Tickets in israel are not due till 3 months from when u get them .
Once the due date passes and they realize it has not bin paid they start reviewing info on the car tom contact the owner which in this case is the rental agency ...
It safe to say that before 6 months they rental company does not know received a violation ...
Therefore to be sage cancel your cards every 6 months son they can not charge your card ..., if it comes down to it
And thanks for listening

Most of the tickets we are referring are not meter tickets but side walk were there is no parking on private streets .. For no reason and although the law ...

On a serious note, I recall learning some of the sugya about tzedaka a few yrs back, and there was a shita that said that you can estimate how much of your taxes go towards welfare, and offset your tzedaka with it. (But I could be completely off base)

I rented a car from Avis 15 months ago. While i was there i got a 100NIS parking ticket which i discarded.
a few weeks ago i got a letter in the mail from an attorney in Israel who was demanding that i pay the fine plus an additional 40NIS!
I googled him and he advertises that he collects corporate loans and fines for a commission, I had long ago canceled that credit card but i paid him (although i probably could have gotten away with it...)

I'm glad you got a laugh out of it,
as i wasn't sure if it could affect my credit and it was a legitimate ticket i figured 140 nis isn't a whole lot of money to spend just to b sure

I just got a letter from a lawyer representing the city of Jerusalem for a ticket that I got on the second day of shavuos - last year. I definitely don't think I should have to pay it as it was chag for me.
It says that if I don't pay the fine within 30 days I will be charged a lot more. Of course I only got the letter four months late.
Anyone have any suggestions? I live in the U.S...
Can I be arrested the next time I come to Israel if I get pulled over or something?

I did a favor for a friend and rented a car for him under my name. he got a 500 shekel fine for parking on the sidewalk. I really hope nothing happens but i just saw a random 50 shekel charge on my cc from avis. Now im afraid that might be the fee for processing or something and that the ticket will soon arive by mail.

I don't understand why people in this thread are suggesting to cancel your card, when all you need is to report it stolen and they'll over night you new numbers. Should accomplish the same thing

They me be legit as per their rule book.
But who is receiving the money? The city.
As a resident of the city there is no free parking within a few block radius.
Although I chose to live here, this is a familiar scenario to many all over Israel.
I feel obligated to do my best by assisting others and myself of course to stop this cr@.. and avoid paying these fines.

they have a copy of your ticket. they sent me a copy of mine when i requested them to do so
-
I feel bad for you folks, but at the same time, as a tax-paying Israeli, I'm happy that they're finally going after collecting these tickets.
When you rent a car here, you're obligating yourself to follow the driving rules, and the associated fines for ignoring them.
I'll come off my high horse now.

I can't really see how it's possible for them to give me issues in America. The letter isn't even certified, who said I ever got it.

stealing is when u take money belonging to someone else, or if u dont pay someone what u owe them. when someone decides that u owe him money because he can, if u dont pay that it is not stealing. if u do pay them he is stealing from u

is your offer still on the table? It's technically still today.
Also if anyone else has as answer to what I shall/can do? I received a parking ticket today on a sixt car for 100 shekel in tzfat. While I would would love not to pay it, my main concern is the loads of money sixt officially charges if you get a ticket.

there u go, mistake #1. the rental doesnt pay a cent. they just foward ur info to the city and tell them to go find u... (assuming that it was rented under a foreign passport). proof of this is the collection letters that everybody has been getting recently, they all say they are representing the city of jerusalem, not the rental companies.

Haven't seen a post re Hertz rental cars in a while ... got a ticket in J-lem (100 NIS) on Hertz rental. Don't plan on cancelling the CC anytime soon. Just pay it?

And Hertz won't charge me, despite the term in the rental agreement that says they will + fee?

Yes they will charge you iirc $17, which is cheaper then 100 shekel

Correct. Your welcome

Anyone ever get a "collection notice" from cedar financial for parking violation? If yes, did you pay?
-
I got one a few weeks ago, was a ticket from August 2013, called them that I never got such a ticket....., maybe this firm is not even legit......... and just let it go.
-
Got two 100NIS tickets last yr, didnt pay because Hertz contract states they would. now got a letter from the eilat firm saying that Hertz paid $20 each and I owe balance plus eilat's handling fee.
Its not a lot and i would just pay it but the whole thing doesnt make sense since why would hertz pay only part of the fee? I cant figure out by looking at charges since there are also kvis 6 charges and i cant tell whats what.
-
I got a letter from Cedar for $175. I don't remember anything.
But interestingly enough they have my dad's name with my address.
Should I be worried?

Because you wouldn't worry or because your worrying is not worth $175?

The charge the $17 as a "service fee" for the trouble of having to write a letter to the municipality declaring that it was a dumb tourist during a rental who scored the ticket, and not someone who they can actually go after.

And when I had that, I made a quick call to Chase and bye bye to the $17 fee.

A friend of mine just told me that when they called him he asked if it will go on his report and they said NO. So they asked him if he will lay he said no so asked again you never plan on paying and he said no again so they said ok will right that down so no one calls you back again.

Hi, I have a new $17 charge on my card from a car rental a while back. I paid for the rental in full and have a receipt to show. Their response, Ok sir we'll look into it and get back to you. Money credited back, the end.

I just got a charge to my CC from 'kardenvehicle' for about $30. i think it was for a 100 shek ticket or maybe it was from the highway 6.. i also went on that... but basically they do charge the CC. (Rented from Avis and got a Mazda 3 with 93000km)

"Kardan" is Avis Israel.

It's probably for going on the 6. Not for sure for the ticket.

So i really hope they dont charge my CC for the parking tickets... i got charged in america once $25.75 for going on a toll lane in Florida. It was a $25 fee and $.75 toll charge...

Yes, I believe there were 3 tickets. Each got it's own letter. I also seem to recall that my cc was charged a few months after I got back from Israel, I assumed it was for the tix but not certain. Should I just ignore?

I am pretty sure, though not 100%, that this is a scam.
Someone got a hold of a list of rental location clients and is sending them fake collection letters hoping a fraction of the people will pay without thinking about it.
I am investigating and will update this thread once I have more info.

I got mine from Cedar Financial first in debt recovery, at least that's what their stationary says. The return address is to cedar Financial po box 8986 calabasas CA. Looking on Google it looks like a legit agency and they do international debt collections. I guess the real question here is can they do anything that will effect my credit score?

I've been getting that as well as letters for tickets from 36 months ago and haven't had any problems.

Only reason to pay is that at 100 NS it's really not that much and I don't want to risk it going to collections and it somehow affecting my credit. The risk in miniscule but again it's not a lot of money.

Got registered mail in Israel from the Iriya for a unpaid 500 NIS ticket.
I also got a $13 charge form Thrifty on my CC last week, for processing this ticket.
Anyone ever got this?
I'm worried that they could freeze my Israeli bank account or make a Ikuv Yetizah.

No issues when trying to enter or leave the country (American tourist visiting)?
I have a $200 ticket in collections (I was the primary renter but the additional driver got a parking ticket and didn't want to pay).
I'd (obviously) rather not pay since I don't feel responsible for his ticket.. However if there's an actual risk of getting stopped at the airport, I'd rather call the collections firm and make sure they close the file (pay etc.).

Want my opinion? Dont pay. Next time the collections agency calls (the one in Eilat or in the States?), tell them you have absolutely no intention of paying.

4 years ago I rented from Eldan in the airport, this time I rented from Budget in the airport. Although the desks are right next to each other, it seems like they didn't share my info.

I got an Israeli ticket from Cedar Financial in Calabasas CA as an agent for the Isaac Eilat law office. It said that Eilat send me many letters (didn't get any) and now it's been referred to their American agent.
Can I presume that it won't affect my credit if I don't pay? If there's a slight risk then I would certainly pay the 56 dollar fine.

Nothing they can do or proof. They just bark, I had 2 tickets , one parking in Ein Gedi and the other from a traffic light camera, they sent to my Jerusalem address and then through an Israeli collection agency operating in the US, that was 2 years ago , I never responded.

ok so for all those that got tickets in Jerusalem, if you go online within 24 hours, you'll see that there is no mandatory amount set to the ticket yet...
you can pay 1 shekel to satisfy the ticket.
(just be sure to give a fake passport number just in case:)

The jerusalem.muni site says tickets can only be paid from 3 days after written, I assume this exploits that?

exactly. I have actually gotten online too early sometimes and had to wait till the next morning before it even allowed me to pay 1 shekel at all.

crazy loophole. How do you know it actually satisfies the ticket?

simple. because you have 90 days to pay the ticket. eldan wont even receive a notice before then, and by then ,they don't have your credit card anymore, once they close the rental contract.

because you don't want the notices arriving in the mail a year from now... also just a precaution. technically you do not have to pay at all youre right

Very simple. The lack of an experience doesn't negate the possibility that it exists. The confirmation of an experience most certainly negates the possibility that it doesn't exist.

Just wondering, just because not paying parking tickets won't effect us in the US does that mean that they can't take legal action against us in Israel. Such as stopping us in the airport after the debt plus interest goes above $10,000?

They can stop people at the airport after court orders or judgments are issued, I know someone who was stopped at TLV and not allowed to fly for owing taxes from previous years, not sure if traffic or parking tickets are the same.
-
ouch that sucks. can you verify if that was because of a court order/judgement, or just a plain ticket?
theres a pretty big difference.

I received a couple in Jerusalem and then one in Yaffo on this trip.

The most recent one was about a year and half to 2 years ago as far as 7 years ago.

A little off topic just wasn't sure where to post.
Got a ticket for driving in the bus lane with a tus-tus
Registerd on my brothers name
I gave them my brothers passport #
So on the ticket it says my name and my NY DL # but my brothers passport number.
Do I have to pay the ticket?wanting can they connect to dots?
If yes would paying online 1 nis work?
-
Israeli or foreign passport? if foreign, I wouldn't worry.
foreign passport.
Is it a problem that the ticket is attached to the tus-tus which is also on the same passport? Or because the name doesn't match..

Just got bills from a collection agency in the mail for a ticket that one family member got in December 2016 and for a ticket that another family member got in August 2017.??

I have no idea why or why not they decided to charge him. Was just saying that the statement that they can't charge you anymore is entirely false.
R Emkay, earlier on this thread you seemed to say dont worry about tix, but later on seemed to say that rental car companies can charge your card under their policies, have u experienced that (and if they do how much do they charge)? Asking about a 500 shek unfair parking ticket on a europcar (albar).

I think they always charge you, whether you pay the ticket or not. (Maybe they always assume you didn't pay. I would be surprised if a penny of what they charge you gets forwarded to the city.)
I try to rent on a spare card, and report it as lost right after the rental. I usually have a new (Chase) card within 72-96 hours of it being reported lost and a new card being overnighted.
I have a rental that I didn't get around to cancelling card (I don't think I even got any tickets on that rental) and months later I noticed that there were a bunch of charges ranging from $20-$100 on the card from the rental agency. As long as they have your active card, they feel free to take money from you when they're in the mood.

They won't charge the ticket price, they may charge a processing fee of 100 shekels for telling the city that they can't chase you. That's the case with most car rentals here.
Not charging you doesn't mean they can't.

This is false but doesnt matter, as long as it sounds juicy and properly cynical.

I can post screenshots later, if that'll make you happy. Your assertion was properly cynical, though; I'll grant that.

Screenshots mean little but I didn't doubt you got charged, I left that out of my quote.

I'd venture to say the smell is in you.
You don't find that funny that every agency charges you all the time while 99% of people don't get extra charges months later?

are the car rental companies responsible for paying the tickets if the previous renter cancels his credit card? are the car rental owners Jewish? and who sends the tickets to collections the rental company or the city?

City. The only thing you're stiffing them out of is their processing fee to give over your name to the city which is in your contract.

I got an Israeli ticket from Cedar Financial in Calabasas CA as an agent for the Isaac Eilat law office. It said that Eilat send me many letters (didn't get any) and now it's been referred to their American agent.
I had a similar experience. I got a few letters like these over the last 2-3 years, about a few parking tickets. Ignored them and haven't heard from them for at least a year.

Did anyone rent from the same rental car company after getting parking tickets in Israel on a previous rental? I am hesitant to rent from hertz or budget after getting parking tickets last year on their rental cars and never paying them. also, have people got stopped by passport control or customs for not paying the tickets?

You could get away with the points if a foreign citizen claims he was driving while speeding.
