A group of activist gentiles and their pastor from a local Church went into Rockland Kosher at an attempt to integrate the Jewish and Non-Jewish communities.  The project, called Wake Up Rockland (http://www.jewishpress.com/blogs/fink-or-swim/monsey-koser-market-integration-great-idea-terrible-execution-video/2013/07/01/), was deemed a failure due to the prohibitive pricing in the Monsey kosher supermarkets.

I've been there several times. Love it. Exactly what Monsey needed. Great selection, reasonable prices, and great sales (and they actually have the "heimishe" mayonnaise in the same aisle as the "national" mayonnaise. Brilliant.)

Evergreen is a lot nicer than shower's haven. All the heimish chasidim have that look on their face like they are stealing of something as they walk down the aisles with the regular kosher stuff.
Zishe's bakery moved into the store, although I think Shlomy's has already taken Zishe's down.

Good point!  I never understood that.  What's so great about those "Hawaii" shampoos?  Or Dr. Fisher's...  All the same garbage Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate in them.

The big thing about this years election in Monsey is that until now we only have enough votes to influence Ramapo, now the Jewish community has grown big enough to take on the Village of Spring Valley and Rockland County.

No matter if we loss of win the politicians in power will know that the Jewish vote has a say.

Dear Friends and Fellow Riders,

The flea market park-n-ride is closing Pesach.   We appreciate that the new owner accommodated us  through the winter and extend a thank you.  He has new retail tenants moving in and needs the space.  We wish him much hatzlacha.    I am hoping  Monsey Trails management will share options available to us.

In the interim. I would like to propose to the County TOR a commuter lot for the riders living north of Viola.   Rumor has it that a very large park-n-ride is being built this spring behind the Good Year Tire by 306  & 59.  This location does not serve  the north side of town residents.   Besides fuel consumption, the travel 20+ minutes a day to and from this location isn't time well spent, nor additional traffic during rush hours.    I would like to propose to the county to create a location North of Viola and I have a specific location to suggest.    Before asking we need to have rider data supporting the request.  This link https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MonseyTrails-a-survey-by-the-riders will open to a very very short survey of ridership habits.    Please help  and complete it regardless of where you live.   Once completed make sure to click done.     It is important for us to present the data along with any request.  If you cannot access the survey, you can click here Printable form and print out the form manually.  Please then fax it back to 212-428-6813.   You need to put in your name to weed out duplicates clicks and to show the county verifiable information.

Thank you in advance.   Please share with others you know ride the bus.

Sincerely,

Even if everyone was willing to drive to the other park and ride it wouldn't work. The lot is filled to capacity by 7:45. With everyone driving there it would fill up even earlier.

This is a major problem.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ I just wanted to share the experience we just had with the Monsey Tours bus. It was the 12:30 bus on a Motzei Shabbos were 4 girls getting onto the bus, 2 of us had exact change and the other 2 only had $20. The driver said you need exact change. As 2 of us had exact change one of us told him he should call us as soon as he gets change for us. I guess he had a really bad night as he stood up aggressi :)vely and started yelling how we have no right to tell him how to run his bus. One girl was in the back of the bus already and received  a funny message and was smiling to herself. He started yelling at us that we all have to get off the bus this second and he will not move it until we do. He threatened to call the cops if we do not. At this point we went over to him and apologized and tried explaining to him what happened. Next thing we know 4 cops cars showed up. The cops claimed that because this is a private bus company he can't help us, the bus just left. We were 4 16 year olds stranded in the streets of Monsey at 1 o'clock in the morning with no way home.I just wanted to share this experience we had with Monsey Tours, their horrible service and disgraceful driver, harassing 4 young teens. I advise you not to use Monsey Tours if you have another option.

Drivers response :
There were 4 girls coming on to my bus, disrespectful, rude, nasty and shouting at me things that I wouldn't want to repeat here. I asked them nicely to behave and get inside. They just continued being nasty and rude and were distracting me from driving safely. I told them to please behave or I'll have to remove them from the bus. Happens to be a cop passed by so I flashed him, explained him the story and he commanded the girls off the bus. We arrived at our destination with all other passengers safely.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that using the back of the drive-in is a better idea? That space is many times the size of what's being used now.

Making a new one by the 306 and 59 is just gonna make a crazy intersection crazier.

Good evening,

I met with the county on Friday and they shared the following:  They are well aware of the closing of the Flea Market Park n Ride in three weeks. There is in fact a 300+ car lot planned behind Goodyear tire in Monsey.   However, due to certain environmental factors (one legged bats and other creations of G-D) they have to wait for additional studies and could not begin cutting trees.  At this point it will have to wait until October.  Stay tuned.  See link for proposed detailshttp://rocklandgov.com/files/9314/2056/3941/Monsey_P__R_10_23_2014_Public_Info_Presentation.pdf and attached PDF.

In the interim, the county is in regular contact with MT (that was comforting).  They are exploring quick fixes for the flea market closure.

1. This includes contact with a number of retail establishments and private lots between rt 59 and new square along rt 45.  I believe they will identify something shortly.  Getting a lease signed will determine timing......

2. For the central and southern commuters the County is  expanding the Monsey lot behind the screen, putting in  more lighting and striping the spaces.

We then discussed the long term plans for making changes to the routes and lots to accommodate the changing population demographics.  They are very sensitive of our travel time to/from our homes to the commuter lots.  Just as we donít they too do not want congestion, wasting of fuel and loss of our precious time.  Along with MT making adjustments to the route pickups, accommodating the riders needs and security, these ideas were floated and discussed briefly:

∑         A Jitney to go to a few areas and shuttle riders to the Central Park N rides.

∑         A stop in the Montvale GSP stop for the Chestnut Ridge neighborhoods (only if more spaces become available).   MT would have to contact the State to make this work.

∑         The Eugene Levy Park N Ride on rt 45. Has plenty of available spaces Ė this would require a bus starting further North.

∑         The Hillcrest shopping center

∑         The parking lot by the SV police station,

∑         Rt 306 and Viola if the land is available Ė although that would be an approval process

∑         And other locations.

If you know the owner of any space that can host 50+ cars and would be amenable to it, please let me know and I will forward to the transportation planner.   If you know of an owner that would accommodate us in central or north Monsey along the existing routes for a 6-9 month period that too would be very helpful as a gap filler for the void.

They were very interested in the Survey results.  It helps them with allocating budget to us and MT.  Please print out a few copies of the attached and ask your feller rider who may not have email to complete and fax it back for him/her.   I would like to get to 500-600 replies.  We have 314.  Below are some results.

We left with a few to doís on each side of the table to address the immediate concerns and will be in touch again this week.

IYíH good news will come.

Have a good night.

From a Shul Email

I have been informed that there will be no sanitation pickup today due to religious observance [i cannot imagine why this excuse is being used today, when there was pickup on 12/25!! but it is what it is].

If you have any chametz in your possession, place it in a trash can and put it out in the street. This is considered 'hefker'--ownerless, and you can leave it there. If you wish to remove it completely, place it in one of the bins provided around town.

Have a chag kasher vesameach

Fwd: I just got a ticket on Route 59 for talking on my cell phone.  The cop told me they have a ticket blitz tonight for ppl on cell phones all along Rt 59 from Spring Valley to Suffern. I saw a lot of ppl stopped for tickets. Please let ppl know.

Clarkstown Police Department announced the blitz and I find them relatively communicative on their facebook page.

that will be very helpful -- especially the left turning lane onto Viola to avoid long back ups. the construction could take a long time, the article doesn't say how long. will be good when it's finished.

Not sure what you mean by apartment buildings, but it's that culvert and bridge thing they've been working on for years.

About halfway between Viola and Maple.

so let's place this type of gps tracking device on tires, tfillin, keys, cars, wallets, carry-on bags, (and some high-limit ccs?) and we'll solve more crimes, arrest more criminals, and prevent more of these burglaries and crimes.

Not following.  Indeed, my comment re motzi shem ra was referring to only one possible scenario.

If a yid were the victim, chas v'sh, it would be a different scenario, but again, should we be discussing this on a public forum before a public announcement were made? Safety? Strategy? Are we sure that no damage to him will come out of our discussing this?  Are we sure that no one else will misunderstand it as I may have?

The second comment clearly and very eloquently explains where this person went wrong:

" Your article is rather simplistic. You have bundled together a host of serious issues, and on that basis have decided that since people haven't effectively or appropriately dealt with some major problems, therefore every aspect of their culture and moral system should be allowed to erode. I don't think that there is a simple solution. I don't think that doing away with the prohibition of TV will necessarily solve all of the problems to make Yiddishkeit better and to make the new generation more pious and closer to Hashem.

TV has been a no no in frum circles for over 40 years. It is true that the internet, which presents worse challenges, has dwarfed the TV problem and we have yet to find a viable solution. But does that mean that we should concede? If that is your suggestion, fine , but that might not be the only suggestion, and it is certainly a real issue which needs addressing. As long as we don't have a clear solution, we can't do away with all old values, because we haven't properly replaced them with a well thought out new value system."

It is much deeper than that. He has his facts wrong as well about some of the earlier Monsey polotics. One example is the eruv which R Yaakov Kamenetzky, who was a rov in Monsey at the time, was firmly against. There is much more to the story. I have no knowledge of the specific incident that he is bring all of these other ones into, but each of the others has much more to it than he is making it sound. If that cop is so concerned about safety, why is he driving without a seatbelt?

Well said!! I hope I don't come across as a self hating jew... but if I would be a non-jew living in Mahwah NJ and after witnessing what happened in Monsey, I would have the same concerns as they do and would do anything to stop 'those jews' from coming to Mahwah.

There have been no new "approvals" on large scale projects for about 2 years now. All the current new large constructions were approved before that.

I wasn't delving into the candidates, positions etc. Just starting a fact.

Was in Monsey today.. What a compaign.. What does it look like as of today before the actual results are in? Do they have a chance to get rid from Ed Day? In 2013 they lost with a few thousand votes. Did they make up ground?

I love all the Monsey self haters. Its so much fun to be a self hater, isnt it? I know personally a few families who have suffered badly thanks to Day. He is not just here to enforce the code. He is a open ugly antisemit.

My friend was told by a county inspector that they have to be out of they're home within a week! This inspector came every year for the last couple of years and everything was good but last week he said that he's very sorry but he has no choice because the county is onto him and if he doesn't satisfy them... He'll lose his job.

Seriously???! Forget about all these huge projects for a moment. I personally know people there who are running around in circles from person to person borrowing money and repaying others and on and on... They wanna build a simple house, but cannot get a permit to anything!

And as for the big projects, whoever can't stand them should go move elsewhere! Do you know who couldn't stand the growth of the Yidden? Pharaoh! Wanna put yourself into that category?! Be my guest. But I cannot foretell where this will end up. All that I have left to say now is וכאשר יענו אותו כן ירבה וכן יפרץ.

And even stronger than in 2013! Bottom line the Jewish Rampo block vote is just that. Just Rampo. Time and time again shows they don't impact so far County elections.

BTW from what it looked like, their candidate didn't look like a major candidate. I guess for next time they need to pick someone who could pick up a lot of votes by other random people in the county. I don't think she appealed to regular voters.

It started with barely in East Ramapo, then not so barely anymore. Then barely in Ramapo with the referendum. Then Ramapo is no longer remotely competitive anymore. All bloc candidates got over 60% in Ramapo.
Rockland is hopefully next.
