The T&C says "Offer not available to existing Starwood Preferred Guest (Business) Credit Cardmembers. "

What if my wife currently does not have any spg cards that she is primary on?
I closed hers to avoid the annual fee and was going to reopen soon. So technically, she is not an "existing" cardmember.

If her being an additional cardholder makes her an "existing" cardmember, i could always cancel those cards real quick.

Looking at the regular application, the T&C are differant. They state: "Bonus Starpoints are for first-time Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Cardmembers only. Bonus Starpoints can only be received once per Cardmember, regardless of the number of Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card accounts the Cardmember may have or had."

Thoughts?

Thanks!!!!! I just applied and got approved! This is my first cc here in the US (I'm an additional on my wife's on all the others) so it's a good way to start..... :) :)

I hope that being additional on my wife's spg won't be a problem though......

yep, its normal to get the 14 day notice. If not approved, you'll get a letter telling why, and a number to call to ask or appeal.  Many times, it 's an issue of AMEX not wanting to extend too much credit - you may want to close another account or transfer credit line to make room for this.  FYI A single credit inquiry usually costs between 2-10 points on your FICO score- usually 3 to 4 if you haven't had a lot of hard inquiries in the last 2 years (a lot being more than 7).  Creditkarma.com is free and has a simulator that estimates the effect of a single hard credit pull on your score.

This is the best deal that's ever been put out for SPG point accumulation. Usually it's not churnable.

I'm sorry I wasn't so clear.  I have a near perfect credit, yet sometimes they don't accept an application for one reason or another.  I would like to know, is there anyway to argue their decision, and than be able to receive this offer?

I plan to open the personal and business cards again for the wife.

Would it be advisable to cancel her current spg card which is an additional card on my account? Any thoughts?

Would being an additional cardholder on an account be considered an "existing Starwood Preferred Guest (Business) Credit Cardmember"?

I had a situation with Chase were they closed down all my cards and the letters stated many varied (and bogus) reasons. When I called chase and argued each reason with them, they finally admitted that it was none of those reasons and their real concern was my overabundance of credit all together. They said if I close down a nice amount they will reopen my accounts (which of course I did not do).

Point is when you speak to them you may find out whats really bothering them. People do get results sometimes with calling and being persistent. No guaranty it would work, but it's worth a try.

Personally, after my F/R which I passed, I don't play much with my AMEX cards because their too good to lose.

I signed up for the business card with my regular SPG number and I am getting points on it, so you should not need to open a new account

yes you can use the same spg number.

I also signed up again. Hopefully we get the sign up bonus as we are not "existing" cardholders. I plan to put up quite the fight if they try to avoid giving us the points.

I wasnt gonna do this 1 as I just got 3 other CCs and had a Amex FR a few months ago which I refused to send my info in and they cut me from $50k to $25k. But figured what the hay. After submitting it I got the wed contact you within 14 days.

Ok a no-go cant blame them as I had this card a few yrs ago and still have the Biz one

well my door bell just rang and it was UPS with an Overnight envelope yep my new Amex Personal SPG card. Now to spend the $1000 and see how many if any of the 30k they give me

well looks like I have to help the Mint circulate some of their coins otherwise I wont end up getting the bonuses on my 3 new CCs

Guess it doesnt pay to try and figure these things out as Im at a TOTAL LOSS to understand how they can cut 1 card I have and then go ahead and give me a new card with additional Credit

Use the free AMEX GC workaround (http://www.dansdeals.com/forums/index.php?topic=2422.0) for the Mint if you are looking to avoid another FR.

Thanks, I have a few bills up coming in the next couple of months that goes a long way, and its been a long time since Ive played with the coins

I was gonna use my Marriott CC for another MR GC $908.50 has a face value of $1000 as the MR CC gives 5 pts per $1 when its a Mariott charge, as nice as it is to get another 4543 MR pts Im not running out of them any time soon. Whats good is with this link (hopefully its not against the T&Cs since its straight to Marriotts site) you get 1000 USAir miles which till 7/31 = 1500 miles and a good way to save from having to cash in more then 60k of SPG pts towards the 120k needed for a Biz tkt to TLV; https://www.marriottvacationcardoffer.com/usairways

Of cause this GC is good ONLY at Marriott properties and cant be used anywhere else, so if you dont stay at Marriotts then it probably doesnt apply to you

Can anyone who has managed to get an spg sign up bonus more than once answer this?

When you log in to see ur account  online, does it show on top "member since 2010"? or does it show "member since X", where X is the year you got your first amex card.

I just signed my wife up for another card and when i log into the new account using a new login user ID, it shows "member since 2008" which was the first year she ever had an amex card

Nope, no problem at all, both my wife and myself signed up for both personal and Biz linked to the same spg account (1 for her and 1 for myself) and all points posted to the accounts without a problem. This was when we first signed up back in 2008 but nothing changed since then as far as I am aware of.

I figured I'd share my experience...

Applied for a personal card for my wife and was approved on the spot, they even gave me the full credit card number, expiration etc.
The page stated that I have a temporary limit of $1500 to use ONLY on SPG products until my card arrives in the mail, and once it arrives, I will have the real credit limit for any kind of purchase.

Anyone else have this?
Thoughts?

The answer is yes.
Additional user is basically just an authorized user on the account. You can make your dog an additional on your card if you want, obviously it would be harder to sign a dog up as a new cardmember....

Is that necessarily a good/bad sign...? Like getting a higher CL or something. Is it a sign of good or bad credit?
How do they decide who to give the temporary CL on SPG prod. and who not?

??  not so fast although you may have ordered $2500x2 the max is $1000 per address every 10 days and the 10 days are counted  from when they confirm the order and I believe get the funds from the CC used.

Be prepared for either them CXing the whole order or cutting it down to $1000 and if you used the same address that should be $1000 x 1 Only

Be prepared for either them CXing the whole order or cutting it down to $1000 and if you used the same address that should be $1000 x 1 Only

You'll also earn 1 Starpoint on all your everyday purchases, such as gas and groceries. 4 To start getting more Starpoints for your next getaway, apply by 07/31/2010. Sincerely, The Starwood Preferred Guest program . P.S. Pay no annual fee for the first year.

Offer expires 07/31/2010. Eligible purchases do not include cash and cash-equivalent transactions (including balance transfers, convenience checks and cash advances), interest charges, fees and purchase credit adjustments.

Anyone else get it? Is it targeted?
I've had my first CC for barely a couple months, is it worth my time filling in the forms?

I would go for it!
My first Amex card came from an offer they sent me. At the time I had no open CC's at all!

And I truly do like the way AMEX calls you "aussiebochur"  ;).

Not sure you really should be afraid of a F/R if you dont even have a card open with them. Max is they'll take it away and your back we're you started. And again, they are offering it to you vs. you applying for it.

although I agree with You that he should Go for it, I disagree with you about them sending it and his not asking

Plenty of people get targeted and receive Pre Approved letters, which really are anything but that. Ive read posts elsewhere where those who received such letters and applied were in the end Denied a CC even thou they were told they were Pre-Approved

So in the end it seems it doesnt make a difference to the Issuer and they all see it as if there was nothing sent to the person and handle it as if the person is applying on their own, just some very cute way to get someone to actually go ahead and apply in the end

Probably not from a low limit secured card.
Get yourself some store cards, spend money on them each month (even just $1), pay them off, wait half a year, and then you can probably get one.
It take a few months for some cards to even start reporting to the agencies.

Could it be because people are buying large amounts from the mint right away? Or are these people who didn't even get a chance to make a purchase yet?

Would it be better to spend the $1000 in day-to-day purchases than at the mint?

Also, I heard something about the fact that the very first purchase on a new CC shouldn't be done online... True or false?

Dan reckons its not a big chance at all.

It's possible just like any churning is always possible because things slip through the cracks or you can make a big fight over it.

But generally speaking it's not officially churnable if you've ever earned the bonus.

My thoughts are that its a different bonus and the T&C are different in that it says you cant be an "existing Starwood Preferred Guest (Business) Credit Cardmember"

If you're applying for a business card then you couldn't have had a business one before.
If you're applying for a personal card then you couldn't have had a personal one before.

It's the same credit card.
It's always possible for a churn to go thorugh, unlike 4 years ago though it's always a YMMV these days.

Yes and no. I had a BoA for about 4 months, then closed. This was my first card. About 9 months later i responded to the AMEX delta card offer and was approved, this after BoA refused to reopen my account.

Same happened with me on other cards.
But as someone recently said, in order to get a loan from the bank, you have to first prove you don't need it...
I do think there is a difference when they come after you and you innocently respond vs. you requesting the card from them. You never know though with this game.

Is that a problem?
It just means the date since she joined the AMEX family of credit cards.

However... I did read somewhere that Amex reports any Amex card (even new ones) as if it was opened the year when the oldest Amex card was opened.
Checked my Quizzle report and that didn't seem to be true, but there were other inaccuracies as well...

I can confirm that for my 30K spg business card, 2 days ago the 40K bonus posted. 30K plus another 10K "open" bonus. No complaining here...

Hmmm, so maybe it's 30K for personal and 40K for business?

I already had a personal SPG with Amex and didn't want to push my luck with them (don't want to risk another F?R), maybe I should have...

It's possible... based on the news we're hearing...

I personally got 41,147 SPG points on my first statement after spending $1147 so i can confirm yes it was apparently 30k bonus on top of the 10k usual bonus!!! And btw this was my second Starwood Business AMEX (first was closed after financial review, too many coins from the mint i guess  ;))

I did open up a new SPG account and put that number on the application just in case, below i added a screenshot for proof!!

I hope you guys got in  on this offer because it was incredible!!!  ;D ;D ;D

You might still be able to get it.
Originally when the offer was dying on the 6th., I called the phone application center to ask them a question, obviously the rep. had no clue about the 30.000 link but told me that at the time they had the 30.000 offer available until the 10th...
It might be worth giving them a call...

So maybe my hunch is correct, and it is 40K for business.

You mean the hunch that it's only 30K for personal? Maybe it's 40K for both. What leads you to believe that since the business is 40K that must mean that the personal is 30K and not 40K?

I was just responding to your quote from a commenter on another blog who said that he had heard that you would get 40K for the card.

If people are getting 40K that's great, but that original comment wasn't enough to convince me.

Even wierder thing happened today than me getting 40k from the New Business Account Opening.  Before I applied for my new AMEX Biz card I had opened a second SPG account just in case that would work better to get my bonus even though I was technically churning the card, being that it was my second Starwood Business Card although the first was has been closed for a year.

So yesterday I went online to SPG.com and clicked "merge duplicate SPG accounts" filled out the form and then today I received E-mail saying the merge was complete and gave me by new balance which was 10,000 points more than I knew I had combined between the two accounts, sure enough I received a 10k Starwood pts bonus from AMEX on my old SPG number and I have no clue what it is from.  Well hey I guess I can't complain.  The description of the bonus is: SPG AX LOYALTY BONUS OPEN-ALL If anyone knows what that bonus might be from let me know, I have included a screenshot below.

Nice!
I opened both cards for my wife, 1st time for both, she didn't have a *wood acct., called *wood after I got the cards before I even started spending to keep just one Starwood number since they created two separate ones for each card... guess I shouldn't have done it...
I already spent $1000 on the personal card, nothing on the biz. Haven't checked on my *wood balance yet, practicing "hesech hadaas" for good things to come...

Woohoo! Got 40k on the business card. 10k came after the statement closed the first month (without having spent 1k). 2nd month just closed (1k spending threshold met) and got another 30k! Hoping they do this promo again. Id close my (wifes  ;D) spg cards any day to sign up again and get 70k or even 60k.

A have a simpler solution; upload the PDF to Google docs, make it shareable with a link and post the link here.

(PS in my last post I meant imageshack.us (http://imageshack.us). You just upload your pic with free hosting and no sign in)

I would fight on that one. The terms clearly state that as long as you are not a "current" cardholder, you are eligible. I would call and ask for supervisor after supervisor until i got it. dont give up!

I did. Opened the card in MArch 2010, got the 15K extra and they just credited me 20K for that summer promotion that I had missed. Granted that I spent $50K on card and gave them guilt trip that annual fee went up to $65.

SM for a card opened around 2005 or so and got 5K points as goodwill.
I wonder if I'll still get the 5K retention bonus I usually get around renewal time.

Hey Dan, thanks for the Secure Message info yesterday. I opened the Starwood Card in '07. I successfully got this message back today.

Good morning Daniel,

I received your email regarding a Promotional Offer and I will be delighted to assist you!

We value your membership and as courtesy I have credited your Starwood Member account with the additional 20,000 bonus points. The promotion offered 30,000 bonus points and you already received 10,000. Please allow 24-48 hours for the points to update in your account and then you may log on to SPG.com and verify.

It's been a pleasure to assist you. We appreciate your Cardmembership since 2007 and we look forward to serving you in the future.
Sincerely, Karl Campbell Email Servicing Team American Express Interactive Services

Hello, when I opened this card, the signup bonus was 10,000 points and later was switched to 30,000 points. I would like to know if there is any way to get credited for the difference? This card is arguably the best card in my wallet right now, and, from past experiences, you guys have the greatest customer service out of all of them. I would greatly appreciate any and all help in this matter.
Thanks,
Daniel

I doubt it.  They did the 30K as an incentive just before they bumped up the annual fee and added the new card benefits (elite qual stays/nights, sheraton 3 for 2, etc.).  Don't see the annual fee going up for a while now.

I was also denied on 2 cards (mine+ wife's) the response came from "Emma Maxwell Team Leader Email Servicing Team" on both requests and I saw some responses to the gold as well as possibly the plat that came from her which is interesting as they are different departments.
I assume she was nominated as point person to deal with all these requests and all dept's are forwarding them to her and the gravy train is coming to an end...

+1

I emailed two different departments on two different accounts with different addresses to match the Plat promo. I received the same response from Emma Maxwell on both accounts at the exact same minute, and it's a carbon copy of the other responses from her posted on this site. Seems like she's the lead person to handle these requests.

I don't think it's coming to an end though, it just has to do with the great influx of requests AMEX has gotten.

I too was denied this morning but the response came from "Prarthana Sinha Email Servicing Team American Express Interactive Services" not from the infamous Emma

I sent them a SM message and the denied my request. I resent it to a different department and got back:

Regarding your concern, it seems that you've not received the response which we sent yesterday.
Here is the response that we sent:

"YMMV: Using AMEX’s Secure Message Center To Get More Miles?"

That's the title for a recent post on the main site, any reason why its "not found"?

Does anyone think I can have a better chance at this by mentioning that I gave them a crazy amount of business (believe me, I did) since becoming their customer?

Who'd you give business to and how?
-Amex, by spending on the SPG card.
-Amex, by referring people to the SPG card.
-SPG, by staying at starwood hotels.
-Something else?

-Spent a hefty amount of money on Amex Starwood, and I mean, HEFTY.
-I didn't have in mind the referrals, but now that you mention it, two of those came through forsure, maybe three..

Amex can definitely see that in your account history, so I'd definitely play that card (and the 'loyalty' card) with them.

Boy am I frustrated. I saw BP's post labeled "yesterday" and somehow misread the first post thinking it started  a few weeks ago (June 30).

I read through 8 pages of the forums until I realized that this is from 2010!!!

 :o

Thanks BP  ::)
