and possibly next
Thousands of dollars owed to me
From clients who cant get their wigs
I owe thousands to vendors
And its sitting mid air
But hey I have the best marketing skills
I have an attractive Instagram page
With zero work to show for myself

Rabbanim ask us to sit at home and think about where this corona virus has hit us
In my own home I have a lot to work on
And Im my other home my work -this is where I shall start .
Throwing away the Instagram famous page of xxxxxxxxxn
And giving it up as a Karban to Hashem
And at this moment I am bawling my eyes out davening
That Maybe because this is the most heart wrenching gut wrenching thing for me to do that this karban is big enough to take away this virus from klall yisroel
And bring Mashiach right away !!!!
Heal those who are sick !!
Bentch those who need parnassa !!!!
Give shalom bayis to each and every home !!!
Give children to parents who are begging !!!, parents should have pure nachas from their children always ! !!!

My plea is I beg HASHEM to continue to make me succesful , to continue to have people trust me although they dont see it on Instagram .
I want customers who are loyal , customers who appreciate me . And not the hype. I hope and i am sure Hashem can do that all , because He has been all this time .

All the teachers who are continuing to teach remotely by zoom or through whatsapp messages for those who don't have computers/enough computers in the home for the b'h number of kids in the family.

I know of an entire school of teachers who are teaching despite still waiting for their monthly paychecks for February.

School pays at the beginning of the month for the prior month and they have not gotten their checks despite teaching in classes until the Friday after Purim.

Still these Moros are giving daily lessons with smiles on their faces for all of the children in the school.

It's not a cost, it's a suggested donation. It's for people who would otherwise not have Matza, and most won't be paying a penny. It's not geared towards frum communities.

Wondered what was going to happen with the Mitzvah Tanks this year, hope they’re issuing strict social distancing guidance for their volunteers and providing PPE.

A local store delivered to me and the bochurim they hired did not have sufficient PPE (IMHO) and unnecessarily insisted on speaking to me even when I made my best effort to avoid it.

Half an hour? I imagine his DM box will be flooded with more requests than he can handle. Many of whom don’t have the info he needs in order to help them lined up. Done properly it might take him much longer than 30 minutes to help one person, let alone respond to all PMs.

If he’s willing and able to help I’m confident he’ll back back to you as soon as possible.

Over 100 Jews at Javits Center field hospital celebrate Passover thanks to OU-JLIC

Really hope this is true, last I heard before YT they weren't allowing any food in. In addition to the fact there aren't any outlets by the beds, so the patients have no way to charge their phones and be in touch with their family..

Quote
The students working on this initiative are part of OU-JLIC’s “Killing COVID with Kindness” global project. They worked with OU-JLIC Torah Educator Rabbi Joe Wolfson, an OU campus educator at New York University. The mission of the project is to facilitate chesed opportunities for college students during this fragile time when so many people are needy. OU-JLIC educators, Margot Botwinick at IDC-Herzliya (Israel) and Shiffy Friedman at Columbia University in Manhattan are also spearheading projects with their students.

“Seeking meaning, community and opportunities to help their brethren, our students in have attempted to make an impact on their community in New York throughout this period of uncertainty and we are extremely proud, not only their impact for these patients, but for all those they are helping,” said OU-JLIC Executive Director Rabbi Ilan Haber.

“These are extraordinary times and our OU-JLIC students and staff are extraordinary people. Perhaps what is most beautiful, is that the students are spending time that otherwise could have been spent in the safety of their homes to work together to help their fellow Jews in need,” said Orthodox Union Executive Vice President Allen Fagin.

“Kol Yisrael Areivim Ze La’Zeh, each and every one of us is responsible for another and in a time of uncertainty, these students and their actions are not only significant on their own but serve as a beacon for hope of the next generation of Jewish leaders helping to take care of our most vulnerable. On Passover we sing ‘Dayenu’ (it would have been enough) and perhaps what is most inspiring is that these students extended themselves even beyond their initial goals,” said Orthodox Union President Moishe Bane.

The Passover initiative was a partnership between OU-JLIC, its students, the Met Council and the New York Board of Rabbis which learned of the numbers and needs just days before the holiday set in.

Why would you think the story is inaccurate with all these quotes from the OU leadership?

Chinese Americans help Jewish organizations obtain protective equipment - Chinese-American groups return a Jewish message of solidarity by providing protective gear to agencies.

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/278779

The end of the article made this particularly appropriate for this thread

Quote
Haipei Shue, the president of United Chinese Americans, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that Chinese-American communities across the United States were scrambling to find PPE to distribute within their towns and cities.

“They know where to get them, where a lot of American organizations don’t know,” Shue said. “We probably have better sources, better connections.”

Making sure that a portion of those went to Jewish groups was an easy call, Shue said. He likened the closeness of the two communities to finding out in wartime who one’s true friends are.

“There are so many times that the Jewish community has shown up for us, this is really nothing,” he said.

My great uncle lives in CH, he was very sick with coronavirus as he said he was more oif yenne velt vi di velt (BH he is doing better). Hatzolah came to check up on him every day, he believes if they would have taken him to the hospital there is no way he would have made it.

Amazing generosity. Open account at the supermarket through the end of the Jewish calendar year for any COVID-19 widow with orphans in BP.

R' Frand told a story last night tied into a pasuk in Kedoshim. With permission I will post both the vort and the story below

Quote
R' Frand quoted a Ramban in Kedoshim on וְאָֽהַבְתָּ֥ לְרֵֽעֲךָ֖ כָּמ֑וֹךָ who writes that the pasuk cannot be understood simplistically. If this was true, then the Gemara which discusses two people travelling in the desert with one jug of water should require the person to give it away and not to drink it to preserve his own life.

R' Frand explained that וְאָֽהַבְתָּ֥ לְרֵֽעֲךָ֖ כָּמ֑וֹךָ is a lesson in how we should treat others and want good things to happen to others. A person should do for others and want for them as much as he wants for himself. A person can want his neighbor to have money or a nice house, "but I want my kids to be better than his" or "I want to be smarter." The Ramban explains that there is no carve out, a person should not want his friend to have it as good as him, except for...

R' Frand then mentioned that Mishpacha magazine had asked him his advice for people making the seder for the first time and he told them - teach your kids the songs at the end of the seder, the traditional niggunim of your family. R' Frand then stated that as he did not keep some of his father's minhagim - his father stood for all of kiddush, he sits at the bracha. His father stood for havdallah, he sits as they do in yeshiva. But he has his father's niggunim for the end of the seder as a mesorah. And he taught those to his children and they use them at their sedarim.

R' Frand next quoted a story from R' Fishel Gross about being sensitive for a neighbor's needs and wanting the best for them. A woman had lost her husband a few years prior, but she always had her children for the seder, so she was never alone. But this year as an older woman, she was home by herself for the seder. But her neighbors were sensitive to her plight - they moved their dining room table next to the window and told her to do the same. She was able to listen and participate in their seder, even though they were not in the same house.

After the Chag ended, her children called and asked how her sedarim were. Fantastic, she responded,  I was able to sing with the neighbors in their seder and they even sang the niggunim like daddy used to! I had a seder like we used to, when daddy was alive. But she did not know that the neighbor had called the children of the woman and recorded their niggunim and practiced them with the family so that they could sing them with her. This is being concerned for others and וְאָֽהַבְתָּ֥ לְרֵֽעֲךָ֖ כָּמ֑וֹךָ.

Same story, told a little better:

" SEDER STORY
An older couple recently moved to a senior citizen residence in Lakewood to be next to their children.  Sadly,  the man was niftar two years ago; the wife was grief stricken  and the next few years was very difficult for her.
Then, this year she discovered that she would have to quarantine for Pesach. Inconceivable!  Not to have her husband and now, not to be with any of her children! She had never spent a yom tov alone in her life.  She was inconsolable.

One of the neighbors found out about her distress. They called her up and told her since their units are so close to each other; the family would happily move their dining room table next to her open window and have the seder and you will be with us!
And so it happened.
After the first days were over, the woman called her children, bubbling over with joy.
She couldn't stop talking about what wonderful sedorim she had enjoyed. The best part was all the songs they sang.  This family had the same minhagim and exact  niggunim of her late husband. It brought her great comfort and happiness.
Little did she know, that this couple called each and every one of her children to hear the songs of their  late father.  The sons sang and sent it over through recorded messages.....which the family memorized for the seder night. "

Yasher Koach - I took notes on the shiur that Rabbi Frand said last night which incorporated a retelling of the story, but did not have access to the full story. Was that published somewhere?
