Israel's Agora is worth alot less than a penny.

If they would discontinue the penny, they would have to make a 2 or 3 cent coin.

I was just trying to keep the topic orderly. He had posted something about the previous fact, so I figured i'd post the next fact after that to keep a bit of order instead of it being mishgebabled. But every single time I moved the "fact", he moved his previous comment too.
Some people just don't grow up  ::)

Why the U.S. Penny Won't Die Like Canada's Just Did  (http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-03-30/why-the-u-dot-s-dot-penny-wont-die-like-canadas-just-did)

In the US
There are objections to rounding, which one economist estimated could cost U.S. consumers as much as $1.5 billion over five years. Also, cutting out the penny may just put more reliance on the nickel—which is even more expensive to produce.

According to the Coin Update "The U.S. loses 1.4¢ on each penny it makes and 6.2¢ on each nickel".

More Penny facts. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-18586854)

There are 150 Billion pennies in circulation (makes one wonder why they still need to produce them)
Piled high they would stretch 60% to the moon

Good.  Get rid of both of them.

What do you do with the cost to US consumers when inevitably things will be rounded up, to the consumers disadvantage.

On the flip side though, US consumers might actually save, being than nothing would have the .99 gimmick any more and the price would be more clear.

On the other flip side though, if consumers would spend less because prices are more clear than what cost would that have on the economy as a whole.

Australia has been rounding to the nearest 5c for years. I can't say that the economy is suffering...
And once you get used to it, fumbling around with pennies when in the US seems so ... petty.

But if you have a toast sitting on a table butter face up, and it slides off, it'll usually fall butter side down.

…and even worse it is chocolate ice cream he does not like.
Reminds me of an email I got around the 2008 elections:
Quote
In honor of the 44th President of the United States , Ben & Jerry's has introduced a new flavor: "Barocky Road."

Barocky Road is a blend of half vanilla, half chocolate, and surrounded by nuts and flakes.

The vanilla portion of the mix is not openly advertised and usually denied as an ingredient.

The nuts and flakes are all very bitter and hard to swallow.

The cost is $100.00 per scoop.

When purchased it will be presented to you in a large beautiful cone, but then the ice cream is taken away and given to the person in line behind you.

You are left with an empty wallet and no change, holding an empty cone with no hope of getting any ice cream.

Are you stimulated?

Haven't verified this, but:

"In the family tree of Kate Middleton, wife of Prince William, Kate's mother is Carol Middleton, daughter of Ronald Goldsmith and Dorothy Harrison (both Jews).

The parents of Dorothy Harrison are Robert Harrison and Elizabeth Temple (both Jews).

Elizabeth Temple is a descendant of the Myers family, English Jews in the 19th century.

BOTTOM LINE: Princess Kate is a Jew on her matriarchal side. The future king of England will be a Jew according to Jewish Law."

They did look into the yichus, and they found that for the past 5 genrations the family got married in churches. If there was jewish yichus it's highly doubtful it's still there.  Additionally I don't think that kate's mother's mother was jewish, just the father.

If you don't make a deal you still give up 5%. It's worth it for many companies. Being on the show can be millions of dollars worth of advertisement.

IIRC, you can choose between 5% or a 2% royalty.

It seems like even if there is no deal. My first impression was that's a crazy rip off, but it is advertising/promotion. On the update they've brought back people who didn't get a deal and their businesses were booming just from the exposure

A side affect of Progesterone is fatigue. Hashem made it that progesterone helps maintain the endometrial tissue, which in turn helps keep the baby connected to the mother until the placenta takes over which is at about 3 months.

Most statistics look at the overall risk of lung cancer, combining both people who smoke and those who have  never smoked. Based on United States statistics, the lifetime risk that an individual (men and women combined) will develop lung cancer is 6.9%, or 1 in 13 people. Clearly this number would be higher for people who smoke and much lower for people who have never

Studies in other countries have broken down the risk further to differentiate between never smokers, former smokers, and current smokers.

In a 2006 European study, the risk of developing

0.2% for men who never smoked

5.5% for male former smokers

15.9% for current male smokers

24.4% for male “heavy smokers” defined as smoking more than 5 cigarettes per day (18.5% for women)

Not wearing a seatbelt doesn't attribute to death, driving dangerously does.
Not wearing a seatbelt means that you have less of a chance of preventing the death.

Did you know that Pope Stephen VI  had his predecessor (Pope Formosus, the one before Bonface VI) exhumed from his grave, brought into court, and tried for various crimes. The corpse was found guilty, his three blessing fingers were hacked off and all ordinations performed by Formosus were annulled as punishment. He was then reburied before he was dug up once again in order to be thrown into the Tiber. Eventually Pope Stephen VI was himself imprisoned and strangled to death.

actually read this in an army survival manual: urine coming out of your body is sterile. What this means in practical terms is that if you're stuck in a survival situation with an open wound, you're better off cleaning it with fresh urine than with water from an unknown stream.

They actually do take a lot of money, police presence is very much needed for every protest which happens daily (thank you Mirer boys..) They have lots of children vs secular Israelis that have 2 kid and a dog. They do get money from the gov for schools, and unlike the secular Israelis they don't pay taxes because most don't work.
The money they get to help educate themselves in yeshiva never comes back to the economy, unlike the secular Israeli that use the education to get jobs that will help the economy.

No one is mattir if one bleeds during brushing.
practically speaking, since all other poskim asser and its a sheila of Sechita, memachek- (both skeilah) and a sheilah of uvdeh dechol. Combined with the fact that "kosher for Shabbos" toothbrushes and "paste" are readily available, its not nogeya.

Did you know that if someone says that such and such a rabbi is mattir something, that most probably means that everyone else assurs.

For example, if someone says "Did you know that Rabbi Yosef Dov Halevi Soloveitchik zt’l and Rabbi Herschel Schachter permit one to brush their teeth on Shabbos with a wet toothbrush and toothpaste, and allow you wash the toothbrush after brushing?" (besides for this being highly inaccurate) this also means that it's a big "chiddush" and that most likely every other rabbi forbids this.

Then if you would want to represent that as a fraction you would say that 3/4 of the people in the group spend their lives arguing on DDF.

Yes, and I know a guy who got hired for a government job. In the interview the boss saw he had served in the army and was injured. "What was your injury?" he asked. The guy said he got his inyanim (b--tzim) blown off. The boss said, "Okay, you start Monday. Hours are 9 to 5. Come in at 11am." The guy says, "Why 11am?" The boss says, "Because the first two hours everyone just stands around oon m'kratzt di eyer. Obviously you can't take part in that."

    IN EVENT OF MOON DISASTER:

Fate has ordained that the men who went to the moon to explore in peace will stay on the moon to rest in peace.

These brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin, know that there is no hope for their recovery. But they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice.

These two men are laying down their lives in mankind's most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding.

They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by the nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.

In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man.

In ancient days, men looked at the stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same, but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood.

Others will follow, and surely find their way home. Man's search will not be denied. But these men were the first, and they will remain the foremost in our hearts.

For every human being who looks up at the moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.

    PRIOR TO THE PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT:

The President should telephone each of the widows-to-be.

AFTER THE PRESIDENT'S STATEMENT, AT THE POINT WHEN NASA ENDS COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE MEN:

A clergyman should adopt the same procedure as a burial at sea, commending their souls to "the deepest of the deep," concluding with the Lord's Prayer.

Fascinating! I can just wonder if this was perhaps the only speech prepared. The idea of a successful moon landing was so farfetched (at the time) that I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't anticipate success. That's just my personal feeling (obviously).

For background on this story see here (https://xkcd.com/723/):

Gerson Goldhaber, a physicist at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, was talking on the phone with another physicist at SLAC near Stanford University near the end of the day on Tuesday, October 17, 1989. The SLAC physicist suddenly interrupted with, “Gerson, I have to go! There’s a very big earthquake happening!” and then hung up. So Gerson stepped out into a group of people in the hall, made a big show of yawning and checking his watch, then said, “Aren’t we about due for an earthquake?” Before anyone could respond, the Loma Prieta earthquake reached Berkeley, and he became a legend.

Known as NFPA 291, it says fire hydrants using public water supply systems should be painted chrome yellow, and their tops and caps should indicate the available GPM. Below 500GPM should be red, 500-999 GPM should be orange, 1000-1499 GPM should be green, and 1500 GPM or more should be blue.
