Title: Bronx zoo on Wednesday?
Post by: cozmohoot on July 09, 2014, 07:31:25 AM
Anyone know if it's really too crazy to go to the zoo on a Wednesday? Are there way too many people since it's free? Tia

I've been there on a Wednesday. It was pretty busy but not overley crazy. I got there at opening and left around 2. It was getting busier as I was leaving.

During the summer it is crazy on Wednesdays. Tons of camps go. Not worth the hassle.

Bronx zoo is not worth the hassle period.  You end up walking a mile to see 3 animals, then walking two miles in circles looking for a bathroom, then walking a mile back to your car covered in shvitz.

The only decent part is the Asia Monorail, but query why if you already paid admission to the zoo, you need to pay again to see the animals.

What you just described is most large zoos. If you think you shvitzed at the Bronx Zoo, you should try the Miami Zoo (another fantastic zoo IMO). The smaller a zoo is, the less likely they are to have anything interesting.

I went the day after pesach. The kids really enjoyed it. It was full but we were still able to see everything. (Weather was much better then)

Miami Zoo is FAR superior than the bronx zoo.  Although I have no idea how they can possibly be open during the summer.

I assume you mean in your opinion. Either way, I liked them about equally, with the edge to the Bronx Zoo for nostalgia.

I was there in the summer. They do have these nice cooling station along the walkways, and it's really a necessity as you can imagine. The animals laze about in the shade far more in the summer though, so you don't get to see as much as you would in the winter.

Bronx zoo is unique for
1. Too much space between exhibits.  Other zoos I've been to have them much closer.
2. Far too few bathrooms, and far too much space between them, and far too little signage point you to them.
3. Far too few places to sit down along the paths.
4. Charging admission to see the animals after you've already paid general admission to the zoo.

You clearly have not been to the Miami Zoo. The exhibits are just as spread out, and they charge for the monorail there as well.

I'm not saying this is the norm, maybe these are the only 2 zoos like that, but I doubt it.

On Wednesdays there are many animals both in and out of the cages.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad my wife decided it would be too hot to go today.

Best time is spring or autumn. It's too hot to go anywhere today. Besides Le Marais of course.

Old thread, but better than starting a new one.

1 - How is the Zoo on a Wednesday Chol HaMoed Sukkos?

2 - Even if the zoo is crowded on Wednesday, what about the attractions you pay separately for (Children's Zoo, Wild Asia Monorail, Jungle World, etc.) - are they regular or overcrowded?

If you can spend the 2 hours drive, Philadelphia Zoo is fantastic.

True, but if you have full membership at the Bronx Zoo it includes great stuff like Children's Zoo, Wild Asia Monorail, Jungle World, etc.
