Detailed fare class info when searching for flights.

Via Gary,

" ‘R’ is upgrade from coach to the next highest cabin (‘RN’ is the bucket that elites can use, generally the two buckets are equal)
‘ON’ is upgrade from business class to first class on 3-cabin planes
‘Y’ fare auto-upgrades to the next highest cabin (in complimentary upgrade markets) book into ‘JN’ while ‘B’ fare and ‘M’ fare auto-upgrades book into ‘PN’
Award tickets book into the standard Star Alliance buckets — X for coach, I for business, and O for first.
Elites get access to ‘XN’, ‘IN’, and ‘ON’ to the extent those will ever be greater than the standard X, I, and O.
Standard (spend more miles to buy out of capacity controls) awards book into HN, ZN, and FN respectively for coach, business, and first class. Since United no longer offers last seat availability to non-elites, there are special elite fare buckets here as well — YN, JN, and FN — for coach, business, and first class last seat availability. United Explorer credit card holders are supposed to have access to these along with elite members."

W0, S0, T0, L0, K0, G0, N0=No seats in these paid coach buckets.

Award/Upgrade buckets:
X0=No coach saver award seats for non-elites.
XN0=No coach saver award seats for elites or cardholders.
I9=At least 9 business saver award seats for non-elites.
IN9=At least 9 business saver award seats for Platinum, 1K, or GS elites.
HN9=At least 9 coach standard award seats.
ZN9=At least 9 business standard award seats.

JN9=At least 9 business standard elite/cardholders award seats.
R9=At least 9 seats upgradable to business using any upgrade instrument by non-elites.
RN9=At least 9 seats upgradable to business using any upgrade instrument by elites.
PN9=Not applicable as far as I know on BF flights?

Lol, just realize those numbers don't stack. 9's across the board can be wiped out with 9 seats sold.

Hi,
I'm using expert mode , searching lax>yul. Theses are the fares that show up:  Economy (V)
Available Cabins: F9, A9, P4, Y9, B9, M9, U9, H9, Q9, V9, W0, S0, T0, L0, K0

The flight is operated by AC which of the above fares would be equivalent to XN and IN?
Thank you.

I see the award for coach says X0 does that mean that there is no way that this flight will have saver awards?
If it doesn't how about the point that there are almost no paid economy tickets left?
Title: Re: UA Expert Mode

If you see a flight has no award seats whether you just simply looked it up as an award search or you checked it out in expert mode, is there a point of checking expert mode as the flight gets closer or could you just do a regular award search to see if anything opened up?

I don't see the benefit of expert mode in this case. Am I missing something?
Title: Re: UA Expert Mode

If they're only selling very expensive fares (Y/B) then it probably won't open for miles.
If they're selling lower fares then there's better odds.

Thanks, so that means it's still worth checking up on if they have the discounted fares now. They do have C, D, Z, and P right now, so I can keep hoping. :)

Just curious - how does pricing work for paid tickets? Besides for those fares, there are also J seats. How could someone search UA.com and be presented with a C fare instead of the J fare? i.e. Why would UA every show someone the C fare, when they still have J fare they want to sell?

You can search UA.com for any specific fare class but by default you'll get the cheapest.

In 2007 I figured out then when I searched for an H coach fare and used a discount cert that it would glitch and bump me into a D business class fare.

And thus was born my first BF flight.  Have the video doing it recorded somewhere. Fun times.

Not using this flight, but trying to make sense of Expert Mode...

5/24 has what looks like 1 LH F seat on EWR-FRA when searching for Saver award travel. But, when searching for price and looking at Expert Mode, these are the codes I get:

No, that's an accurate representation of the load on flight UA8838, operated by LH (LH 403).

If you're looking for more than 1 seat on that flight, I wouldn't hold my breath. Even 1 seat with F4 A4 is iffy.

P.S. You realize that flight is on shabbas?

Hmm but by searching for award availability, 1 seat shows up. Why doesn't it show up in EM as O1?

EM does not show partner award availability, classes O (F), I (J), or X (Y).

This is an LH-operated flight, code-shared by UA.

EM does not show partner award availability
Right, that was explained me to up above.
classes O (F), I (J), or X (Y).
From Dan's DDMS post, it seems like O could be shown:
Quote
2. On a United flight with 3 classes of service there are more letters to know about.
F is full fare paid first class. FN is a first class standard award. A is discounted paid first class. ON is upgrade space into first class. O is a saver first class award.

I read this
EM does not show partner award availability, classes O (F), I (J), or X (Y).
as EM can't show 1) Partner 2) Class O even on UA 3) Class I even on UA 4) Class X even on UA

Did I misread?
Title: Re: UA Expert Mode

Did I misread?

My that is a tortured reading of that statement.

The word "partner" modifies all that comes subsequent to it, including the dependent clause that follows the comma, which explains the independent clause that comes before it.

Thus, EM cannot show partner award class O, partner award class I, and partner award class X.

Thus, EM does not show LH F awards, LH J awards, or LH Y awards.

Thus, the only thing EM can be used for is UA awards/loads, and/or loads on partner-operated flights.

why is there only availability on the morning flight for Saver Award/12500 miles?

It is an Air Canada flight, and AJK indicated above that with partners, it does not show the same as with United's own flight. But is there any letter that indicates that it is or is not available to United to sell at a Saver Award level?
STLK are all paid seats, if i am understanding Dan's post.

I have a RT ticket one way is W class and one way is H. When I check my reservation online I don't have the option of changing seats (and even not to take an economy comfort seat).

I called up United to try to upgraded miles+$ but I got confused answers from the reps, one rep told me that it's a bulk ticket etc. one rep told me that i am able.

Are these classes upgradeble ?

Check the website for the upgrade rules, W/H has different amount of points + co-pays for the upgrade, plus there needs to be upgrade space

Don't need Expert mode for that. You can see on the seat maps.
All LAX-JFK are PS. No LAX-EWR are PS. (That changes in October.)
There are 2-3 LAX-EWR flights that have lie-flat business class, but they are not PS. You can tell which ones they are either by looking at the aircraft (757-200 is lie flat) or by looking at the seat map.

For some visuals:
This is a current EWR-LAX flight. It has lie flat, but it's not P.S.

Probably a marketing gimmick to show that they have "Insider fares" too.

I'm looking at a flight that is showing 1 saver business award flight. Where is that indicated in the codes? Does it not show up on partner flights?

Operated By South African Airways

Depart JFK: Tue, Apr 17
Arrive JNB: Wed, Apr 18

And now UA is not showing fare buckets but Partner fare buckets are showing. Any rhyme or reason to this?

In my first foray into UA expert mode, I've found some thing perplexing:
When searching award EWR-TLV (7/1), United will give me one seat on the 4:59pm EWR-SFO, and 3 seats on the 3:05pm EWR-SFO, both connecting on the 9:30pm to TLV. However, when I look up those EWR-SFO legs in expert mode, they both show XN0 and X0, which tells me there is zero saver availability.
Am I missing something?

Some segments must be married, some can't be married. Becoming more and more common on awards with all airlines.

Does this make sense?

Available fare classes:Y9 YN0 B9 M9 E9 U9 H9 HN0 Q9 V9 W9 S9 T9 L9 K9G9 N9 XN0 X9

Saver class available only for non-elites or non cardholders?

ETA: I logged out and now the flight is available. Hmmm... this is an Amtrack ZFV-EWR.  Interesting that they show the award code of a 'partner' Amtrak.

ZFV showed more availability than from EWR directly?

Email from United Airlines on Thursday
Quote
As we get ready for United® Premium Plus, we’re making some system changes.
Starting the evening of Friday, October 19, into the early hours of Saturday, October 20, we are realigning some premium booking codes and discontinuing the use of others to prepare for the launch of  United® Premium Plus. This will impact flight schedules, availability and PNRs for travel on/after Monday, October 22.

As a result, between October 19 at 5:00 p.m. CT and 1:00 a.m. CT on October 20, for travel on/after October 22, seat maps will be unavailable and seats cannot be assigned  by agencies or United (reservations airports, united.com, etc.). Similar to a schedule change, a GDS response message will indicate that seat maps are unavailable. Times are subject to change.

We apologize for the inconvenience and ask that you view seat maps and assign seats after the times listed above.

As part of this change, we will also officially stop offering United Polaris® first class as a separate cabin from United Polaris business class.
Premium cabin booking codes for United domestic and international flights will be as follows:
Revenue:  J, C, D, Z, P
Award:     JN, ZN, IN, I
Upgrade:  PN, PZ
