I just tried upgrading my room at the brand new Andaz In Costa Rica, and the agent told me that in addition to using 6000 points i would need to pay $450 per night :'(! I spoke to 3 different agents and they all said the same thing. Has anyone ever heard of needing to pay plus use points to upgrade?

You'd have to imagine you'd pay a premium over at least a category 6-probably even over a category 7. My guess is 35K.

But neither are under the park Hyatt flag or were priced under the current rates. I'd be surprised if it was less than 30K

I'm also surprised the PH MLE is staying a cat 6.  These things can be unpredictable.
But I'd say 25K, 30K, or 35K are the probable price points.

Don't know if this is the right place for this, but what's the deal with Hyatt Vacation Club? Hyatt lists prices in points for various 'rooms' to stay at these properties, and the numbers seem very low (link (http://www.hyatt.com/gp/en/awards/hyatt_free_night.jsp)). Are these available to be booked with points for any HGP member? I assume there are differences between their hotels and these 'residences', especially with regard to service, but it still seems like a good option for a lot of situations. Looks like there's one opening next to the Hyatt Regency Maui this year, and there are a bunch of them in ski towns in Colorodo.

I decided to stop being so lazy search the wider web. Some pretty good info here (http://boardingarea.com/mommypoints/2013/10/22/use-hyatt-points-to-stay-in-condos-via-the-hyatt-residence-club/#sthash.UJZUxbqq.dpbs) on using Hyatt points at Hyatt Residence Club properties. Bottom line, it sounds like it can in fact be a stellar value in the right situations, but availability is very limited and only accessible by calling in. Still, if you're going somewhere that has one and you want a full kitchen and/or multiple bedrooms, it seems to me like it's at least worth calling in to check.

There is a Hyatt Place opening in Shenzhen on June 15th 2014. I already booked a night there... Do you have any more info about the Park Hyatt opening in Shenzhen? Do you know the location?
Title: Re: Upcoming Hyatt Hotels
Post by: EMCC on May 20, 2014, 12:58:39 AM
Found the info. Most websites are saying that it will be the second Hyatt in Shenzhen which is wrong. It will be the third. There are two in the Luohu district: Grand Hyatt (very close to Chabad and Chabad has a great rate there) and starting June 15th there will be a Hyatt Place in Dongmen which is also in Luohu.

"Park Hyatt Shenzhen, Futian will be situated in the center of Futian's central business district in Shenzhen, adjacent to the Convention and Exhibition Center. Expected to open in 2018, Park Hyatt Shenzhen, Futian will have 223 luxury rooms and suites, multiple restaurants and bars, a spa and fitness center and multi-functional event facilities. The hotel will be located on top of the 1,148-foot south tower, and will be adjacent to the 2,021-foot north tower of the Ping’An Financial Centre, which is expected to be the tallest building in Shenzhen."

In that immediate area there are many top hotels such as the Shangri-La Futian, the Sheraton, the Ritz Carlton, the J.W. Marriott, the V Hotel, the Four Seasons and many others I cannot remember offhand.

I just tested it out for you, it lets me select the hotel but every date that I put in I'm getting an error that either they're sold out or they did not open those rooms for reservations yet. Not sure if that's their way if saying those awards can't be used for such a hotel.

Yes, sent a email twice to the manager a week apart  and a facebook message  no answer as of yet. Will probably have to call up sometime this week.
If they do say no, that will guarantee me a room upgrade at least :)

Has anyone stayed there? reviews?

So I emailed the manager for Kosher food here is the response, Let me know your thoughts., anything to do? mabye ask for room upgrade at least?
Thank you for your message to Hyatt Zilara Cancun, I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

Dear xxx

First of all, please accept my apoligies for the delay in my answer and  allow me to assist you in regards to the findings for Kosher Food Options in Cancun.

We have worked before with a company called Cancun Kosher services who deliver food to hotels.
Attached please find their menu with prices (in Mexican Pesos).
Please understand that each delivery has a cost of 250 Pesos.

It is important to mention that for religious reasons on Fridays they only take orders before 3 pm, which will be delivered on Sundays.
There is no delivery on Friday afternoons or Saturdays.

If you would like to order anything from them we would just ask you to contact me or the Concierge and we would then be able to assist you.
The costs would be charged to your room.

We will be more than glad to assist you with fruits and vegetables as much as you would like.

I would like to mention also that we have had guests bring frozen food from home, which was double wrapped and came with instruction as how to prepare them in a non-kosher kitchen.
I am unaware if maybe this service is available also in your home town.
If so we would be able to store and prepare those foods at the resort according to instruction.
You would require however to sign a release form as it is food that was introduced from outside the resort.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or if you would like my further assistance.

Have an excellent day!

Kind regards,

ye they are all inclusive thats why i was surprised. Although the diamond status gets you virtually nothing there unlike other hyatts. I Think the should cover some cost possibly but doesnt seem like they are interested. My best bet is to ask for there presidential suite possibly? doesn't seem like pushing them will help.

Just got back from the Hyatt zilara Cancun, Mabye ill get around to writing a proper trip review, but the palace is gorgeous. Every room has a ocean view with great balcony, full Jacuzzi in the room super spacious. Service was great, check in room service hotel staff all amazing.
Concerning the kosher food as discussed earlier, they did not want to offer anything like the other Hyatt hotels. the reason is because the hotel is all inclusive (which is amazing) dos not give special status to members like the rest of the hotels.
They did offer us a upgraded room the second night but at that point we didn't want to move.
In the kitchen we spoke to the manager and we had them make us double wrapped salmon and backed potatoes and green beens. They we re super helpful with getting us food when we wanted it.
There are kosher restaurants not far, but i was more then happy with the food in the hotel and the food we brought.

I think its a great place to use your Hyatt free nights, especially for the all inclusive.

Was recently looking for a Hyatt in South Beach and stumbled upon this page: http://southbeachmiami.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html

A Hyatt in South Beach! No category listed yet, but the page says it should be opening in Spring 2015 (I tried booking various dates in the spring and kept getting error messages). Looks boutique-y and would fit in with the rest of the South Beach architecture near the Lincoln Road Mall.

Maybe a category 5?

Hyatt South Beach coming soon. (Was posted in the South Florida thread).
