I am based in Israel and frequently fly on Business ElAl (for work). Should I credit miles to AA instead of Matmid?
Does anyone know how many AA miles you'd get on a ElAl TLV-JFK (say on a Z class), I know it's 350 Matmid points but no clue about AA?
Many thanks!

Thanks for that. I carefully read the post and noted that Dan said he would "definitely credit ElAl flights to AA". However I couldn't find how many AA miles I would earn by doing this; any thoughts?

Correct me if I'm wrong: that mean that to get a free TLV-JFK on AA miles one needs 45k, which is equivalent to 6.4 flights in Z class (7096 each)?
If you use ElAl you only need 2 flights in Z class (350 points) in order to get a "free" trip on ElAl points (700) ??

Seems like you're right and in this case you should probably credit to LY. Though IINM you're paying YQ on a LY award ticket.

350 elal miles are worth wayyy more then 7k AA.

G class only earns 50% when crediting to AA. H earns 100%. Meanwhile, when crediting to LY you'll probably get 100% even on G. I would still credit everything to AA because you will not have what to do with so few Matmid miles, besides if you plan on flying a lot with LY on cheap fare classes that's a different story.

Online on Emirates it says I'd only get 7,000 Tier points.
The actual distance flown using the Mileage Calculator (http://www.webflyer.com/travel/mileage_calculator/getmileage.php?city=JFK&city=DXB&city=BOM&city=&city=&city=&bonus=0&bonus_use_min=0&class_bonus=0&class_bonus_use_min=0&promo_bonus=0&promo_bonus_use_min=0&min=0&min_type=m&ticket_price=0) is 8,030 each way (16,060 RT).
From what I've seen on online, it seems like Alaska might be the best option, even though it only gets 50% miles.
Does that mean I'm only getting 3,500 miles for the flights if I credit to Alaska?
Are there better options?

KE is probably more valuable than FB, however, since it's only a small amount, and the chance of me redeeming FB is much greater than redeeming KE, for me, FB is probably the way to go.
Thanks though.

Don't know about the details. But for infrequent flight, chances are, that wherever you credit them you won't have what to do with them.
Unless you credit it to a plan than you could earn more on a CC or something.

I just want to note that this thread is completely irrelevant for most cases since if you're a non frequent flyer than you should try to have the least miles account as possible (max 3 for each alliance. But I'd advise you to stick with one alliance and one account) because even if you earn an extra hundred or thousand miles from one flight it won't help you since you virtually can't do anything with 5k miles. And if you're a frequent flyer with enough flight to justify a few accounts than you probably know where to credit them.... Just saying.

QF you can transfer points between "family" accounts.
The question is if you want QF points.

Need advice on where to credit Cathay Pacific paid I class ticket for NYC-HKG-NYC.
the way i see it, there are really 2 options:
1. i'm an Alaska MVP gold member, (via status match) so crediting to Alaska, would get me about 40K AS miles?
2. crediting to AA, but seems worthwhile only if it can be combined with a AA Plat challenge?
* is the challenge still being offered?
* do Cathay flights qualify for the challenge?
I'm leaning towards crediting to AS, but was hoping to get confirmation on the above, or advice if there are other options that i have overlooked?
many thanks

I hear that. I guess the take away is that you need something in writing to make sure you get it which is not the best spot to be in right now. Ask if they plan on fixing that or if they plan on just not crediting N. Please let us know.

SQ gives 100% miles for UA S, T, L, K, G fares. I may just not fly UA enough anymore to have N fares on the brain.
Seems like it won't work. Is it even possible for UA to change your fare class? I'm not asking if they will, just if they could.

To W or G class?
From your chart both are 100% to Krisflyer so whichever is cheaper/available I suppose.
CMIIW but according to your chart why not upgrade for 7500 to Y (http://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/mileageplus/awards/travel/awardTravel.aspx) which also gets you 100%?

I didn't know you could even do that. I'll have to look into it.
-
After calling UA a couple times the unanimous opinion is that you cannot upgrade with miles to another economy fare, just business. They won't charge you a change fee to buy a higher fare class, but I'm not paying $486/person for a measly 2422 SQ miles.

Hmm. Interesting. I wonder what that chart with those economy fare miles upgrades is supposed to be for then.

Not sure. I wanted the rep to look at that page online, but she wouldn't.
I just called cause I was curios myself and she looked at the chart with me and told me that the miles listed there are to upgrade to business/first. She said you can't use miles to upgrade within economy to a different fare but did say that for a change fee ($200) they can change the fare class within economy no questions asked.
I guess its YMMV and DROPR in one.

Yup! Oh well, I'll just get my 600 UA miles out of it.

I have platinum status with United (I fly every week within us and Canada) but find myself flying Air Canada quite often. Im having a hard time deciding which airline i should have my status with, United or Air Canada? any insight would be appreciated.

UA would give him 5x, meaning 2x 6124 and 2x 5428 - all utterly useless. I'm thinking SQ, which would give him something more useful such as EWR-LAX in J.
Anyone have a better idea?

A freind flies a significant amount - mainly from the UK to the USA. All paid economy flights. Until now he accumulated miles (and status) on AA which was perfect, as they were used mainly for UK-US economy redemptions.
However, now that BA flights no longer earn full miles on AA, what should he do?
In the next 18 months he will most likely fly on the following economy round trips:
LHR - JFK X 4
LHR - ORD X 1
LHR - YYZ X 1
JFK - Chile X 1
LHR - Hong Kong - Australia - LHR X 1
He can try and do all of those on OneWorld members, but won't be able to do all of them on a single airline.
Earning BA Avios doesn't seem like the best option, because of their high YQ. He does not fly domesticly in the USA cery much to make that worth it.
What's his best option? Continue earning with AA and make as many of those trips as possible on AA? Posting to a different OW partner?

DW was on a cancelled AF flight from TLV-JFK (because of the strikes) on an award ticket in J. She was rebooked on Air Canada (El Al and Delta were full) via Toronto on a--what I assume--full fare J ticket.
She only had a ticket number, not a PNR on the boarding pass, so I was unable to add a UA FFN online. She added it at the gate... This morning, I was looking at my spreadsheet and realized I gave her MY UA FFN.

Birthright or not birthright every ticket is booked into a fare-class and each fare class has earning rates ranging from 0 to 300% depending on the airline. Just check the fare-class and work from there.

It's false. I flew LX with birthright last year, and while it's definitely a very restricted fare class, and apparently a specially negotiated fare, it does still earn. See photo below with my account activity.

As a plat, DL will give me ~5k, while AS ~2.8k. Considering this will be my only flight under this DL FFN, I'm leaning towards AS, as 5k DL sitting in an abandoned account won't do me any good.
Here's my question: the flight wasn't booked from the DL account; the DL FFN was added later. If I now put in my AS number instead, will the plat benefits disappear, or the PNR will still show as a plat account?
Or is all this not worth it and just credit to DL...

Will not get plat benefits, change the FFN to AS at the gate after you're upgraded etc.

I can choose between the following:
1171 Delta miles
1074 Alaskan miles
1341 Virgin Atlantic miles

Should I take Delta, although they're not worth so much, because it's the one that I will most likely have enough some day for some reward ticket?

Based on reading here my understanding is SQ gives 100% and UA less than half that based on cost, so SQ is the obvious choice.
What about for little kids, to get more miles into the SQ account to have enough to fly am thinking I'll need to transfer from MR which means getting a card in their name? Is there another way?
To rehash, someone upthread said I might be able to transfer TYP if last name is the same. It didnt work for me.
Chase, I see only ability to transfer to spouse, not kids. So then I will have about 10k SQ points in kids accounts, not sure what I could do with them. I think minimum for one way in US is 12.5 k. Any thoughts?

Chase transfers instantly to United. You have 24 hours to change or cancel without a fee.
There are ways around the $75 close-in booking fee.

However unless you have a United Club card or have elite status you’ll get hit with a $75 expedite/close-in fee:
I thought it doesn't help to have the cc to waive the fee? (or is the club card referring to something else then the cc? )

Booked a flight on AF, ORD-CDG-TLV in V (ORD-CDG legs) and L, which look to get 25% and 50% respectively. Since they get the same percentage, I was thinking to credit it to AS since those miles would be more valuable to me. AF "rebooked" me on a new flight outbound ORD-CDG basically 30 minutes earlier and now my ticket for that flight says Y class, which should get 100% accrual. Just curious if this happened to anyone before and they got the higher amount of miles.

It's 014, so that's AC.
That means 200% * miles flown = 25,000 UA, right?
Curiously, if it were purchased through UA, it would yield fewer UA miles, because it would have been 5*(price paid), which, at most, would have been 22,000 UA.

IMHO a decision to credit towards one program or another depends not only on how many miles one earns, but on overall prospects for accumulation and redemption (including past accumulation).

Based on this (http://www.wheretocredit.com/united-airlines/p) seems like AC will give you 150% flown (http://www.gcmap.com/dist?P=man-ewr%0D%0A&DU=mi&DM=&SG=&SU=mph), and while TAP might give you 200%, what else are you going to accumulate and use there?

No one can answer your without knowing which class your ticket is booked in. To get the answer you'll need to find that out. If you can't find it on your res. call the airline and they should be able to tell you. Once you have that check out the link in the wiki.

Called the airline, they told me it's fare class O.
It looks to me like the best option would be Alaskan because it gives 100 percent, whereas AA would only give 25%. The only thing is that I rarely use Alaskan so I would have to find out their expiration policy.

Is there a DDMS explains how this works? You credit your flight to a different airline? That means for example if I have a delta flight I shouldn’t add my SkyMiles number to the reservation but rather a different mileage account?

Correct. It's about figuring out which milage program will give you the most for your flight. Obviously, you can only credit to select programs depending on who you fly.

If you plan on flying PS again, you can credit the flights to PS where you'll get just above 10K miles (including a 1K birthday bonus but it doesn't have to match with your DOB...) And that is enough for an upgrade from most fare classes to Premium Economy between JFK-KBP.
You can also credit to Flying Blue where you'll earn about 8K miles.

You have to PUTPAC to add a FFN (obviously it won't work for the segments you already flew, you'll have to claim retroactively).
They don't have E+, they have a seperate Premium cabin that won't show on the seat map if you have an Economy ticket.

Thanks but that answers my Q on a theoretical level not a practical level. Looking for a more practical answer like 1 +1 = 2 not a theoretical go figure out yourself ;D, no offense, thanks for helping @davidrotts63.
Also asking if anyone has used KLM miles before and credited them to an airline to redeem for miles TLV - JFK.

It effects the amount you earn, and will also let us know if he is entirely ineligible.

Fair enough.
AF may deem it ineligible because the fare was probably sold as CDG-???, making it have no base fare for the the AF leg.
Just speculation.

What do you lose by trying? You seem to have made your choice to credit to AA. If they dont credit then you can credit to any of the other ones.

Delta is listed on the bottom. But seems like you dont earn miles.

You don't seem so certain that it was O class, that makes me doubt too... O seems to be an award fare which would make sense not to earn any miles.

i couldnt seem to get a straight answer from UX so i am calling now to get a ticket number and see if that works when requesting the miles through delta.

Newbie here and I have read a bunch of this thread, but could use some help.
I am looking to book NYC-SIN on Korean Air in Prestige Class (R fare booking class).
Should I book this via Delta.com or is it better to book via Korean Air and credit to Delta? I am a Delta Gold Medallion and looked at wheretocredit.com but I dont really understand the difference. Also, can I earn MQMs this way or is this only about the redeemable miles?
Thanks!

You can purchase it at either place, but IMO credit to Delta for the following reasons:
-You will get 200% miles
-You will earn an additional 60% miles due to status
-You will obtain MQM & 40% MQD
The only downside is that you'll end up with Skymiles which are not as valuable, but have been climbing lately.
Are you trying to get status or miles from another Skyteam partner?
-
Thanks. Maybe I'm thinking about it wrong, but I want Delta status. This trip will get me to Platinum and a Japan trip later this year will get close to Diamond. I fly Delta all the time for work, but a lot of short hops. Higher status is great. The MQD might be an issue though...
At about 5k I'd be getting about 45k miles if I book via delta. Not sure what I'd get if i book Korean and credit to delta.
-
I really am new to this - can anyone help me with my analysis? I am flying NYC-SIN via ICN on Korean Air in Business Class (Prestige Class R) and I can book on Korean's site and credit to Delta or book direct on Delta's website.
a) NYC-SIN is 9,529 miles on Great Circle Mapper.
b) I am a Delta Gold Medallion so there is a status bonus
c) The flight costs $5,157
If I book on Korean, I think I would earn:
Miles - 49,550 (9,529 x 2 x 260%) - mileage flown x 2 ways x (100% base + 100% class bonus + 60% status bonus)
MQD - $7,623 (9,529 x 2 x 40%) - mileage flown x 2 ways x partner MQD %
MQM - 28,587 (9,529 x 2 x 150%) - mileage flown x 2 ways x partner MQM %
If I book on Delta.com, they estimate my earning as:
Miles - 40,320
MQD - $5,040
MQM - 29,326
It looks like I would earn more redeemable miles, more MQDs but slightly fewer MQMs if I book on Korean.
Does this analysis look correct? Appreciate any help - I am trying
-
Can anyone help? I would like to book this and am told there shouldn't be any difference between Delta and Korean on this but that doesnt seem right.

I'll be flying a short-haul Brussels Airlines flight in a few days. I currently have my Miles&More account listed, but with M&M's stingy expiration policy, that's probably a waste (there is no chance whatsoever that I will build up enough M&M points to use within 36 months). I don't have status anywhere. Where should I credit my miles? It's a Check&Go fare - maybe booking class F?
I'm sure this isn't worth much, but if I can do better than M&M, I might as well.
