How does it work technically to take over a lease? Does the insurance and lease payments get completely switched over? Or is the new person added on as a second to the primary lessee?

With Toyota it's possible to completely remove it from the original owners name, with Honda the person you switch it to will become the primary lessee but you will remain like a cosigner. As for other companies I do not know, for us Lakewooders I think that's the only companies we lease with! :D

You sure you can transfer lease with 6 months of expiration? I have seen restrictions on honda leases before.

Make sure you give Honda a good excuse (ie Financial), I got denied on my excuse. Before they do anything they have to submit your request with an excuse to the supervisor and they call you back the next business day.

My bad, late response -- Would like to go for a gas-efficient crossover type SUV. I'm eyeing the Mazda CX-5 at the moment, 2015; something along that line perhaps... please PM if anyone has something they're looking to opt out. I'd consider others depending on $, months left, and miles left...

I have an Accord leased through Honda Financial, and I'm going to be moving when there's about 6 months left on the lease. Is there any practical way to recoup some of the cost associated with the last 6 months, or do I just have to eat it and move on?
For people that have transferred the lease, what happens with basic maintenance (brakes, etc), minor damage, etc; who's responsible and how does lease termination work? Thanks.

That's pretty expensive IMO. I'm paying $214/m for the same lease all-in without a down payment. And you are significantly over on miles (same as me actually :)).

How do I go about giving me lease to Sombody?

On a side note I might interested in getting rid of my Camry. It's $120 a month, 10k miles a year. The lease is over May 30 2016 I only put 3799 miles to date on the car. You have 16201 until May 30 2016. I am looking to recoup my $1395 I put down. From what I understand there's a option to extend the lease for $120 a month when it's over every 6 months thereafter. It has backup camera and Bluetooth and 3 Michelin tires (lol).

Depends who finances the lease. They all have processes that involve a decent amount of paperwork and some fees. PM me as I may be interested if theres the 6 month extension option.

You have to call the Toyota your car is owned by. Its a pretty simple process but you may need a good excuse why you want to give it up (ie financial reasons).

2014 Murano S- 9 months left 21K miles currently. Its a 39 month lease with 12k/yr allowance so 18K left to use! $310 a month!
2 conditions- 1) There are some minor scrapes on one side(from being swiped while parked- no other history or repairs, condition is pristine otherwise), so car is being offered as is, although last time i went from Nissan to Nissan they offered a $600 damage waiver, so that should be enough to cover, assuming you stay with Nissan.
2) Transferee is responsible for any costs associated with transferring the lease.

2014 Honda Accord EX (sunroof, premium speakers, right blind spot camera, keyless entry and ignition) for $250 a month with 27 months left. It'll probably be tough finding someone at that price point when you can currently get a Camry for $172 and insurance on a Camry for younger people is cheaper.

???

1 possible reasonĖ the person only needs a car for a year, so the cheapest option would be to take over a lease.
+1, otherwise he would just lease like everyone.

The transactions are done between the lease owner & buyer, not the site. The site is really just for listing.

Once u stop the policy u get back a check for the rest. Example: you pay $600 for 6 months, you stop after 3 months you get back $300

No not at all I had it done. The only thing tht has to match is registration and insurance (in NY)  You or the leasing co calls Honda to get a copy of the Title they generally will fax it over within 48 hrs. And then you could get new registration in anyone's name.

They will let you fully transfer it out of your name only if you have a valid excuse. One valid excuse that I'm aware that works is financial problems and that you won't be able to continue making payments. Once they approve that you're eligible to transfer than they need to approve the person taking over like the regular lease approval process.
The rule is, Honda is harder to get them to agree to transfer but when they approve it's totally out of your name. Toyota approves easier but you remain like a co-signer.

What do you want me to check? I know I have to renew my registration every 2 years and I get billed from the DMV, not Toyota.

Here (http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Vehicle/NewVehicle.htm) it seems like you guys just pay the fee upfront for the entire lease period.

how can you give over a lease to a stranger?
is there a way that the lease becomes entirety his responsibility?
If yes, does it work for all companies?

think a wiki would help.

Some companies, like lexus, allow both of you to go the a local dealer and actually transfer the lease. Others, like Jeep, do not allow that.

And so does mercedes....

https://www.mbfs.com/mbfsr/en/faqs/faqLeaseTransfer.do

"What is a lease transfer, or transfer of interest?
A Lease Transfer or Transfer of Interest (TOI) is the process of transferring a Mercedes-Benz Financial Services First Class Leaseģ from the current lease holder (the "Transferor") to a qualified individual or business (the "Transferee"). This option is subject to eligibility and approval, a Transferor may request that a qualified Transferee assume all rights, interests and obligations under the current lease agreement, thereby releasing the Transferor of any remaining payments and lease end charges. In such an event, the Transferee expressly agrees to assume responsibility for all remaining payments and obligations under the lease agreement."

Was hoping one of you could help me with this.

I want to buy my friends car once his lease is over in June.  He only put 13K miles on the car, so the residual value makes it worth it for me.

I don't want to pay taxes on the car twice - so if I can somehow buy it without two title transfers, it'd be ideal.

Thanks,
cks

People could list their expiring leases to see if they can find a buyer. If the vehicle is low miles it might be worth someone paying a premium to the lessee

no, depends on leasing company. I know toyota you have nothing to do with the lease once there is a transfer.

And most others too, once the leasing company approves the person taking over the original lease holder is of the hook, at least with most companies, I can't say for all.

I'm sure one already exists. Its an easier way to find and discuss possible swaps.
Besides, there's not so many deals on there for NYC under $250 which i think a lot want

Has anyone had experience with a lease takeover? Not a transfer where it switches ownership completely but rather just switch Registration and Insurance with still being in original Lessees name. TIA

Why the need to be added to insurance? If everything is under his name what's to worry? Does he not have insurance? Am I not allowed to drive a friend or relatives vehicle without insurance?
I remember hearing once if I have my own insurance and go into your car and God forbid damage it,I would be covered with my own insurance and wouldn't effect his insurance, same like a rental car?

Am I not allowed to drive a friend or relatives vehicle without insurance?

Technically only on a temporary basis. If one were to be in an accident and the insurance company were to discover that the driver is not on the policy and that he is the sole/primary driver for this car the insurance company can deny the claim.

Depending on how long you want it for and your location, swapalease.com has a pretty decent selection. As does leasetrader.com

How much is a rental for 2 months? Double at least. This is basically a rental, with 11,000 miles available. Obviously only worth for someone that needs the miles.

depends where rent from ;)
and we are in 2019 so most rental cars would be 2018 or 2019

Wonder if there's a company out there that buys such cars or has a way to benefit from the unused miles.
For example I have a car due for return in the next month and have another 12k avlb to put on the car, it has 24k and allowed 36k.
