Title: Parking at JFK
Post by: Menachem613 on June 24, 2013, 03:44:04 PM
Based on reviews, it appears that Long Term Parking and Park Plus are ok.  Anyone have experience with these two?

If you use the long-term parking in JFK give yourself an extra half hour to take the inter-terminal tram. We had to take it all the way to AA terminal (Terminal 8) last time and missed our flight, the tram took at least 20-25 minutes to go through all the terminals.

I'm referring to the private company called Long Term Parking.

We were already running a little late but without the tram, we definitely would have still made the flight it delayed us by at least 25 minutes. It was a while ago so I can't remember exactly when we got there

Anyone know of a good deal or a specific company for long term parking at JFK?

about 2 months ago i parked in Howard Beach and took the Airtrain. It works great and its cheap but it takes some time back and forth. if there is a good deal in a lot with a shuttle i rather do that.

Thanks,

Define longterm?

I flew LGA a few weeks ago, used dollar rental car $20 a day for 6 days. Drop off and pick up included, very fast service.

Im flying out of JFK next week from Sunday to Thursday. i was thinking of parking in Howard beach and then to take the Airtrain. But first of all, I'm afraid to leave my car on the street for that long and now with the weather and all the snow I'm afraid it may not be easy to find street parking near the train.

So I'm thinking to just park in one of the long term lots. Has anyone used any lots that they recommend? Online the reviews are not to good on most. people complain that they need to wait too long to get dropped off at the terminal and then also when they get picked up on the way back.

Thanks,

His point was to search and post in appropriate thread, no need to create new ones.
And the Ohel is in Queens, not Brooklyn.

I was happy with using them.
On the other hand, being that u have your location as Lkwd, I would suggest looking in the Maasa Umatan there is a number there for a Shul nearby that you can park by and have someone drive you.

As I stated in the JFK thread... I got a groupon for a place called park&save. It was $8 for $15. But they only charge $8 a day!! And they have a shuttle. Though it's more of an economical parking. But it worked for me. They're are a new place so I guess that's why they're cheap.

I had an excellent experience with Park Plus Airport Parking at JFK last week... $10 per day plus they had an online coupon for a free day.  Quick service to the terminal, helped with bags as well.  Upon return had van waiting for me at terminals and my car was warm upon return.  Couldn't have asked for better service at a better price...

I just parked at tue JFK raddison. Used airportparkinginc.com. $10 a day plus tax. Plus $5 fee. Total $59.44 for 5 days .  its about 1 mile from the airport.
JFK long term is 4 miles away. And I am not sure about the shullttle schedule.
I called on my way over to verify when they have shuttles. They have every half an hour. I asked on the phone they should wait for me as I was in traffic. They said if there will be no other people waiting then they will wait for me. And they did. I will report back when I return.

I dropped off my family at airport and then parked car in shul's lot.  After shacharit shul member took me to the A train.  You can also take bus to A train station as well.  From the A train you can take it to JFK!

Funny that the headline calls it "new". This has been advertised for several years. On the three occasions a couple of years ago that I stopped there for מנחה there was nobody else around to pray with me. A janitor unlocked a small sanctuary for me to pray in alone.
Is it different now?

Looking for ideas. My car will likely be at a friend in the 5T who will drive me to JFK, but on the return, I land at 5:30AM and wouldn't want to make him get me that early.
1) I can take a cab to his house for probably $30
2) He could drive my car the night before to a store/shul parking lot that is closer to the airport if there's anything that's close enough to walk to from JFK.
3) Maybe he could drive my car and park it at the airport and then I only pay 1 night of parking.

Any other ideas?

Your second choice might not be possible for free. I don't know of any legal way to get out of the JFK terminal area for free. I don't think there is a sidewalk via which you can leave the terminal area of the airport. Sneaking on some car rental's or hotel's shuttle is free but not legal. For the price of a bus fare, you can take the Q3, Q10 or B15 from terminal 5 (you can get to terminal 5 from any other terminal for free via the AirTrain (http://www.panynj.gov/airports/jfk-airtrain.html)). See the bus map (http://web.mta.info/nyct/maps/busqns.pdf) for where those can take you. You can take the AirTrain (http://www.panynj.gov/airports/jfk-airtrain.html) out of JFK for at least $5.

Looks like the Ohel (http://www.ohelchabad.org/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/78448/jewish/Directions.htm) area still has no alt st parking.
I know it has available parking spots on random streets in the area.
But how do you get from the Ohel to JFK?  taxi?

The area around the ohel has no alt. side parking, and you can get from Ohel to JFK either with Taxi or sometimes a guy will give you a ride. Though, if you park on the streets where people live, they might call to tow it if they see it a long time. The best place is on Francis Lewis along the cemetery.

From a jet blue email

Driving yourself to the airport?

In order to alleviate congestion in the Terminal 5 (yellow) parking garage, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is offering JetBlue customers a daily discount in alternate locations.

JFK parking options:

Terminal 5 (yellow) garage: $33 per day (standard rate)
Terminal 7 (orange) garage: $23 per day ($10 daily discount)
Long-term lot: $14 per day ($4 daily discount)
If you wish to take advantage of the Terminal 7 (orange) parking discount, follow signs for Terminal 7 parking and take the free JFK AirTrain one stop to Terminal 5. Simply ask the parking agent for the JetBlue customer discount upon exiting.

If you wish to take advantage of the long-term parking discount, you must print this coupon in advance. Follow signs for long-term parking and take the free JFK AirTrain to Terminal 5. Present the pre-printed coupon to the parking agent upon exiting..

You can find some on Groupon however if you read the fine print there are so many add-on fees (recovery fee, taxes, service fee etc)  that I can't understand why someone wouldn't just use long term with their coupon which is $14 a day and continues monorails. (and if the stay doesn't end within a few hoursminutes of when originating you pay a full day rather then in blocks of 8 hours)

When I tried that the Uber was like $30-$40 each way to/from JFK. Cheaper to pay for parking.

It's not the safest as your leaving your car unintended for a bit, but if there's nothing to steal from your car then there's nothing to be worried about.
And try to get a spot more open to the public.

I took a shared Uber from the terminal, I took a taxi to the terminal, price was about the same.

Taxi should be metered, not fixed price.

Haven't taken a taxi from the airport in ages, but IIRC there's a supervisor on the taxi line that asks you where you are going before ushering you into a taxi (or as the taxi gets ready to go). If it's such a short ride the taxi driver gets some kind of a note that allows him to skip the line when he comes back into the airport. In NYC I believe it's illegal for a taxi to refuse a fare.

It used to be that if you told the dispatcher you were going to Queens when you were going to Brooklyn, the driver would be pleased because he would get a shorter line back into the airport but now Brooklyn is in the same category. So, yes, there's an advantage to them with shorter trips, but not THAT short.

Uber drivers might be able to do that, but they don't have to go in the Cab line, so it's not that much of an issue for them. Shared Uber shouldn't be a problem.

Understood, though it's a slightly longer ride than just parking here (https://goo.gl/maps/kfMC92Gzsh12) or any of the nearby streets, which are all literally across from the airport. I last parked there when I needed to rent a full size van for the weekend. Google maps showed it as a 15 minute walk to Avis. Uber was about 4 minutes (once the pickup occurred).

I had the "official" directions and your address and ultimately your address is what got me there via waze. Thanks again, really appreciated.

I don't think so.

You can check that, and any location on an interactive map at: http://www.nycdot.info/ (don't forget to check Parking Signson the right).

Or by address at: http://a841-dotvweb01.nyc.gov/ParkingRegs/ViewController/LocationValidation.aspx

+1 I park next to the sanitation department. There's always plenty of spots.

+1, love the sanitation department blocks. Tons of parking in the back too. Uber was $10, but took a few minutes to get someone to come get me.

Almost the entire sanitation area has fresh no parking signs. Fortunately, I found a small strip with a spot among other cars that didn't have a sign, across from the Best Western.

What about:

Understood, though it's a slightly longer ride than just parking here (https://goo.gl/maps/kfMC92Gzsh12) or any of the nearby streets, which are all literally across from the airport. I last parked there when I needed to rent a full size van for the weekend. Google maps showed it as a 15 minute walk to Avis. Uber was about 4 minutes (once the pickup occurred).

I parked my car by the ohel over the weekend, just got back and its gone!!!
Someone help asap! Im stuck here, its 1:40 am....

EDIT:
Apparently there was an event on Friday and they towed my car, parked it a few blocks away. Got it safe and sound...
Just a reminder not to park there when there is an event by the ohel or your car will be towed and moved to a random location. ( I learned the hard way...)

You think they would tow cars on any day besides for Erev Rosh Hashana, Gimmel Tammuz and Yud Shevat?
Either way, it's strongly advisable to support YT and those who advertise in their calendar ;-)

I don't have the link handy, but NYC DOT actually has an online map of every parking regulation sign in the city. So you can definitely verify.

I cannot guarantee anything (other than that they WILL tow in Crown Heights on my block). If you park on one of the side streets next to the Ohel, I don't think they ever tow there, even at times when they would tow right next to the Ohel (such as Yud Shevat and Gimmel Tamuz).

I doubt any JFK airport parking, even with a coupon, will be cheaper than taking a taxi or an Uber from/to a free parking spot. And taking a taxi from/to your parking spot might be faster than the parking facility shuttle.

Yes, Do NOT park anywhere on Francis Lewis blvd, Ohel and opposite side, the road is roughed up because of slow construction, my car was towed from 228th st to 222th st, park on 120th Ave anywhere, took me awhile to find my car even after calling the police.
