I would choose the system wide upgrades.
But if you're not planning to travel on a route that it would be necessary, you can always gift me status.

+1, terrible choice.

Def gift gold (assuming he's diamond).

Depends if I could find someone who wanted status badly enough and if it's silver or gold.

Are all SWU so bad or just DL?

DL is the worst IIRC, AA is the best.

DL is the worst.
UA has some restrictions.
AA has no restrictions.

If hes Diamond, he gets two free gifts (when hitting Diamond), IIRC, so I'd take 25K DL and either $200 DL voucher or gift gold.

Either way, he's hitting Platinum, and one gift, so I'd take either 20K DL or gift silver if its kdai.

platinum not diamond if that helps - and is it one per year / calander year? one in dec and one in jan?

I have until Feb 28th to choose my Year 2014 Platinum choice benefit, any one here have any thoughts on what the best option is?

Here's what they're offering now:

 - 4 Regional Upgrade Certificates (Work on all flights that are all eligible for Comp Medallion U/G i.e. Flights with First not BusinessElite - soon to be DeltaOne)
 - Global Entry Application Voucher
 - 4 Sky Club One Day Passes
 - 20K Bonus Skymiles
 - Gift Silver Medallion Status
 - $200 DL Voucher
 - $200 Tiffany & Co. Giftcard

I already have Global Entry, my AMEX Plat already gets me into Sky Clubs, the Silver Medallion status would end on 2/28/15 even if I gift it today, and I have no use for $200 at Tiffany, so those are all out.

The question is really do I go for the 4 upgrade certs or the 20K bonus miles. I have about 190K DL miles right now, and for the 2015 year I don't have status yet. Hmmm....?

Unless you can sell someone the silver status for more than $200 I'd take 20k

FTFY

Nope. I was correct in what I wrote. Because I am choosing my benefit for the 2014 Medallion Year, if I gift someone Silver today, it would only last for a month until the 2014 Medallion Year benefits end on 2/28/15.

Why are you choosing them so late in the game?

I didn't have anyone to gift the silver to, and that was the only that became less valuable with time. The Upgrade Certs and $200 Credit expire one year after issue, so in case I decided to go with one of those, I figured I wouldn't have them issued until either I had a use for it, or I ran out of time. Make sense?
