Google rolled out a new storage policy which says everything saved across your Google account, from Google Photos to Google Drive and Gmail, will count toward your 15gb limit.
After all these years of free Google services, we have so integrated them into our lives that most would probably be willing to pay a fee to continue using them.
Will there be any way to avoid the fee? Why couldn't you create endless Gmail accounts? Or save all your emails to outlook and delete them from Gmail?
-
Back in the good days, you were able to get 2GB extra ..
And only to clarify, gmail and drive does count against your 15gb, the big change is that now your photos will count as well. Except for Pixel holder.
Pixel 3 owner is still free till Jan 2022, and pixel 4/5 is free unlimited.
-
Is there a way to see how much storage I'm currently using that's not included in the 15gb's?

For now.
Just created an outlook account.
Microsoft is known for their backward compatiblity, while google is notorious for the opposite

It doesn't show the photos that don't take up storage. I have much more than .02 gb worth of photos saved.

Improper title and a improper assessment of the situation.
On a side note amazon has free unlimited storage with prime.

Google has the best AI when it comes to finding old pictures (or anythingfor that matter), I absolutely disagree.

My point was its moving in that direction. Not this year and not next but eventually we'll be paying Google a ransom to hold on to our 20 years of stuff.

Have you used other services?
I was surprised how well the built in lg gallery performs for a local app.

Nah I'd rather pay $2 a month.

While I'm not familiar with LGs I'm quite certain googles is better. Not to mention the fact that it isn't cloud based.

FTFY
So would I, and that's Google freedom to charge. Nothing is hostage.
FYI there's ways to get it for even less.

I will never pay for gmail, because as an early beta user from the early 2000's that hyped it up to everyone I knew, I won't forget how Gmail was marketed as a free email service where you will never have to delete another email again. 2gb really meant a lot in those days, I was even able to store my entire music library on gmail. Well, 17+ years and 10's of thousands of deleted emails later, gmail offers a measly 15gb and that includes data from other google services.
I'm no cheapskate, I happily pay for 10 mail accounts through Zoho, but I try my best to avoid giving my money to the lying, evil SJW bastards at google.
-
But those that ate uploaded already on high resolution will stay free, and won't count. ( for now)

Mind sharing ?

Every once in a while, I delete my large emails to make room. I search for size:15000000 which pulls up all emails 15 mb or larger. Then I review them and delete the one's that are not important.

Wish there was a way instead to purge all newsletter/promotion emails that clog up gmail storage with images of products and the like.

Search for "unsubscribe" should work pretty well.

Need to clear up space in your Google account?
In addition to your Google drive Gmail can use up quite some space.
On desktop, search larger:8M to get any email bigger then 8MB or search has:attachment for all emails with attachments.

You can easily search for all emails sent by a particular email and delete them, but the main emails that matter are the ones over a certain size.

I don’t mind getting rid of all of them, don’t want to have to keep searching for each sender one at a time.
Another issue with gmail is that if I forwarded something and it was a conversation, that entire conversation would ostensibly get deleted, when really I only want to delete the original email.

any way to delete more than 50 or 100 at a time?
Results can have max 100 emails AFAIK.

after you select all on one page, you may see a message at the top that asks if you want to select all the results

Create a filter using the search term and there will be an option on the second menu to apply to all existing emails.

I don’t actually subscribe and now with the promotions folder I don’t really care to unsubscribe.

To clarify the clarification.
Pixel 3 has unlimited original quality till Jan 2022. After that unlimited high quality.
All Pixel phones currently on the market will not be affected by the changes and will have unlimited high quality storage.

So if I buy a used pixel, and sign in my acct, and just put in storage, I will stay with free unlimited high quality?

It sounds like the upload had to be from the pixel

Why is that easier then searching "has:attachment" and deleting them all?

Why is that easier then searching "has:attachment" and deleting them all?
1. you get to save the attachments in an organized way to retrieve them later
2. you get to keep trail of the actual email with all information about the removed attachment (see screenshot)
