What I would recommend is maybe to play with different smartphones at a store or by a friends house to see how they are different and what you like.

I have the new htc one m8 . Its an amazing device, and in my opinion much better than the s5. The battery lasts me more than a day of heavy usage, and its simpler than the galaxys. The only drawback is the camera which is good but not great.

Unless you're enlarging your photos the HTC One takes pictures great. And I myself prefer the software of the HTC One 100x more than the Galaxy software.

Both good devices. I'm more of an Android fan myself.
The main differences besides the actual OS are the size and the ability to add a micro sd card and removable battery.

Its not too big and battery is great as it is. Look on the S5 thread for more information. There you will also see the issues people have had with it. Obviously, all phones have some flaws.

AFAIK the cheapest is Golan. For that you'll need a phone with 2100mhz.

ETA: The phone you linked to on Amazon doesn't have.

Moto E (http://www.motorola.com/us/consumers/shop-all-mobile-phones/Moto-E/moto-e.html) does have. Scroll to the bottom of the page for network specs.

Also, like sky121 suggested, BLU has some nice international phones. I have a Dash 4.5 which is not bad and has dual SIM slots.

There are also non name-brand smart phones that will be cheaper.

I'm due for an upgrade with Verizon and want to get a smartphone. My choices are the iPhone 5 or Galaxy 5 for $100 or a Galaxy 4 for $50. Is there a big difference between the Galaxy 4 and 5 and how do they compare to the iPhone.

What about the Droid Turbo? Is that an option? $1 at BestBuy.

I don't see any huge differences between the s4 and the s5. The s5 is weightier and the screen is a tad bigger. Everything is slightly improved.

For $50 it is usually worth it to get the newer device. While the difference may not be huge now, as the phones get older and software changes, the newer devices usually hold and keep up much better than their predecessors.

As for Galaxy vs iPhone - it is a matter of personal preference. Go into a store and try them both out.

And another vote for the Droid Turbo - I've never used it, but I know and love its older (and smaller) brother, the Moto X.

Before you make any decisions based on these prices you should just know that you'll find different prices if you look around. You don't  have to buy from Verizons website, check the pricing at Best buy, staples, amazon etc. Almost a year ago I got my s4 at best buy for free, they had it for free on and off every few weeks, can't imagine that now you'd have to pay $50 for it

While I'd always prefer to spend less instead of more, what is most important to me is speed. More speed = more business = it eventually pays back the higher cost. But used should be fine
