I highly doubt it. GUM was only killed because the DOT got involved. Given the amount of time it lived after being publicized, I highly doubt AV has gotten any better.
Supposedly, the UA station in NRT also started keeping a log of empty legs NRT-GUM on LM issued awards.

You think the others may live longer because they're less heavily publicized or bc they're less "trick" fares and more zone anomalies?

A blogger booked a tricked routing with Lifemiles. He was denied boarding and filed a DOT complaint. LM was fined and certain tricked routings were shut down as a result.

That $175 surcharge (actually closer to $200) is taxes that every passenger leaving the U.K. has to pay, even on paid flights.

Upcoming Lifemiles devaluation. Effective October 13.
New award chart here (https://www.lifemiles.com/eng/tra/pro/proredenrow.aspx).

In most cases, Lifemiles still beats UA, especially for first class.

How many LifeMiles is it worth buying at the transfer .5cpp rate just to have?
I do plan to do traveling in the next couple years, but for the most part it is to Eretz Yisroel for now.

I don't know enough about miles yet to know how the 10/15/14 13% devaluation affects the worthwhileness of LifeMiles.

Tried to book a HC with LM for a flight to TLV. Got a response from them that they don't allow my proposed routing as total travel time is too long. So they booked me on different flights with shorter layovers. Never mind that the routing that they booked includes backtracking transit zones, and total flown miles is longer.

I figured that the longer routing that they booked might yield greater mileage savings, but they quoted me 70k instead of 78k (I was expecting it to be around 61k).

It's bad enough to try to find the connection you want online, you want them to come up with a custom routing that will generate HC pricing online?   ::)

When booking a Lifemiles award via email, it's impossible to check-in online on TK.

Arrived at JFK 50 minutes before departure, initially was told that flight is closed, but when I said I'm in J they let me check in (and then escorted me through security). I told them to check my bags only until TLV, check-in agent refused, but supervisor made it happen after some effort.

Why not? Rather long layover. Enough time to exit the airport and return. Upon exiting aircraft in TLV there was a person holding a sign with my name. When I inquired what that is about, he said that since I am in transit he will escort me. I told him I plan to exit the airport. He radioed someone and got an OK to let me proceed.

In any event my luggage didn't make it with me.

AFAIK there's no 24 hour free cancelation policy, and even there was, I wouldn't count on it.

Though I once had to cancel a ticket and rebook into something else, and was charged less than the published rate. I am guessing that it might have been because the first leg was domestic rather than international.

Individual segments or connection?

If individual segments show up but not connection, you can request booking by sending screenshots and a copy of your passport via email.

TK flight, booked with LM. Flight canceled.

EIGHT FREAKING HOURS spent on the phone so far. Turkish says Avianca needs to fix, Avianca says Turkish. I finally conference them together, and get a new shpeil: I need to physically go down to the TK NY ticket office, they're the only ones who can touch the ticket.

Why was the flight cancelled? Is it related to to IST airport switch?

Did you try the TLV ticketing office of TK? I’ve had good experience with them (email and phone).

NY office is very responsive via email. Nyc.ticketing at thy dotcom or call 212 261 0470
TK has this rule with its points for partner awards only. So your routing involves partners TK rep is defaulting to their rules. I can almost guarantee its an Avianca issue, not TK.

Indeed NYC office is quite responsive, but I found the TLV office to be even better. Not sure what their Friday hours are, but won’t hurt to send an email now to sales.tlv@THY.COM though it really sounds weird that you’re being told to deal with TK, as the ticket is an AV ticket with an AV ticket number (even if Travel is entirely on TK).

So it only took around 12 hours on the phone, but I have a flight again.

Tried the TK TLV office a couple of times last night, got stuck on hold and dropped calls until I decided to pawn it off to @Moishebatchy. I figured that yelling in Hebrew will be more effective than yelling in English. He finally got through to them, and after an hour of acrobatics, got me confirmed on the earlier TK flight that I wanted.

Note that I said "confirmed", not "ticketed". For that I needed to go back to LM, which is where all good ideas go to die.

2 hours on the phone with them, conferencing in a LM rep, and LM supervisor, a TK rep, and a TK supervisor. Got absolutely nowhere. TK claims they made the change, and LM claims they don't see any change. (I was able to see the change in the TK PNR, FWIW.)

After 2 hours we give up and instead conference LM with the TK NY office. Which didn't pick up the phone....

In the end LM was able to rebook my on a regular *A flight that had award availability. Way less than ideal, but at this point I just ant to get there , so I'm finally confirmed and ticketed on LX.

....Whose "system is currently down", so I can't select a KSML 🤣

Live more and travel with your miles! To access the best mileage, plan your trips in advance, and if you don’t have enough miles, remember to use our products to earn or speed up your accrual, such as: LifeMiles + Money, Club LifeMiles or Multiply Your Miles.

Interesting.  I had a issue where it errored out just before booking and I knew that the flights is available because I saw it on United. So I called and they gave me this option. They created a PNR. And about an hour later someone called me back for my credit card. They did not ask for any booking fees

Mine didn't go through yet. They say they are still "working on it".

Got the following email:

Quote
As you may be aware from recent news, Avianca is going through some significant managerial & Board changes at the moment. As a result of this news, some LifeMiles members have asked us about the future of the LifeMiles program and of their miles.

We would like to reassure you that LifeMiles will continue to be the loyalty program of Avianca for many years to come.  In fact, going forward, we only expect both Avianca and LifeMiles to be stronger and better than ever.

In addition to the above, we should clarify that Avianca Brazil and Avianca Argentina, as well as their respective loyalty programs, are managed and owned separately from Avianca and LifeMiles. Accordingly, impacts on Avianca Brazil, Avianca Argentina, and/or their respective loyalty programs, do not affect LifeMiles in any way.

We are committed to continue striving to provide the best possible service and value for our members, and we thank you for your loyalty!

Best,

The LifeMiles Team

Whenever someone tells you not to be concerned, might be the time to be concerned.

It is not user friendly, and they do not show all flights you see on United , I have the same problems with Virgin Atlantic. Also Life miles stopped showing the miles expiration date which is really bothersome, i emailed them to check my miles expiry date and the wanted me to send them a copy of my passport, i think they will eventually face a CAS for not displaying the expiration date.

Just did a transfer. It posted with a 25% bonus. So I went to check the terms of the promo and here's what I discovered:

Is this how they count to 48?

In any event. Time of transfer was definitely before 12:59PM at GMT-6, so bonus should apply. Maybe the extra 5% takes a little longer.

It’s obviously a mistake. They meant 11:59 pm. Because when I go into the email I got about the extra 5% it has a countdown timer. And as of 2:50 pm EST, it   still has 11 hours and 12 minutes to go

You can never know. I managed (unintentionally) to do a second award redemption before they debited the miles of the previous one. They then sent me an email asking me to make up for the negative mileage balance in my account in order to unlock it.

Lifemiles won't show the last available ticket. That might be why you didn't see the saver award because that was the last one. As for why it would show a flight selling for 32.5K beats me.

Yes, there can be a code on top of that. That's the PNR. That means the reservation was created but not ticketed. You need to call LM and give them your CC info for processing. There system is messed up these days so it can take some time.

If there is no code, call LM to see it they can book it manually. You need to call during LM English buisness hours except if you know Spanish.

Use the PNR and contact airline you'll be flying on  to choose seat and see if it was ticketed. If your CC was charged your most likely ticketed, give or take 24hr.

You can contact airline via phone or website ETC.

To answer some of the above questions.

UA bus awards show as UPGRADED even when booked directly with them or with LM, I booked with both programs and they show UPGRADED.

LM had an issue last week where credit cards couldn't be charged you had to call in the morning. They told me that Amex will charge instantly and V/MC may take longer to ticket and confirm.

+1 not sure about Amex vs Visa.

I have used a Visa and needed to call in for payment. Just save the PNR from during booking process and use that to identify the booking.

They will follow up with you for payment, so no worries.

https://www.lifemiles.com/lockandfly

Now you can lock the mileage today and redeem later for Avianca flights.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could set-aside your seat and lock-in that fare for a while without actually redeeming the required miles? LifeMiles’ new Lock and Fly makes this possible.

With Lock and Fly, you can ensure the seat(s) won’t get sold, and the mileage won’t go up, giving you time to:

Coordinate with friends or family before booking, helping to avoid costly change fees
Transfer your bank points to miles, or qualify for a welcome bonus via a new LifeMiles credit card, to top up your balance before redeeming
You can lock the mileage for 3 days for as little as US$8.00* and complete the redemption as soon as you confirm the trip or complete the required miles to redeem the ticket; or if you need more time, you can Lock and Fly for a longer period too.

Booked an Air Canada tickets via LIfeMiles.
Name is Chaim - on email confirmation from LifeMiles says Chaim - at check in and on ticket says “Chai”.
Anyone had this before?
Will this make a TSA issue?

Thank you, Air Canada confirmed they have a bug in there system - any name with the letter “m” at the end e.g. Adam the system moves the M as a title.
So no problem.

Yes.
Dan, is this new?

I'm pretty sure that despite providing my UA CC to Lifemiles, the United booking was showing a different last 4 digits, thus UA did not recognize the booking being completed with the card. Similar issue with Singapore mileage tix, and bookings using Chase UR when UMPC is used for a small amount.

Lifemiles up to 125% bonus through 2/27

1000-10000 100% Bonus
11000-50000 105% Bonus
51000-100000- 115% Bonus
101000+ 125% Bonus

This is a good combo with the 33% off Star Alliance flights Here: https://www.lifemiles.com/deals/detail-page (https://www.lifemiles.com/deals/detail-page)

This would make the new 60000 business redemption cost around 990$ (Example YVR-TPE and visa-versa)

Also LAX-TPE
Also LAX-HKG

Try with UA directly.
If you miss your flight it would be UA rebooking you at their discretion as too, if to charge.

I find it interesting that Life Miles uses your id number that you enter upon signing up as your member id number. They just add 2 digits at the end..
Would love to hear opinions on this.

In this post: https://www.dansdeals.com/credit-cards/credit-cards-points-start-need-know-best-credit-cards/#When_to_use_bank_points_and_when_to_transfer_to_miles
it says "Alternatively, you can transfer 6.5K points to Avianca Lifemiles for a Cleveland-LaGuardia flight on United:"
Do any other routes work? I tried a few and the only one that had available flights was this specific route.

It doesn't work for any United flight?

There has to be saver award availability on United. At times, even when there is saver space, it doesn't show up on LM.

United needs to have Saver availability to be bookable by partners

While there is expanded availability for cardholders, you should still be able to see some saver space without it. Anything you can't see without a card, Lifemiles can't see either.

I transferred Capital-One points to Cardholders LifeMiles account almost 12 hrs ago, but points still haven't showed up in LifeMiles. Called Capital One they claimed the points transferred instantly. Called LifeMiles they said that they have not received any points yet and it could take up to 8 days...

What is this supposed to mean?
Don't they usually transfer instantly?
Any experience with this?

I had LM award tickets that I booked b4 corona for later this month. The airline cancelled one of the flights so I am entitled to a refund. I called them and they said it will take 5 months for the taxes and fees to be refunded. They also said they won't refund the booking fees. (a total of $175 for 5 tickets). Any suggetions? I am thinking of filing a DOT complaint but should I wait till they actually process the refund? I don't have anything in writing.

I finally did my transfer today, days after the 25% bonus deal for transfers from Citi supposedly ended. I needed 12,500 LifeMiles, so I transferred 13,000 from Citi. Oddly, the LifeMiles transaction history shows a transfer of 16,250 (which happens to be equal to 13,000 X 1.25) but the balance shows as 0 so I can’t book the flight. Is it normal for there to be a delay between when the miles transfer appears in the activity and when they become available to book a flight?

I reached them on the phone. They said it could take up to 24 hours for the balance to update.
ETA: Less than an hour later, before the balance updated, the Saver award I was eyeing is sold out. Ouch.
