Title: Southwest Auto Checkin
Post by: jaywhy on January 19, 2014, 10:44:21 AM
I found a very useful script for automating Southwest checkins.
Using it, I normally get A-16 boarding position which is the highest possible for a non Business Select or A List Preferred member.
If you are checking into 2 reservations, you need 2 separate browser instances.
You may need to enable additional permissions in Chrome to get it working properly.
Enjoy :)

So with 6 reservations I would need 6 browsers or tabs?

Every confirmation number needs another browser.

Go to the checkin page.

Go to the checkin page.

I did, and I tried checking in but nothing came up. Is that because it's another hour and half until I can check in? I thought I can delay the checkin.

Nothing to do with southwest specifically, it's just that southwest doesn't assaign seats when you book ur ticket, so if you're particular bout window or aisle and no middle, you need to board early.

3 things. If you check in early, you get the chance to catch an exit row seat. You will be guaranteed overhead room. I'm sitting on a sw plane right now and over 30 passengers had to checkin their carry ons. This may be annoying to some. And finally, nothing beats entering a plane where the seats are virtually empty and you don't have trouble getting from one side of the plane to the other, not bumping into people and it's just much more relaxing than coming in group B/C

Not working for me :(

By permissions, the only thing it says is that this extension can access my data on all websites. (Sounds very safe lol) Otherwise, I don't see anything else to check off. Any suggestions?

read the Wiki, it says

4. In the second box, fill in the date and time that is exactly 24 hours before your flight.

(I usually offset it by a second to allow for any inconsistencies between your computer's clock and the Southwest server clock.)

I put in the date of the day before I fly , however my flight is in a month from now, so they said I can't do it if flight is more than 14 days away.. Am I doing something wrong?

Outbound flight req checkin this morning so I manually did it. Got A34 and A43 not bad :) but still want to see how this works bc next flight is Sunday, so I'm wondering about having this check me in on Shabbos.

Board early. A34 and A43 means we'll be (appx) the 34th and 43rd people on the plane. Then we can pick almost any seat we want. :)

I used it and it's true the scripts now worked in chrome with tampermonkey. However the delay wasn't long enough and southwest said I was trying to check in within 24 hours. I was trying two open tabs in Chrome to book both myself + companion. I set the companion to check in slightly after myself and we both got the same error of attempting to check in within the 24 hours.

I attempted incognito but it didn't display the check in time option. With (as far as I know) chrome with tampermonkey the only working option, I had no choice.

Regardless, I imagine the first reservation should have worked. Might need to delay the check in a few seconds longer next time.

Chrome disables all extensions by default in incognito mode. You need to specifically enable it to work in incognito.

If you have 2 people on the same Confirmation code do you have to check off "who is checking in"  by each person individually making this useless for shabbos checkin.

For companion needs to be done on either 2 different comps, or 2 different browsers. I tried 1 incognito and one standard on Chrome and it didn't work.

Extension was already "allowed in incognito". Perhaps that's what askmoses had wrong.

When you say "script" and "extension", are there two things I need to do? As I said the extension is allowed in incognito, but is there something I should be doing with the actual script?

Yeah me neither. I'm on Chrome now. Almost check-in time!

Data point: I left my laptop screen open but walked away. When I came back, it had fallen asleep. I woke it up to find both timeclocks still running! Not sure if this means it works like this or if something's messed up, and I should reenter the information.

Data point: I left my laptop screen open but walked away. When I came back, it had fallen asleep. I woke it up to find both timeclocks still running! Not sure if this means it works like this or if something's messed up, and I should reenter the information.
You don't have to reenter anything. Just make sure that when the clock is about to expire the computer is on and not sleeping. Otherwise the webpage will not load with your boarding pass and the whole thing will have been for nothing!

Well, anyway, that failed. My computer clock is off from Southwest's by about an entire minute! Not only did it not go through by delaying it for 1 second, it didn't go through when I kept hitting refresh, either, until my computer clock was 1 minute later than my departure time. Kinda funny, no way to know that ahead of time.

Got B2 and B3.

In theory it worked though. I'm running two scripts in chrome now too. One is incognito. Hopefully it'll work tomorrow. (My time is exact :P )
Should I offset them by a second apart or should it not matter?

Just had to do it manually. Got A31 for my first flight.

I'm helping somebody do this but they have 7 passengers and only 2 confirmation numbers. I see their SW confirmation email and it has 5 people under 1 # and 2 people under a second #. Does that make sense? I thought everyone gets their own #
Title: Re: Southwest Auto Checkin
Post by: @Yehuda on August 18, 2014, 01:24:25 PM
Well this is interesting.

I had 1 window and 9 incognito's opened for the same flight:
1 for me (with my own confirmation #)
1 for my wife (with her own confirmation #)
1 for person A (with his confirmation #)
1 for person B (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person C (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person D (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person E (who had the same conf # as A)
1 for person F (with her own confirmation #)
1 for person G (who had the same conf # as F)

I got B13
My wife got B26
Person A for B06
Person F got A27
The other 5 checked in but the boarding position that popped up was with the name and boarding number of Person A, which tells me that incognito either doesn't work or the fact that they had the same confirmation number as Person A, means they all board under his name, which just seems strange since I thought everyone has their own confirmation number. I thought perhaps incognito doesn't work and once the first one checked in, all incognito browsers just took his checkin, but my wife as well as person F were incognito and even though their checkin page had Person A's name and number, when I closed the tabs and re-checked them in, they had their own number including A27 which is way ahead of Person A's B06.

Interesting indeed.

AFAIK, multiple incognitos do not function as discrete episodes, i.e. all incognitos operate in the same sandbox as far as cookies etc are concerned, which likely caused the error.

The only reserved numbers are A1-15 for Business. The rest is automatically assigned in the following order

1. A List Preferred
2. A List
3. People who paid for auto check-in
4. Manual checkins from T-24

If anyone cancels their ticket from 1, 2, or 3, the next person checking in may get lucky and be assigned that number.

Go to the Southwest page in TM and there are 2 tabs "Editor" and "Settings". Under the Editor tab, you want to copy each of the urls found on lines 5-8 (one by one) and add them to the Settings tab in the bottom left box. Click "Add" under that box and add each url BUT add an "s" after "http". Do that for all 4 urls. Will probably have to restart Chrome after and possibly restart your computer. Should look like this when done.

Will we get priority?
Thanks

I had it work yesterday, but then all it did was check me into the next page which is the page that that asks you to confirm you're not bringing in hazardous materials and it never actually checked me in!

I'm referring to the apparent change in how WN conducts its online check-in, rendering this program useless.

Have you tried it recently?

But the date and time still show up and send you through to the next page at the right time. The issue is that there's a new "next page" that requires you to click "accept".

Did it manually and got A35 and A54.

Interestingly, for my wife, when I clicked "checkin" it went to the hazards page for 1 second and then checked her in without my clicking anything. For me, it froze on the hazards page until I clicked "accept". Can't figure out why hers went through automatically.

yes. families board between A and B
That's news to me, I didn't see it on their website. Does that apply if I fly with two ticketed kids age 2 and 3? I'm flying, with my wife on Companion Pass, and two ticketed kids. If it does, does it still pay for me to try checking in to be in the A group?

ETA: I see now the answer to my questions.
Quote from:  https://www.southwest.com/html/generated/help/faqs/boarding_the_plane_faq.html
Do families get to preboard?
An adult traveling with a child four years old or younger may board during Family Boarding, which occurs after the A group has boarded and before the B group begins boarding. If the child and the adult are both holding an A boarding pass, they should both board with the A boarding group.

AJK's link said it would check in for me but it never did so I checked in 20 hours before and ended up in B29!
There are a few reasons you won't be A1 even if you check in exactly 24 hours before:
Others on your flight have Alist status
Others paid $15 For early boarding
If you're flight is the second flight on someone else's reservation, they can check in to BOTH FLIGHTS 24 hours before their FIRST flight

I just got 109,787 southwest points credited to my account from CC's.

I want to cancel my PLUS to get the $69 AF refunded.

What should I do? Can I cancel now OR wait another month till the Companion Pass is official?

Any advise is appreciated.

Once u have the 110k in ur account u dont need the cc but u must wait for the statement to close for the points to transfer from chase to swa, the companion pass will come. U dont even need to wait for it to come, in ur swa profile it will say when u hit 110 and cp, at that point u can call and set it up.

I hear that. Also, if you pay $12.50 for one person, then that person can likely hold a middle seat for their spouse.

if the spouse gets c boarding, get ready to fight for it (unless you are trying to save a middle seat all the way in the back) People get very "ethical" when they want a seat. "you can't save seats"

Slightly OT but it is known that there is ONE seat on a Southwest plane that is actually worth grabbing. That is the one in back of the exit row on the right side (if you're walking from front to back.)

The thing is, most people who pay for early bird don't know about that seat. They are stuck in a mentality that the front of the plane is "first class" even though there is only one big economy cabin in a southwest aircraft.

My point is that sometimes you can be a relatively low number and still get that seat.

Five of us are flying CUN-BOS (via BWI) two weeks from tomorrow. The CUN-BWI flight is sold out. We are a family of 5 with all kids too old to allow us "family boarding". Because of Shabbos, we won't be able to check in until 12 hours before the flight.  Is it worth one of us paying for early check in, and then stowing overhead bags and saving seats? Is that even possible without appearing to be a jerk?  (I have never been able to get auto-checkin to work for me.)

just had that on a southwest flight, paid $30 to upgrade at the gate. I was only traveling with one other person, the gate guy let me bring 2 wheelies (only allowed one) and a personal bag to get the overhead space. I told the flight attendant that I was holding the other seat for my wife. She stood there the entire boarding process (wife was C27!) and told people the seat was taken.

Flying on a 6:15am Sunday flight, but won't be able to check in until Motzei Shabbos (so less than 12 hrs before the flight). Flying with my wife. Does it make sense to use auto-checkin, or will we be OK for a group of 2 to sit together with regular check-in?

Also, does it work to Auto-checkin for one person and save a seat for a second person coming with regular boarding?
