Welcome to DDF.

I'm paying the past few years for your program, although I'm really frustrated by the very selection of airlines supported for awards.

I was hoping for that to improve, but if it did, its way way to slow.

Please, please fix that !

Thanks a lot.

Thank you for your support SuperFlyer. We have consistently been adding award airlines since our launch 8 years ago, however this is largely governed by the airlines themselves so you should express to them your desire for them to have their award inventory in ExpertFlyer.

We do however have many exclusive features, such as Flight and Seat Alerts, as well as more depth in award and upgrade inventor for the airlines we do support (AA and DL upgrades for example) that are not available elsewhere.

Welcome aboard DDF!!

Thank you!

Why the cumbersome need to search awards one airline at a time?

Welcome!

Why the cumbersome need to search awards one airline at a time?

Most airlines have different award/upgrade classes with the same code having different meanings for different airlines. It allows us to offer robust searching for 1 airline instead of attempting a generic dumbed down search for multiple airlines.

You may also use various airline websites (UA/AC/ANA/QF/BA/AF/M&M) that have alliance search options if you feel that better fits your needs.

Welcome ExpertFlyer to the DDF community.
There is now also a DDF link to help support this site if you would like to signup for a membership to search for awards and upgrades (and be alerted of awards opening up!) on all of the airlines offered by EF:

I would find it more helpful if you would allow searching and viewing all available award classes for a few airlines at once. I would pay considerably more for such an option.

Very nice of you to give us advise, but for your notice most people here (including myself, paying for your service a few years) know how to search on airlines websites, and don't need your advise on searching airlines websites. they expect Expert Flyer to have that + a lot more.
Would be very nice to see expertflyer.com expanding

Then you know that ExpertFlyer gets its data primarily thru direct GDS access which has pros and cons. The Pro is it allows us to offer a web based service with unique features such as alerting. The con is that not all airlines publish award availability in the GDS. At that point it is up to the airlines to work with us on adding the data.  So instead of just asking us for more airlines, which we already know you want, please reach out to the airlines themselves and let them know why you want EF to have their award data. Thanks!

AF is blocking the outside world from seeing any O inventory on TATL flights prior to 6/1/2013. This has been reported by many to DL and AF and DL says they are working on it, but it is up to AF to un-hide the inventory.

You need to find a rep to do a long sell, not the easiest task.
US does starnet blocking on LH/LX.

If it's available from M&M it can be had with a long sell.

Interesting.

Used to be able to get US to long sell LH when it wasn't showing available to them, but of late, the few times I tried with UA, US to long sell LX they said its coming back unavailable...

There are a few differences though.

What’s interesting, though, is how they display space. On many airlines they’ll let you request the class of service, route, and date you want, and it will show you how many seats are available. Availability on Star Alliance carriers is a bit different in that you have to specify the number of seats you want and which cabins you want availability for while searching, and based on that it will give you a “Yes” or “No” answer on availability. In other words it doesn’t display how many seats are available, but rather only whether the number of seats you requested is available.

The attendee of the Chicago Seminars last month misunderstood our representative. Although we cannot comment on specific airline relationships, I can say ExpertFlyer is not screen scraping Star Alliance awards from the United.com website.

Those who don’t attend community events probably shouldn’t quote hearsay from them.

A very annoying thing about EF is the need to re-log in after a few minutes of inactivity. I mean this is not a bank or something. What's the worst that someone can do, delete an alert?

It's so annoying when I have a whole search set up, and I do something else for 10 minutes, and I can no longer use the search. KVS has a big plus over this (even though I am finding them less and less useful). I can open as many instances as I want, leave them open for weeks, and just cycle through each one and hit enter, and boom

The session timeout is 45 minutes, not 10. If you are really experiencing session timeouts after 10 minutes then your browser isn't holding the session cookie properly.

The timeout isn’t so much about security as it is about server resources. Currently, every open session requires resources on our back end servers.  This may change in the future but currently that is the case.

Singapore availability is just the availability they give for partners not their own.

Oh, so EF is just showing SQ partner availability?

If you do a Star Alliance award seach, it says that at the top of the results page.

However, that is not the issue here. Sometimes a flight won't be listed if there isn't any award inventory in any of the cabins. In that case, you can easily create a Flight Alert either from the Flight Availability results or by using the Create New Flight Alert page.

1) I didn't do a star alliance search, so I wouldn't have seen that (or would any of your other users who search for SQ availability for that matter)...

2) The flight shows available on SQ's website, so I'm not sure why you say that isn't the issue. The issue, as above, is that that there is no partner availability, and that's the only thing EF searches.

2) The flight shows available on SQ's website, so I'm not sure why you say that isn't the issue.

As noted before, SQ partner availability is a subset of availability given to their own Kris members.  The only source for that data is SQ.

So how would you convince people here that EF *A searches are not pulled of united.com?
If not a single search on EF (out of the over 100 I've done) has returned any better availability than united shows.

The only source for that data is SQ.
Or KVS

The Star Alliance inventory is not being screen scraped from the United.com website.  Beyond that we do not discuss our airline relationships or specific data sourcing.

Could be they're getting a feed from UA (or UA's source) that is the same as UA.com (as far as what's in the data), and might even go down with UA.com (if that's what has gone down), but isn't a screen scrape of UA.com, even if it's effectively the same data.

LH F availability from anyone other than Miles & More greater that 14 days before departure is generally inaccurate, as it is nonexistent.

Would it be possible to indicate which searches are alliance and which are airline searches. There is only 1 option for LX, and it's not clear if it's MM avail or *a. In addion is SQ/LH etc, *a avail or own avail (I know the answer, but it should be indicated)

At the top of the Award & Upgrade results page for LH and LX it clearly notes which it is (partner availability for LH and M&M availability for LX). You can also see LX partner inventory by selecting "Star Alliance" as the airline.

Emirates recently changed the Business Flex award from I to O class, the Business Saver Award is still D class, make sure you are using the correct one in your search.  We have updated ExpertFlyer to reflect the change.  In the future if you find a change before we do, please send us an email.

Somehow kayak.com, expedia.com and all big solid search engines know how to filter this, and when choosing direct it wouldn't come up with stops even though "That is how LY responded to your search query".

That's because they don't do searches like we do, which is why you are using ExpertFlyer to search for this data and not Kayak.  When you specify LY as the only airline, we do a direct connect search with the LY host, bypassing the GDS. Airline hosts tend to do what they want.  If you specify another airline in the search, or no airline at all, you will see the difference.

Maybe you don't. Premium adds to award searching
-Multi date searching
-Multi class award searching
-Flight Alerts - alert you when an award becomes available that currently isn't
-Award searching from the mobile version of EF

There is no additional package. Most people don't use 30 alerts, so that's why we offer the ability to buy individual alerts for those that may need more.

As we have mentioned before:
- If you have a question about your alert, please email us at customercare@expertflyer.com so we know who you are and can actually look up the alert.
- The alert system checks several times a day at least, but not every second. If you happen to find inventory between alert checks, that's great, but it doesn't mean there are any issues.
- You may have created the alert incorrectly.
- The alerts look at the segment by itself, if your manual search includes multiple segments then married segment logic comes into play.
- Did you run a Quick Check? That will tell you if the system will see the inventory when the next scheduled check occurs.

Why?

However, when searching for "O" availability for that flight, TG920 doesn't even appear, let alone appear and say "no" availability.

It does, however, appear on 5/19.

Why?

O class doesn't exist in as a paid ticket

I see that you cannot purchase an F ticket on that route (or at least I cannot bring it up on ITA matrix), but that route is operated by an A380, which definitely does have F seats.

Do they just keep it empty  ???

1) That wouldn't (shouldn't?) prevent the flight from showing up at all under award search; and

EF believes such things are not their problem:

That is how LY responded to your search query, we can only suggest the search paramaters to the airline in these cases, they can respond however they want.

Whenever EF says Yes/No it's pulled from UA award search. He insists he isnt scraping so I guess he has an agreement with UA.

Thats TG publisihing to Star Net, not to the GDS.

Youll notice when you search UA it doesnt return flights without availability, so EF doesnt either.

So why am I paying for EF instead of KVS if I cannot even set alerts for the flights I want?

I mean, if I have to manually search, why not go with KVS which has significantly more airlines? And presumably none of these issues?

I don't mean to provoke, but as a rational consumer, I'd curious.

ITA wipes out F on alot of SQ flight. no clue why.

For the Star Alliance award search airlines a flight may not be shown if there is no award availability in any cabin for the flight. You can still create a Flight Alert for the flight from the results page of the Flight Availability search or via the Create New Flight Alert page.

Please email us the next time you have a question at customercare@expertflyer.com or use the Contact Support link after logging in.

on my year end summary they are all listed in "other" category, not in "travel", so the answer in no.

On a side note off topic, I saw on my year end summary that all Aeroplan charges are considered "other retaill", and did not earn me 2 x points.

If you choose SWISS as the airline then please note what is posted at the top of the page:
"SWISS Award availability reflects availability for Miles & More members. Availability to members of partner airlines may be less. Select the "Star Alliance" airline to see partner availability."

Miles and more has physically more availability on LX and LH, but with LO they have the same availability, though United stopped showing them for some odd reason, but when you call in you can get any LO seats with united.com if you see them on any other *A search engine.

EF is telling you that only the first leg is available, hence why you can't find it anywhere...

EF is telling you that only the first leg is available, hence why you can't find it anywhere...
If you'd search SGN-CDG you'll find it on both DL and AF.
That makes a lot of sense, though why does it sometimes show a 0 instead of a blank space?

Because not every award/upgrade class is returned for all segments. AF in particular won't return an award class code for a segment if it's zero.

I think he's asking if it's the same airline, it should have the same award/upgrade class, so then why some show 0 and some not, CMIIAW.

Because the airline doesn't always assign every class class code for every flight.

There is a fixed number of flights that can be returned by the reservation system per search. If you want to see more, advance the time of day of the search to see later flights.

If you have further questions about how to use ExpertFlyer please email us at  customercare@expertflyer.com

Just got this email, not sure if this is old news or not, thought I'll share.

Dear xxxx,

As part of our continued partnership with American Airlines, we are pleased to announce that ExpertFlyer now supports full US Airways Award & Upgrade searching and alerting. The addition of awards and upgrades from US Airways operated flights will complement the existing American Airlines operated award/upgrade data already available to subscribers of ExpertFlyer. In addition Flight Alerts can now be created for award and upgrade inventory for US Airways operated flights.

The only source for CX award inventory is an airline website such as CX itself or JAL. Some services may screen scrape that data and try to resell it to you, but that's all it is. ExpertFlyer cannot scrape airline data in this way, however we recommend AwardNexus.com as it is also web based and has a free version.

Only airline websites (such as United.com and Star partners such as ANA.co.jp, Aeroplan and Life Miles) have that data. ANX scrapes the airline websites.

Yes, I know it's a GDS issue, and not EF's fault... but if you have any insight on the matter, or perhaps any tips on how to work around the problem so that EF alerts can still be useful for TK, I'd be much obliged. And if not... perhaps consider at least adding TK to the "not supported" list. :P

Please email us with specific search examples. TK has not been an issue and it may be a case of them holding back on partner award inventory. The same class codes would not be used for the saver vs standard award availability, it's likely a typo.

Sorry, I didn't mean that your system is slow. I meant to say that technically it is slow - probably because it only checks every hour or so, otherwise I have no other explanation but a lot of times Im waiting for inventory to open up - and I keep on checking for availability on my own as well and sometimes I see that specific fare class opens up andd it takes a while for EF to send that email out...

I really enjoy my EF subscription and Im not looking to criticize - just stating my experience.

different pros and cons. KVS definitly has more airlines for award availability (since they scrap the websites) however for the airlines that EF does show availability the search results are almost instant vs KVS. Also you can quickly check for availability for 7 days in a raw. One more thing EF has is regular revenue inventory access without any useless mobile availability tools....

You're talking about two different things. Yehuda was referring to the time between when he was notified about the availability and when he was able to act on it (which isn't affected by how often our system checks). You are referring to the time between inventory opening up and ExpertFlyer seeing it and sending out the notification (which is affected by how often our system checks).

As stated previously, the system checks alerts several times a day at minimum, more so as the date of the flight gets closer. Many times inventory that becomes available is immediately taken by the airline because of reassignments or waiting lists, which would cause the seat that was available 10 minutes ago not to be available now, especially if it's within a few days of departure.

If you leave the time of day at the default 12:00AM you get flights starting at the beginning of the day, you are not required to specify anything different.

"All" depends on the search/airline you are doing. Some airlines don't publish flights without award availability if you are referring to the award search. Others like AA show a couple with 0 and then no more, indicating they are all 0. The Help link on the A&U results page explains this.  If you are referring to Flight Availability, we show what the reservation system returns to us, which can be a max of 12 flight segments.

I am referring to AA awards and I will try 12:00am thanks. I have been searching over and over each hour or 2 of the day in order to see each option.

This does not work. For example search for LAX-JFK aug 20th AA economy milesaver and leave it at 12:00am you only see the 6am and 7am options (with no availability) then I change to 4pm and i see options around that time...very frustrating

It works correctly. Did you read the Help for that page, the AA section?

Sometimes American will return just two flights where the requested award seat availability is zero on both flights, even when there are later non-stop/direct flights scheduled. This is American's way of indicating that none of the later flights have available inventory for the request class either.

Do a general Flight Availability search, which will return all the flights, up to 12 per request, and then create the alert from there (you can enter any class in the class field of the create alert popup).

Why is it that when I search DXB-AMM, I don't even get the results page showing up  with all the flight options, thereby not being able to create an award opening alerts ?
On other itineraries, even if there are no seats available, the flight shows up, but the above itinerary doesn't. What gives ?!

What does an empty award search result have to with creating an award alert?
If there are no award classes available at all, the result will come back empty, but you can still go to "create flight alert" and set up an alert.

For MF Airline, EF has First - Award (F), Business - Award (C), Economy - Award (Y)

Meanwhile for most partners you need to book First into (A), Business into (O), and economy into (X).

Changes to Delta Data Visibility

Delta has requested that we no longer offer to you any information on ExpertFlyer pertaining to Delta. Since our inception almost 10 years ago we have accessed Delta information through a GDS where they publish information for the benefit of various travel providers. We have always done this with the full knowledge and tacit approval of Delta. However, there now appears to be a change of thinking at Delta where this is no longer the case. As a result, we will no longer display Delta information in any of our Tools, including Flight Availability, Upgrades, Seat Maps, Fare Information, Flights Status, Flight Details, and Flight Timetables. All Alerts of all types for Delta will be set to Expired as to not count against your active alert limit.
To be clear, this action is not unique to ExpertFlyer. Delta has recently been removing their data from many websites, both booking and non-booking, in an attempt to force as many travelers as possible to only use delta.com and their apps for Delta information. In our many conversations with Delta it was made clear to us that their new policy is that any service or website that is not explicitly authorized to show Delta data will be forced to stop, especially any that screen scrape data from Delta.com or any Delta partner or agency website.
Our many attempts to forge a new agreement for the display of this information on ExpertFlyer with Delta have been rejected. We believe, and have explained to them, that ExpertFlyer brought value to Delta's best customers and by extension to Delta itself. We hope in the future Delta will come to see the net value that ExpertFlyer gives to them as you have already discovered. Should you wish to express your thoughts on this matter to Delta, you can reach customer support here:

I have a question about interpreting EF info about Iberia.
The link in the wiki says that EF supports Iberia business class awards. It doesn't say anything about Y class awards.

When I look up IB5707 (which is the same as VY2019) on 21Aug on EF, I see:
Business - Award: U 2
ECONOMY: Y 9

Does this mean that there are 2 business award seats available?  Does Vueling even have J?
The flight is not showing up with any award availability on Iberia.com, though I was able to book 4 Y award seats on this very flight a few days ago.  I'm still hoping to grab one more.  (Yes, I posted about this in a separate thread, but I'm asking here specifically about interpreting EF.)

Thanks.

 Dear Maxie,

We're happy to announce that the previously missing DL data has been restored to ExpertFlyer. The only exception is that DL Upgrade inventory, which Delta is still not allowing access to, is not available. However regular fare class inventory/availability/alerting and all other searches (Seat Maps/Alerts, Fares, etc.) are available again for DL. This is in addition to the previously released low/saver-level DL Award inventory.

Please note, for the Flight Availability search, DL flights will only be returned when DL is the only airline specified in the search.

As a reminder, the full list of features of our Basic and Premium subscriptions can be found here: http://www.expertflyer.com/frequent-flyer-programs
Also the full list of supported Award & Upgrade airlines/classes for searching and alerting is available here: http://www.expertflyer.com/sessionlessClassList.do

If you encounter any issues or have questions about specific searches, please email us directly at customercare@expertflyer.com with the details about the search and results.

We hope that you find ExpertFlyer helpful in your travel planning. As always, thank you for your continued support of ExpertFlyer.

Super Saver - The lowest mileage Coach flight award.
Coach Saver - Available when Super Saver awards are not. Coach Saver awards may be purchased online only.
Coach Flex - Can be redeemed for travel on Hawaiian Airlines with twice the miles of a Super Saver award when both Super Saver and Saver awards are not available.
First/Business Saver - The lower mileage First/Business flight award.
First/Business Flex - Can be redeemed for travel on Hawaiian Airlines with twice the miles of a First/Business Saver award when a First/Business Saver award is not available.

Anyone know the fare codes for those to be plugged into expertflyer?

@ExpertFlyer Voice

Can you explain?

Available in F on UA.com:

But not showing on EF (and I've had an alert set for about a week):

@ExpertFlyer Voice

Can you explain?

Did you run an Award & Upgrade search? If so you will see the message "The date specified is before the minimum date supported by the airline. Please specify another date." LH award data isn't available within 4 days of the flight.

If you have further customer support questions please email customercare@expertflyer.com directly, thanks.

That's unfortunate. I'd say a large swath of their availability gets released in that time frame. Including these seats.

I just this post about expert flyer, can someone explain something to me.
Can't Matrix do the same thing as expert flyer just with out the alerts, why should I pay 4.99 a month for this service?

are there any free alternatives out there to be notified of seat availability?

Ef more or less is not free anymore, can only do a couple searches before being blocked.

You can do more than a couple on the Free account, the count resets every 24 hours. Also if your goal is to setup a Seat Alert, you only need 1 seat map search to set that up. If you need help with a specific flight please email us directly at customercare@

I always seem to be getting Phantom availability when searching MU business award and then trying to book with Delta.
Is Delta not able to book but it's there?

MU shows lots of phantom on delta.

Try checking on AF, if it's there bigger chance it's real

That I know, I know AF always is correct.

My question is why is EF even worse than DL?

My question is why is EF even worse than DL?

We show the same published data DL does, it's not "worse". If you want to give us a specific example, please email us directly.

Why don't you change it to show what AF shows? This way it would be more accurate.

Because we don't scrape data from the Air France website.

Is the Ethiopian award availability displayed on EF only available to their own FF members?
i.e. I'm seeing ton of availability on EF, but can't confirm on ANA or Aeroplan.

Yes it is partner inventory and will match what you see on ANA and AE. Please email us your specific example if you need further help.

For the benefit of the thread... The issue was that ET's data is in flux. Even on the ANA award search, if you just hit Refresh you get a different answer for the same search. We've seen this happen before when the airline host system and the reservation systems aren't communicating properly.

For UA states

United Airlines (UA)   I   Saver award: Business cabin on 3 cabin flights, First class on domestic 2 cabin flights

So will not find anything on the EWR-TLV route I guess

Why only 3 cabin?

What do you mean? I class is for Business on 3 cabin flights and O is First on 3 cabin flights. For 2 cabin domestic flights I class is the award class for the "First" cabin.

Lowest fair just means the lowest price for the search dates you put...

Eitherway, im not getting expertflyer to show any availability for anything with delta. If you can find one...let me know

Looks like Experflyer can only show availability for partner routes that are shown on Virgin Atlantic. So for example JFK-TLV would not work on Experflyer.

Just looking for a clearer definition. This availability is:
1) only bookable by elites
2) costs the flex rate, which can be much higher than classic/saver

Is that correct?

I thought this "elite space / special rates" was killed when the AF program changed on 6/1.
