Can someone confirm that LX does not come with the fuel surcharge on Aeroplan? I don't want to transfer points and be hit with 1000.00 in surcharges.

very interesting if that's what it is.  sounds a bit fishy, but what else would explain the fact that it's still live after 3 days?? pretty unheard of for it not to have been fixed by now if it was an error.

AP agents tell you to place them on hold & call amex to do the transfer when they have a reservation ready to be booked
A few rep's told me this & that's what I did so its proabbly standard procedure
Just a shame the transfer bonus didn't come In time

2 questions:
1: I'm assuming this should be a legal routing, I just want to verify before I call:
EWR-CPH stop CPH-ZRH-TLV(dest)-ZRH-BRU stop BRU-EWR.
Correct?

2: This is a bigger favor, but is there anything leaving NY on 8/7 with a lie-flat seat into Europe on a non-YQ carrier and a flight to TLV from said city on 8/9?
I'm only finding LH flights (YQ) and SAS into CPH or TAP into Portugal.
Thanks!

I have the same question. Its clearly not more than the $90 change fee.
The reps keep on telling me changing after this promo is over will neccesiate adding points to the reg price

The thing is, I would already be paying to change my trip. I don't want to pay twice.
I have great flights now, but I'd like to tweak the dates a little. It seems that all business availability out of Europe is greatly diminished since last week!!!!! There are empty biz seats on the flights I want, but they aren't available. I have a feeling they won't be until AP ends this outrageous sale!!!

Look for availability thru another city. I.e. Instead of VIE-JFK, search VIA-ZRH-JFK or VIE-IAD-EWR
Use CO.com to find CO LH & UA & call to find SAS & LX

Search other american cities. LX flies from BOS, MIA, YUL to name a few... Hard to believe there's no CO/UA saverpass TATL on your dates.
BTW did you buy this tkt now or before the sale?
Title: Re: discount aeroplan tickets

Booked on the sale. Have UA and Swiss business EWR-ZUR-TLV 1/31-2/8. I want to switch to 1/25-2/5. The problem is getting back to the US. The only thing I have found is CO out of LHR, which requires an overnight in LHR or LH and OS.

per AP rep, if there's a business class award available later, you can call & upgrade to it for free. However this is only if its on the same exact flight -- I found a business class seat on the same day but different flight, & she wanted to charge $90 to UG it. Is this true or should I HUCA

I can take a coach seat on UA ZUR-EWR; CO TLV-EWR; or US TLV_PHL on Sunday 2/5. Anyone want to guess who is more likely to open business awards closer to the flight?

I'd bet on US, plus they have the nicest Business class

It's only the return TLV-NYC... I can get LX business out of TLV only until Zurich, with UA coach to EWR. Have to check if LX coach is available. Otherwise, CO and US have coach availability and business is not full, but no award seats now.
Title: Re: discount aeroplan tickets
Post by: PlatinumGuy on December 12, 2011, 11:42:28 AM
LX is harder for reps to book so make sure they don't lie about no seats.
I had a guy tell me their system was down, only for me to HUCA & get a tkt on LX
Also if your first leg is in Business you'll get business class luggage allowance all the way through, per this FT thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-canada-aeroplan/1228892-baggage-allowance-business-aeroplan-award-first-leg-economy.html

I am looking on ANA. No availability, but LX coach is available. So my choice is LX bus+coach with the chance of changing if it opens. Or the nonstops also in coach, with the chance of something opening. I am thinking that US to PHL is the less traveled route. Do they open up award seats later on?

Nice looking itinerary!!
I think I saw EWR-LON-BKK-MEL-SYD-SFO-EWR, with the stops being BKK and SYD, and the point of "turn around" being MEL?
$298 YQ if I read correctly.

I had an issue booking online, waited 15 mins for them to open up, and it was over  :-\

I was going to say, it was still working late last night. Fun while it lasted, particularly for those of us who got a good redemption out of it. Hopefully they do it again sometime soon.

AP has the worst PR possible.
After that carzy no-notice fuel surcharges debacle, they didn't advertise this amazing deal at all (while I keep on getting email about 25% transfer bonus, when this is worth much more)
They should really get their act together
Title: Re: discount aeroplan tickets

In the end, the people who are upset about the devaluation through fuel surcharges (mileage junkies), are the same people who would have known about this amazing promotion. And although us mileage junkies didn't know of a specific promotion expiration date, it lasted for 3 weeks. That was plenty of time for anyone to plan potential redemptions over the next few months to a year.
Title: Re: discount aeroplan tickets

Non-junkies are way more upset about the 'surcharges' than us, as they don't know some airlines still don't have it & won't know LX etc. Is available by phone only.
The CC miles industry is huge, & a lot of people have a cc just so they can use their miles for an annual free trip etc.
Had we known the Exp. Date, I couldve waited for the transfer bonus to post & not be stuck with 10k useless AP pts.
The whole idea that this seat sale covers up for fuel surcharges is pathetic... In 3 months we'll all forget about this sale & won't want to use AP because of pathetic 'surcharges'.
The only upside I see is that the CA gov't might outlaw these surcharges & then we won't have YQ on AC metal either

LX is well available online, i always found them on AC, although I never found them on CO.

Is this based on any source, or just your speculations.

At least it frequently doenst show up. (IME, only ANA is reliable) anyway the point is most people won't know how to avoid the bad airlines.

My fantasies would be more accurate :-(

I'd say many non-junkies wouldn't even be aware of the surcharges. Non-junkies are slowly being acclimated to having to pay absurd taxes and fees on award tickets - particularly in Canada. Non-junkies don't know that there are some creative ways of getting around these fees if you do your routing research.

But, I definitely agree that this sale doesn't make up for the new fuel surcharges. Although it does feel good to have gotten some great mileage redemptions over the past few weeks (and I'm sure it will feel even better when I'm travelling around the world in business class during the spring/summer).

On the FT thread, the maskana seems to be their partners, notably CIBC, were complaining of not enough availability, making the points worth less. They lowered the price to get people booking & show a higher figure of annual redemptions.
Had it been public, the shareholders/partners would know its an inaccurate statisic, hence all the privacy.

I figured all the junkies only book biz awards anyway, so it would just be a waste as non-junkies wouldn't know about it.
Do you have a better explanation?

I guess, but if they had Y tickets at half price I'd definitely book Y for expensive flights I just paid for like CLE-MCI or LAX.

This wasn't exactly half price.
Probably they wanted to show a high figure of miles redeemed, not (or at least not only) tickets booked. They wouldve done only F for J but that would be too much for most of us.

I am asking because i have a lot UR points, and wanted to know if i transfer them to continental and i find a ticket on any of the  *A for fewer miles would i still have to pay the con terms of mileage because con is booking it for me?

This sale is over, what does it have to do with ur booking?
What do u mean by 'I find a tkt on any of the *A for fewer miles'? SA availability is universal to all the partners. (Except for same-airline) the airline whose miles you're using determines the amount of miles needed.

UR miles don't transfer to so much airlines, so let's say i found a ticket by ANA for 90k and i call con to book it for me, would i have tp pay 120k etc, ??

you always need to book the price that the airline whose miles you are using charges so if ana charges 90k for one route and CO charges 120k if you are using CO miles then even if it is an ANA flight you would need to pay 120k

Saver/cheap availability should be the same throughout the entire alliance.
When you book, it all goes by what miles you want to use. If you want to book with CO miles, you pay CO rates.

so with UR points you could really never get a discount, because only Continental could book it and they would take the mileage they regular charge

Yup. Rep wanted another 55,000  :( that's for changing only one way. I'm gonna HUCA. It was a 4-leg itin on TLV-DFW so the rep had to call a specialized department to see if it was valid, maybe that was why they noticed.

After the 2d call I'm ready to go coach, but now they want me to change the return to coach too  >:(

UPDATE: a few phone calls later, and a stupid rep did it, or at least she claims I'm confirmed and booked  :) FT also says it's a YMMV (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/air-canada-aeroplan/1287558-business-awards-economy-miles-today-only-15.html)
