I'll start off the newest master thread with 2 question.
A)Does the United method for avoiding close in fee work with Aeroplan?
B)Is any ticket available with United Miles, also with Aeroplan if I call up?
-
A - huh? Since when does UA charge YQ?
B - Yes, besides if its UA expended availability for card holders or elites.

A) Huh? Since when does Aeroplan charge a close-in fee?
My mistake. I'm looking at a flight from YYZ to BOS. Aeroplan charges $115.79 in taxes and fees. Strangely, United charges $129.30 for the same flight includung the close-in fee. without that it would be $54.30. Before looking at a the breakdown I assumed it included a close-in fee. However Aeroplan only charges 7500 miles for the one-way flight.

Its YQ.

Thats regarding BA. This is regarding Aeroplan.

Aeroplan charges one of the taxes as well that zUA doesn't. Not sure which, as I'm on the go now. IIRC its not the YQ, as there is no YQ on this route

If I book an Aeroplan award, can I cancel within 24 hrs + within 24hrs of the flight?
You can't cancel an Aeroplan award for free, even with in 24 hrs of booking. The only thing you'd be able to do is -
Until 2 hours before departure.
1) Cancel without redeposit. Cost: $90.
2) Change the flight to a flight 21 days out and then cancel with redeposit. Cost $180

Is this a valid routing? WAW-KBP-FRA-EWR, with a stop less than 24 hours in KBP? If allowed... Will it be charged 45k or 52.5k?

Is this phantom? Blackout dates?

I'm trying to book Barcelona -Zurich -NY within 24hr connection with Aeroplan, but I'm getting an error

UA is now blocking OZ availability, period. ANA is blocking it because OZ officially has blackout dates and you're probably looking on the blackout dates. But it seems that OZ does not enforce the blackout dates so Aeroplan is displaying them. Who gave you an error? ANA or AC?

AC gives the error. UA wasn't able to see it over the phone either.
When are the blackout dates?
I am looking at May 17-18 SFO-PNH.

I don't think blocking means what you think it means.
US used to "block" LH F.
LM currently "blocks" LH F.
American isn't blocking CX F. Nor is Delta blocking TN J.

Correct. I should of used the word "not displaying". They might be blocking it as well, but I never checked that. However, the story with OZ is still unclear, it seems from Aeroplan that they don't block the availability on the blackout dates. So they just don't let you confirmed a ressy on that dates? And if they do release availability, why doesn't UA see them? (Unless UA ideed blockes OZ availability)

When looking on united I have 6 business seats available from lga to tlv with a stop in yyz.
Though when I look it up on aeroplan I get hit with $500 a seat in fees, and I only get it with 2 stops!
Is there an explanation?
Am I missing something?

I have an Aeroplan ticket for Passenger X who can no longer fly, but turns out that passenger Y (account holder) needs to fly the same route same time.
Both have the same last name.
I can't just cancel ticket and reissue, as it is within 21 days.
I called Aeroplan and said that the wrong first name was used, but they won't change it because the dates of births are completely different.
[They have Passenger X's DOB from time of booking and Passenger Y's DOB on the account, as he is account holder.]
I assume there is no point with HUCA here.
Questions:
1. Is it possible to reschedule departure date for more than 21 days and then cancel (with double $90 penalty)?
2. Any other ideas?

I once had a similar thing I needed to change passenger name and destination, and the rep helped me out,she said lets first change it to more then 21 days out. I helped find avaibility charged me $90 and then another $90 to redeposit the miles.

I booked a ticket with Aeroplan (on United) and misspelled one letter of the passengers name. Aeroplan wants $90 to cancel and re-book, claiming they cannot change the name they have to cancel and re-book the ticket. United also claims they have no access and only Aroplan would be able to change it.
Is there any way i can change the one letter and not be charged$90?

They didn't charge me.
But that's only if one leg is initially booked in the higher cabin (such as in AJK's scenario).
If you were to upgrade a clean Y ticket to J or J to F, that would incur the change fee.

Hey, so thinking of taking a summer vacation in a couple of months, but I have a 7 month old baby. Seems only Aeroplan and BA are worth it in premium cabins. I will have 80K MR and my wife will have around 70K MR, plus she has like 15K SPG.
Any ideas for great redemptions in biz/1st class using Aeroplan?
And does Amex still let transfers to diff accounts e.g. my wife's MR to my Aeroplan?
-
Also have other miles, so even a one-way will be good with Aeroplan

Aeroplan is low or no YQ on LX?

Anything better I should be looking at in terms of MR transfer partners?

It's not official, they just have very flexible routing rules, for example you can do TLV - US - AUS - TLV on one award.

I have 2 OW F tickets for a LH flight within 21 days from Europe to USA. (62.5K points each)
I want to cancel the flight & get refunded.
I understand that ideally I would need to change to after 21 days then cancel & pay 2 x $90.
The problem is that LH does not release First seats that far out.
They tell me that if I change to a lower priced award, I lose the difference in points.
What are my options? Thanks in advance.

You're right, IFTFM. I meant the point of no trail flight.

One stop + one OJ = free "trail" flight.

He said:
Can one book a roundtrip international flight using AC miles, from Nyc, and then stopover in Nyc on the way back as long as they want, and then fly to Hawaii - like united ?
He wants to return to his departure city, so no trail flight afterwards....

If I'm allowed 2 stopovers then why can't I have a trail flight ? Why is it limited to an open jaw ?!

I thought once you get back to your departing city, the itinerary is over. I guess I'm wrong.

Please ccmiw, as long as I stop in a city less then 24hrs then that's considered a connection and not a stop over, Example NYC- XXX ( less then 24hrs ) - TLV - open jaw XXX-NYC and then I can still tack on HNL, and NYC will be my stopover ?

<24 hours = layover, not stopover.
No, you could not do what you're suggesting: NYC-XXX-TLV // XXX-NYC // NYC-HNL
That's 2 OJs.

Might be a $150 or so change fee involved. Not 100% certain.. But Swiss opens up late to partners & Lot is a rare find to begin with.. Your best bet is 70k UA with no YQ. Or 50k AA via TXL or DUS with AB
This isnt the right thread though to discuss this

If J opens on the same flight that you are booked in, there is no fee change.

FTR, their change fee is $90 (not saying you'll be charged).

Only it's not automatic and no pr-1 status.
And one leg needs to be booked in J.

Upthread it says, there is only no change fee, if one leg on the trip was originally booked into J, but if both were in Y then they will charge you. Is that correct, it will it be free either way ?

If you need to add miles then there is a change fee.

also any difference in tax, will be recalculated

The question is do you get the mileage back if you stay in Y? For example: You book RT NYC-BUD RT, outbound is J on both legs and inbound the short-haul is J but the long-haul is in Y.

No, u dont

When I try booking NYC-VCE stopover, then VCE-IST -TLV, as part of a multi city search, ( The flights are all showing available on UA ) the system keeps on giving me a error message , saying it's not valid. Am I doing something wrong, or is this just an example of how bad Aeroplans website is ?

That's not a valid multi city on Aeroplan.
There would need to be a TLV-NYC tacked on the end to be valid.

As long as there's no OJ at any point of of the booking (middle or end), it should be searchable online without any issues.

Use United to find availability, then head to Aeroplan to price it out.
Aeroplan has "routing rules" that need to be taken into account to get the best use out of their website.

Does aeroplan allow an open jaw from two different regions ?

Is there a better number to call, other then the one on AC's website, to get through to some more competent reps.
There are multiple Brussels flights that show up on UA, EF, and LH, but none of these agents can find it.
Heck, they never even heard of the word long sell. Gosh this is frustrating.

Try the words "manual request" or "request the space manually" and always say a supervisor told me that some fights this is what needs to be done to book it.
It just took me today 5 HUCA to book an LH flight that wasn't showing.

I've used all these words, just not the supervisor, but I see it can take a few hucas. I'll keep on trying.
But, is it at all possible that the award is not available to AC at all, or if it's showing up on the other sites, it's always available to AC too ?

Is there a difference in miles, whether I attach a RT Europe-Tlv to a RT NYC-Europe, or book it separately ?
Together = 80k/165k
Europe 1 seperate = 60k/90k + 50k/75k
Europe 2 separate = 75k/105k + 50k/75k
-
Is there a difference in miles, whether I attach a RT Europe-Tlv to a RT NYC-Europe, or book it separately ?
Might be a good idea to book 90k RT to Warsaw, Zurich, Geneva, London & then book a RT ticket with $$ if its cheap Europe-TLV... If you can keep it to the Star alliance you can check the baggage right through.. There used to be agreements between airlines even if they werent in the same alliance but its getting very rare these days
-
That's not going to work, since I'm stopping in Vce on the way.
My problem is that I don't want to have to use the extra miles for J, when all I'm getting now in J is the Europe-TLV part, and not the long haul NYC-Europe. There is no more Y available on the flight I'll need RT Europe-TLV, so now I'm not sure if I should book separately, and save the miles, or book as one, and hope J opens up.

Is there anyway to set up on AC, when booking RT J, where some segments are in Y, for those segments to be automatically changed to J, being that that's what you paid for, or do I have to keep on checking, and call AC to change it ?

you have to keep checking

1) Till when can I change my AC itinerary, is it up till 24 hours before the flight, or anytime ?
2) if I'm originally booked on a flight that charges YQ, and change to one that doesn't have, I'll get refunded the difference, correct ?
3) Can I switch from a flight with a connection, to a direct one ?

I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place.
I noticed recently that domestic destinations such as i.e. EWR-DEN that was always FIXED MILEAGE of 12.5K miles is now 25K miles (for econonmy/coach)....making it twice as expensive as United. Am I looking in the wrong place or something? i never heard of Aeroplan devaluing their miles by that much.
Thanks.

My friend has a amex account that he needs to transfer out all the MR points. I was going to transfer all to aeroplan because he wanted to use them on star alliance NYC to western Europe and aeroplan was the best option for business. Now with this devaluation. What is my best option to transfer the amex point to ?
-
Maybe SQ, but this is not terrible.
-
Sq is 130k round trip in business. Aeroplan is 120. So i guess I will stick with aeroplan
-
So this is my aeroplan nightmare.
Was looking for JFK-BUD on 3/26. AC showed 1 seat in J JFK-WAW-BUD. Searched for the second seat and the itinerary changed from J on the WAW-BUD leg to Y for both passengers. I booked the first one knowing there were 2 J seats on the JFK-WAW long haul. I went back to book the second on with the Y short-haul seat and i wasnt able to book at all. PUTPAC twice, they informed me its phantom availability. Went to UA and booked the exact same second seat JFK-WAW in J and WAW-BUD in Y.

As of dec 15, Aeroplan is devaluing his points on some destinations by 20%. That's bad news.
From the USA to BRU, was always 90k points + less then 50$ tax RT, from dec it will cost 110k points a RT

Don't have enough points to book it now while keeping the other rez?

Try searching as a Multi City (ATH-FRA-EWR-ATH) online, that should show you actual legs available.
LH
LH has lots of phantom availability on Aeroplan. If you have KVS, you can verify availability through there as well.

Yes. I see reports of issues similar to the ones Aeroplan had last year with Air China seen here (http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/09/11/aeroplan-blocking-air-china-award-space/)
On a side note it also seems that CA international flights are still blocked on United as well.

With the deval taking effect December 15th, "can I/should I" do the following for my flight from VIE-FRA-JFK in mid January:
Can I book for my date today at 45k (due to only J being available for LH) and then pay the $90CAD and the additional 17.5k miles to upgrade to F when it opens closer to departure or will they charge me $90CAD and 25k miles as per the new award chart taking effect? If they are going to charge me the extra mileage as per the new award chart, I might as well wait until close in and save myself $90.

I have a similar situation with a ticket already booked, but may need to changed after dec 15. I would imagine they'll charge the new rate difference after Dec 15. I'd say wait close in.

Only some changes have been made as of right now.
Just searched Europe 1 to America and its still showing at old chart.
Just searched 1 way Europe to Australia and it allows a 1 way booking at the new chart level.

if you don't live in Canada you have 3 years instead of 1 year, so is your address updated? or its still in Canada?

still in canada, however i moved more than a year ago. if i change address now is there any data to prove they will reinstate?
is there any other way? like an old car rental etc?

If you show them proof that you moved they will reinstate it.

like what?
are you sure it will work?

If my miles are still active and I moved, will that extend it another 24 months? Will I need to provide proof?
if you don't live in Canada you have 3 years instead of 1 year, so is your address updated? or its still in Canada?
Dan,
If this is correct maybe you can update your DDMS post (http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/61695#more-61695), as it shows 12 month expiration across the board.

If I want to rebook a canceled ticket that has been affected by the deval, will I need to pay the difference in miles?
-
I would like to do a mini-rtw trip including Israel for Pesach. 2 adults and a 1yo, so I'm thinking AC miles would be the best? I always wanted to visit SA, and for the final stop I'm interested either Thailand, Bali, Australia, or NZ. I'm open to other suggestions. I've never booked F class, so I'm really not familiar with what to expect availability wise. So as far as airlines and routings are concerned, I'm completely open to suggestions, but I would also like to get the best bang for my buck in experiencing premium cabins. Can I go lax-tlv stop tlv-jnb stop jnb- one of the abovementioned destinations stop, and then back to lax? As far as the routing rules are concerned. I'm not seeing the ability to search 4 segments on AC website. Should I be looking at ANA for availability?
ETA: minimize/eliminate yq.

Their multi city search tool is pretty decent, YQ might cost you a fortune though depends how you route this intiniery.

Sorry, forgot to mention: I don't wanna pay yq :) Shouldn't be too tough- they don't charge yq for many, if not most of their partners.

Add yourself as an AU on her account.
-
thanks all worked fine.
Here is the big weird thing that happened. We are 4 people on a reservation on SA via Aeroplan, so I called to have 2 of the passengers upgraded to Biz/1st all went fine they deducted the 100k and charged the $90 per person, they said you have to pay the miles for the whole round trip even though at this time the return in 1st is still not available, they said I should just call as it gets closer to the flight and if it is available they will upgrade it with no more fees, Ok so all seems fine till here.
This is where it gets intresting, I go online a short while later and I see that 2 more seats have become available, so I call to upgrade the other 2 seats (which at this point it is kind of split in to 2 separate reservations) and I get this very pleasant lady on the phone we chat and I tell her that I want to upgrade the 2 as when I called it was not available, make a long story short, she upgrades the other 2 passengers, though does not charge the $90 per passenger and the 100k remain in my account, I get the SA refrence and when I call the SA rep was able to assign me seats in 1st for all 4 of us, and when I check on SA it all shows up good, but when I check on earoplans site, so the 1st reservation where I paid it says ticketed... where as mine it shows up fine and it says reward value 250k and it says unticketed.
should I call aeroplan and figure it out and they will probably charge the fees and the 100k miles, or do I just go with the fact that It shows up on SA?
-

Does this still work?
http://onemileatatime.boardingarea.com/2014/01/09/booking-aeroplan-awards-without-fuel-surcharges/
So in the above example if you booked United roundtrip and flew Washington to Frankfurt, you could change your Frankfurt to Washington flight from United to Lufthansa and you would just be charged the $90CAD change fee, and not for the additional ~$430 worth of fuel surcharges that would apply if you had booked it in advance.

They rejected much simpler routing than that for me. The multi-city rules dont allow you to bypass the original point of departure. They are very strict about zones etc.

Whats cancellation policy with Aeroplan Award tickets on United? Can I cancel within 24hrs if flight is within 24hrs?

No cancellations allowed w/o penalty even 2 minutes later unless you get a Rep who will do it as a goodwill gesture

Is there an option to have a household account by aeroplane?
We recently flew with AC and only wife could collect the miles cuz account is under her name.
As per rep it cost .2 cents each mile to transfer so don't see the point of a separate account.

To general of a question, it depends where you're originating from.
If you find a stupid/nice phone rep they will allow backtracking etc.
Play around with different routes online and over the phone

I paid $90 CAD (usually it's $150 as per their new rate) and got it canceled/refunded. They said I pay $90 because it's a US account, and $150 is only for Canadians. I didn't complaint :-)
If anyone can confirm that the DOT rule should apply here I will go ahead and open a complaint, I don't see why they should be exempt.

Should be fine. To confirm (and do seat / meal selections):
Call Lufthansa, give them the Aeroplan e-ticket number and they'll give you their PNR. Technically you can call Aeroplan and ask them for the LH PNR, but their hold times are usually much longer.
MUC-DEN is only 70k OW in F btw.

Thanks. I should've been more specific. It's really OTP-MUC-DEN which is 80k but OTP-MUC is showing as Business (I).

Not necessary to call. go to swiss air manage booking, enter AC ticket number and you'll get LH PNR

How come that aeroplan do not offer free cancellations within 24 hours on their awards? Are they not bound to dot rules because they are based in Canada?

We have all been wondering the same thing...
They are legally bound for all flights that touch the US regardless of where they are based.
Maybe legally award flights don't require it, I'm not sure
-
As per a manager there, being as they are based in Canada they are not subject to US DOT rules.

I don't see anything related in the first sentence....
If the flight does not touch US soil they're for sure not bonded to the US DOT, I would argue that even it does touch US soil, if it starts in Canada they're not bonded to the US DOT.

Just transferred (15 min before 12am) for the bonus. Hope it works. I know the bonus takes a few weeks to post but how long does it take for regular miles to post?

Uniprix stores in Canada, 1 point per $.

Do you have regular Amex MR? If so, do this:
Transfer in 1k points from Amex.
If not, you can always donate 1k miles to charity through Aeroplan.
Any type of activity will extend mileage expiration.

its nothing related to a credit card.
you go in to 1 of the Uniprix branches in Canada, buy for minimum $1 before tax (not an item for .99) at check out you pay by cash or credit card, you provide any aeroplan number, & the account will be credited 1 point per dollar.

Sorry for harping on this but this is all new to me. If only a dollar is spent it will extend the mileage another year? What's Uniprix, a store? I have friends in Toronto. Please let me know. Thanks.
-
you get 1 point per dollar spent, so since you have a transaction, this will keep your account active for another year.
Uniprix is a pharmacy chain in Canada, selling also many other products.
just make sure, when buying only for $1, that its not .99, it need to be $1 before tax.

If you know you have someone, wait till 1 week before expiration date (you can technically wait till day before, but better to give some wiggle room).
Worst case, if you haven't done it by day before expiration, then either donate 1k miles or transfer in extra 1k.

Apologies for the n00b question, never used aeroplan before. If I try to book a flight from LGA - YYZ in a week from now, the price is 7.5k + $70.00 but if I pick a date a month from now its 10.5k + $7.10. Are they cbarging closein fees? I thought AC doesnt.

Found LO availability in J when I searched on UA. Tried to replicate on AC and couldnt. So I though it may be phantom. Called AC to confirm my suspicions and was told by a supervisor that AC is "inhibited" from booking LO awards.
Anything to do with http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=85505.msg1831389#msg1831389 ?
Is this a DoT reportable issue?

I appreciate that there are alternatives. The point was that AC cannot book LO, short haul or long haul. I dont specifically need just KRK-WAW. I need KRK-WAW-JFK. And whether you split them or marry them AC cannot book LO, period.

Would you rather they book you what UA shows and awhile later LO come back and cancel your segments?
It makes sense they closed that bridge (hopefully temporarily) while they sort out their issues.

So you're saying I shouldnt bother booking on LH either? Shows availability on LH and was gonna use 52.5k + ~$130. Wouldnt mind being reaccomodated on LH without the YQ.

If you’re open to flying on LO, then I’d certainly book with LH. If they honor it, you get what you paid for. If they don’t, you get a happy alternative.

250 CAD.
Aeroplan does not allow redeposit of miles within 22 days of travel, so you’d first have to pay 100 CAD to change the flight to outside of the 22 days, then pay 150 CAD redeposit fee. Reps will usually do this all for you in 1 transaction / phone call, however it’s still the 250 CAD fee.
You also have the option of cancelling and leaving the miles as a credit (to be used within 1 year), and then at the time of rebooking just pay the 100 CAD change fee. If in 11 months you still haven’t used the credit, you can pay the 250 CAD then to redeposit.

I have no clue what he meant. I can speculate that if the third region is cheaper than the second then you get the lower fare. I tried doing something like that last week JFK zrh lhr zrh tlv JFK was the only valid routing they would allow me. Any other combination of those created open drawers that were impermissible. Agent was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what created an open jaw or stop over which is not allowed on a OW.

It's not quite Plan B what AC does, since if it doesn't open, you don't get any refund (as the rest of your ticket is J).
Maybe add a throw away segment?
Not really worth it, since if it doesn't open in J, he'll have paid the extra miles for nothing.

Update: Per rep and internal notes, no LO bookings available, again. Been "inhibited" since April 20. Guess I got lucky in the March to early April window.
LO now bookable once again.

I and my wife got emails that our Aeroplan miles are about to expire. Any ideas?
1. Transfer a minimal # of points from Amex or SPG to keep all your points from expiring.
2. If you live in Canada, go to Esso and buy $3 of gas and swipe your Aeroplan card. IIRC they'll even take a # without a card, so if you have a friend in Canada who wants to buy gas and give you the points....
3. Buy something from the Aeroplan e-store. I think it works just like a cash back portal, and also takes 6-8 weeks for miles to be credited to your account (not sure how quickly option 2 posts).
4. If all else fails, sell your miles to a broker, provided that someone's willing to buy your miles close to expiry.

We don't have cards or we'd just use them. I do have spg. I'm gonna look and see how much we both have if it's actually worth it. I know we don't have much. Thanks

Like I said, IIRC Esso will let you give them your Aeroplan # without your card. And the Aeroplan e-store doesn't need a card.

Esso does not give Aeroplan miles anymore as of May 31st.

I was looking at a flight from YYZ-TLV OW for 40k. I thought I checked the fees and that it was minimal. Now that I'm ready to book I see fee for $395.76. Is this a mistake? Seems very high, no?

Depends which airline your flight is on. Aeroplan doesn't charge YQ on United and Swiss.

Anther simple option that I left out is to donate 1000 miles to charity through Aeroplan's site to keep all your miles alive.

How come that aeroplan do not offer free cancellations within 24 hours on their awards? Are they not bound to dot rules because they are based in Canada?
Is this correct that you can cancel a Aeroplan reservation within 24hrs of booking?

What am I missing, What's the point of having aeroplan, What does it have that AC can't arange on there own?
On the other hand, this is in some ways a very noble thing for Air Canada to do (and I realize they’re not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, but…). Aeroplan members are understandably concerned about the future of their miles, since the future is uncertain for Aeroplan. While people technically collected miles with Aeroplan for all of these years, they were largely loyal to Air Canada, so is it fair that their miles are no longer associated with Air Canada? Wanting to continue to honor members’ miles is largely a good thing.
On top of that, presumably there’s some back-end technology and data that Aeroplan has that could be very useful to Air Canada.

from Aeroplan
Dear XXXXX,
You may have seen or heard several things in the news recently about the future of the Aeroplan program.
I want to reassure you that we are committed to building Canada's best travel loyalty program providing you with exceptional value on flight rewards, increased flexibility and an enhanced experience. This includes the ability to redeem your miles for any seat on any airline (including Air Canada), at any time, to anywhere you want to go come July 2020.
We're proud to announce a comprehensive partnership with Porter that will allow you to earn and redeem Aeroplan Miles with them beginning in July 2020. We're also in active discussions with other major airlines and airline networks, with more exciting announcements to come. We remain committed to maintaining flight reward mileage levels that start at the same amounts as today on members' most redeemed destinations. For more details about our future plans, click here.
In the meantime, you will continue to earn and redeem with Air Canada and Star Alliance member airlines through June 2020 under our current agreement.
I realize that you will have questions about the program between now and 2020. I will continue to provide you with information as we work toward building a better Aeroplan program for you. You can find answers to more questions here.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Rabe
CEO

i placed the question to the DOT, here is their answer.
This responds to your communication regarding Aeroplan.
Aeroplan is a ticketing agent; not an airline. Therefore, in this case, it does not fall under the Department's 24-hour reservation requirement rule.

I booked a Lufthansa flight with aeroplan. BUD -FRA - JFK. The bud to fra was delayed and we would have missed the fra to Jfk flight. So Lufthansa put us on a Swiss flight BUD - ZRH - EWR. As we all know. There is very little tax on a Swiss flight vs Lufthansa. Is there any way to get the Tax refunded ?
I tried over the phone and was turned down . They say if I would have called aeroplan to rebook me then maybe they could do it. But since Lufthansa did it then I am out of luck. Any taught?

Does Aeroplan allow to add segments. For example JFK to FRA to LHR on Lufthansa. Would calling Aeroplan allow for adding a positioning flight in the US to JFK?

Any thoughts on which flight I should take?
Flight for tom the 17th from NYC-LAX are pricing around $236 On studentuniverse.com with a HC to SEA, or for 12k Booked through AC, wouldn't think twice to take the 12k, but living in brooklyn would only want to fly out of lga or jfk.
While on AC theres only flights with stopovers leaving from lga, and then direct from ewr, which requires a 30-45 min drive which I would need to take a taxi which which cost 40-50$.
BA wants 20k, AA has for 12k which works great for me but dont have spg.(Only UR/MR) SW lowest at 30k
Singapore/Kris flyer 20k In j but a stopover in Panama.
Any other options I'm not seeing? Thanks.

You sure they're not operated by AC?
-
You sure they're not operated by AC?
Yes it is indeed operated by AC.
Was just curios to know why AC charges, while most carriers don't charge the heavy fees only on a return from Canada to the US.
Didn't mean it's a united flight, meant that united and AC are interchangeable when booking an award, they both display each other's awards.
With that being said, will search again for a UA operated flight on Aeroplan. It's either this 7.5K and around $55 taxes or a united 10/12.5K flight and work out the close in fee so only $5.60 in taxes. (Calculating the cost of flying from EWR which has gas and tolls to get there, might just make it worth flying from LGA/JFk and pay the taxes.)
It stinks that BA/AA has 0 award avlbty, they used to be amazing for this, and now last minute awards they're down in the dumps(Even tried all the routes I pulled up via HC and searched for those dates and Airports, but nothing doing). So far AC and UA take the cake for last minutes..
Unless SA(Saver Awards)are bookable with AC for a UA I see on UA?

I have a flight from LAX-SFO-LIS-TLV.
The SFO-LIS-TLV is on 6/25 departing 4 pm.
When I booked, I could only find LAX-SFO on 6/24 departing 11 pm.
Now, there are morning flights available on 6/25, which is much more convenient.
Is there any way to change without the fee?
There was a minor schedule change (by minutes) and they wouldn't do it for free.
Any ideas?

Looking to book with AC miles on partner airlines. how accommodating are they in case of IRROPS?
do they have access to put you on other airlines revenue tickets?
Asking specifically as the itinerary includes an hour and 15 min connection with Turkish and i'm worried about what happens if there is a delay.

I think every airline gets you on the next flight...except Spirit...they put you on a bus. I would venture a guess that 99% of unplanned flight changes from awards become revenue. I'd love to get statistics on that.

I guess my concern with Aeroplan is that they are not strictly an airline, so do they still have access to other revenue seats? i know that they will be shortly folded into AC proper.

Airlines always have access to the ticket 24-72 hours before the flight regardless the agency that booked them.
hm interesting, so you say TK is responsible even thought the delay would be Egyptairs fault?
-

That's what are alliances for. As long as both flights are under the same PNR.
-
hm interesting, so you say TK is responsible even thought the delay would be Egyptairs fault?
If you are on one itinerary what difference does it make? Theyre both *A carriers and you're connecting from one to another. Who cares whose fault it is? e.g. If you fly UA connecting to LH and they sold you the ticket, allowing for MCT, they need to rebook you. Why should this be any different? This is "Connecting Flights, Same Alliance, Same Itinerary 101". Your concerns are all from the AC booking. Thats over once you booked and are ticketed.
-
Thats over once you booked and are ticketed.
-1, that's only true once the airline takes control of the ticket which only happens close in.

I’m pleased to share some changes designed to make Aeroplan more flexible and member friendly. We’re excited to introduce a new, more rewarding loyalty program next year, and in the meantime, we’re committed to listening to you and implementing improvements like the ones below. With this in mind, the following changes take effect immediately:
Complimentary, full refunds within 24 hours of booking
Travel plans can change, so Aeroplan members will now be able to cancel and refund Flight Rewards for free within 24 hours of booking.
Option to refund your Flight Reward up to 2 hours before departure
Aeroplan members can now cancel and refund their Flight Reward booking for a fee up until 2 hours prior to departure. So i'm booked on LGA-YYZ-IST Biz class using Aeroplan miles. LGA-YYZ is with AC and YYZ-IST is with TK.
If there is a significant change in the LGA-YYZ departure time, will Aeroplan be able to rebook me on a direct JFK-IST TK route instead?

If there is award availability.
Not banking on award availability, was referring to just schedule change, making it a short connection or much longer connection.

So apparently they're going to remove the award chart for North American flights but it sounds like they're going to have an award chart for intercontinental flights and partner flights.
IMHO, let them charge whatever they want for AC flights, the YQ makes it rarely valuable anyway. I think partner flights are where the value lies (think United).

Great award value is true, but $70-$80 in award taxes is insane for a small flight like that, NYC-YYZ and Yul..
I miss the old days of 4.5k or when ba had availability for 7.5k and $5.60 or 35-40 for the return to the US from Canada.

Agree but at same time last minute tickets can go for well over 400 sometimes.
So you still got some value.

What's the best star alliance partner to transfer to book a reward flight on AC flight from Toronto to Orlando?

I booked a United ticket via Aeroplan on Monday the 25th and keep checking back by seat selection for a United confirmation # but it shows to go to United.com. My father booked a ticket for travel on Swiss. ticket was never ticketed =bh found out today a few days before the flight was on the phone for a few hours until he got everything sorted out!!
He asked them why this happened there claiming its a security situation and have to verify each transaction.. asked how he had the miles etc
Aeroplan needs now a PSA to check if your tickets are actually ticketed.

The AC flight I booked on was cancelled and the passenger was pushed to a 7:40am flight, which is too early for them. Is AC required to give me any other flight available that day? Am I limited to only those flight which are available for Aeroplan rewards?
Is it better to call Aeroplan or AirCanada?

try calling from a status account.

I booked a AC, Aeroplan award flight 9return) for the end of the week and need to switch to tomorrow. There is availability. I waited on hold for 90 minutes today but then had to hand up bc my phone would die. Is there any way to make a change online? Can the regular AC customer service make this change if it is an Aeroplan award flight?

Is this really bc of carona virus or just regular cs standard? This is crazy.
-
Lol! This CEO makes a new recording every week. At least they answered the phone, they used to just hang up with no option to wait.

Are there even people manning the phones at this hour on a Sunday? I have been on hold for 1:40 so for, after the initial 90 minutes.
-
Is this really bc of carona virus or just regular cs standard? This is crazy.
It's because of their recent switch to Amadeus. Their call centers have been a disaster for the past few weeks. Many people I've spoken to waited 2+ hours or never got answered.
I've heard that mornings right when they open might be best, and also that selecting french can be much faster. All agents speak english too.
-
Anyone can ask a friend with Diamond for their access. U will be picked up on way faster.

Same happened to me 2 weeks ago. Waited over 2 hours! Once they answered, they were super helpful and even called me back after I got disconnected.

"Flight Redemption Failure" - It is a Swiss one way ticket from Europe to US. Ticket still shows availability when I search again. On hold now with customer service. Frustrating since I just transferred AMEX points once I saw there was availability.

Don't worry, if you see it available on United and ExpertFlyer, the representative will be able to book it for you. You might be on hold for a long time though.

Finally got through after a 1:45 wait. Told me that since I set up my account today, it takes 72/96 hours to register and that is why it didn't work online. They offered to book now for $30 booking fee (charge to book via phone vs online) or wait the 72/96 hours. Despite my frustrations, they wouldn't waive the charge since flight is a few weeks out. Given the wait times, HUCA didn't make sense and I didnt want to lose the business saver redemption.
Beware for those who are trying to use Areoplan for last minute travel and sign up for account same day...

Can someone explain what the street number is and the street name is?
Let's say I live in Brooklyn at 1234 East 56th street, how would you answer those two questions?
Or when It asks me for my street number it means my home number which would be 1 2 3 4?
-
Exactly. Street name is East 56. Street number is 1234
-
Exactly. Street name is East 56. Street number is 1234
Gotchya, I'm used to hearing my home number versus my street number.
What's your home address? And what street you live on? Not what's your street number, as that would be East 56th street, and street name would be East 56th as well, while what's your home number then I would say 1234.

Separately it’s 55k each way. But the middle flight bru-bud Is 15k economy and 30k in business
If I do it together as a multi city
It’s a total of 115k in business
Plus I plan to bring a infant on lap. You know it’s $100. Years assume me if I book it as a multi city I will pay it only once. Correct ?

book online the BRU - BUD, it will confirm the booking without paying the taxes, & it will advise you to call in to pay the taxes, when calling the special number provided, you can ask to add the other flights, so you will save the call center fee.

Never had an issue with them booking for me when i wasn't able to book it online due to whatever reason the site wouldn't allow me to book that flight, but a free excuse to have the booking fee waived and no need to argue to have it waived.

For the first time ever, reach Altitude status without leaving the ground.
If you haven't already reached Altitude status, you can now do so without flying the miles. Between April 20 and May 31 when you earn 50,000 Aeroplan Miles through everyday Travel at Home activities, including miles earned on your Aeroplan credit card, you'll receive Altitude Prestige 25K status valid through 2021. AC extended free cancellation to June 30.
If you'd like to cancel any Flight Reward, the fastest way to do so is at aeroplan.com. Due to high call volumes, we are experiencing long hold times at our contact centres. Until June 30, you can cancel free of charge and receive all of your Aeroplan Miles back in your account, plus a full refund of any associated taxes, fees and surcharges on the unused value of your travel
-
You can now earn & redeem Aeroplan miles on Etihad. No carrier imposed surcharges.

Effective July 20, 2020 we are waiving the current expiry provisions. You will now have 18 months to keep your account active – six months longer than before.
All you have to do to stay active is earn or redeem a single mile. While travel is core to Aeroplan, don't forget that there are many ways to keep your account active, such as:
Shopping online with one of our retail partners
Redeeming for gift cards and merchandise
Donating miles to a participating charity
Buying miles to get to your next reward
Learn more about our 18-month inactivity policy and all the ways to keep your account active.
More flexible options to reinstate your Aeroplan Miles
If your miles do expire, don't worry. Within six months of your account becoming inactive, if you fly on an eligible Air Canada ticket or get any Aeroplan credit card, we'll reactivate all of your recently expired miles.
We also understand that you may have been forced to adjust your travel plans due to COVID-19, so we're taking additional action. If you purchased a trip with Air Canada prior to July 20, 2020, with travel commencing anytime since January 2020 and had to cancel your travel plans, we'll be happy to reinstate all of your Aeroplan Miles which have expired since the beginning of this year. You'll just need to have your Air Canada booking reference on hand.

Absolutely fantastic news from AC, especially flights to Israel will drop to 70k from 85k from the East Coast and no more YQ on LH!!!

If I am reading this right, one could do JFK-LHR via the Pacific, and have it price at the 8,001+ range of an Atlantic award. This would mean one could do JFK-SYD-LHR with a stopover in SYD for 130,000 + 5,000 miles, no YQ, in F, or 100K + 5K in J. That seems pretty spectacular to me

Aeroplan can now be used for Cathay...
Limited routes (look like Asia only) and high redemption rates...

Didn't analyze your specific routes but there are some rules they put in place to limit creative routings.

FWIW, as of today Aeroplan has added the ability to earn and redeem on Vistara Airlines, based in India.

Call waits are at ZERO now. I called last night, was answered in a matter of seconds.
I had an interesting thing, got J class tickets on UA MCO-EWR when I booked a Y class and paid Y mileage rate. I have a theory how this happened, maybe there is a new hole? Don't PM me. I'll try it again on my next trip and hopefully this newfound innocent trick works again.

Altitude Wi-Fi Plan.
Earlier this year, you chose the 12‑month Altitude Wi‑Fi Plan as one of your Select Privileges. This enables you to get internet access on Gogo®-equipped Air Canada flights.
You’ll also be able to choose complimentary Gogo Wi‑Fi as one of your 2021 Select Benefits early next year.
I was glad to find out about this.

Anyone have Aeroplan miles to sell or book a ticket for money?
-
Does anyone know if you'll get miles refunded when canceling the return after first part is already flown?

PSA: I recently made a bunch of aeroplan bookings and had to cancel/rebook many of them. Of 25 cancellations, Aeroplan failed to refund the points or taxes/fees for 3 tickets (on 2 different accounts) even though I received a cancellation/refund email.
It was pretty easy to sort out with them over the phone and they said they've seen this issue but I almost didn't notice as they were all cheap short-haul flights, and the activity section on their website isn't great so it took a bit of time to figure out which booking references hadn't been refunded. One was a full booking and the other was a booking where some passengers' flights had been refunded and 2 passengers' had not.
On my 25 cancellations their margin of error in not refunding was over 10%, so double-check any cancellations that you make.
