Title: Nicest Watch for $2000
Post by: dealvr on July 12, 2012, 04:30:55 PM
For now, looking mainly at Baume and Mercier - Classima.

Anything else worth checking out?
Where to buy?

Any and all help is very much appreciated.

Ashford doesn't have the one I want.

Wasn't into gold anyway, feel like that's for when you turn 50.

Nice but I'm more into the classic simple watches.

You might want to look into Phillip Stein watches. Very classy yet unique. http://philipstein.com/catalog/list.aspx?CCode=5165^Time&CCode=5166^Collections&CCode=5178^Prestige (http://philipstein.com/catalog/list.aspx?CCode=5165^Time&CCode=5166^Collections&CCode=5178^Prestige)

it is supposed to be scratch proof but it can be chipped if it is banged sharply or dropped from very high, (it is definitely not fragile, but i would not advise you to wear it every day)

An out of the box idea- do you need a new watch? You can get good vintage watches that still work great, and they cost much less than the new prices. For $2K you would be able to get into a different league of watches. Plus you said you like simple watches which might be a good fit.

I just got a vintage watch and am very happy with it.

I was considering that.
Where did you get yours?

I got mine from a shady place i would never recommend, was more of a pawn shop. I am happy with mine, but that might be luck. If you like simple watches I recommend the old Omegas (i got one) , IWCs and JLCs which you should be able to find some in your budget.

It says your location is in NY, a lot of watch stores in the diamond district (NYC) deal in vintage and there are also a few reputable stores:

You can try tourneau as they sell certified pre-owned, but you will be paying a big premium for the store name. If they have a sample sale (sometimes they have it at soifferhaskin) that would be preferable.
Ebay top sellers are good for this also.
