Add them to the Wiki :)
Fist start a wiki, then add :)
-
It would be cool if someone can put together a wiki of the coolest fifth freedom routes out there perhaps sorted by nicest cabins/shortest/cheapest routes. A nice example would be Manchester to Munich on SQ's 777.
Thanks Dan

EY anyone?

Anyone want to add these to the wiki http://travelcodex.com/2012/12/taking-advantage-of-fifth-freedom-flights/

Wiki says SQ has LAX-FRA. Is this true?
-
SQ flies from bcn to Sao Paulo.
Sorry Can't edit the wiki from taptalk

Wiki says SQ has LAX-FRA. Is this true?
It's a mistake it should be JFK FRA.
Another interesting one is Korean air
Vie ZRH
-
Qatar airways
Kuala Lumpur to phuket
BUD to Zagreb
-
Added a lot of BA
-
Qatar airways
Kuala Lumpur to phuket
Doesn't show up on ITA.
-
Are 5th Freedom flights cheaper than other airlines that fly the same route? Is that the chap?
-
Not necessarily.
-
So what's so special?
-
Added a lot of BA
The south Africa are not 5th Freedom, as they are a different airline under the BA livery
-
They're bookable with Avios as BA flights.
-
A few notes to the wiki
QF is not "5th freedom", same as UA SYD-MEL
9W doesn't fly out of JFK anymore
-
So what's so special?
They're cool :)
-
So what's so special?
Potential to fly an airline not between it's home city.

The ability to try out different things that may otherwise not be possible, such as flying in a suite without going halfway around the world.

That too. But it really comes into play when there is a luxurious airline flying on a route that otherwise you wouldn't be able to get. Say jfk to Vancouver either you can spend the same many points on some crap american airline or u can get pajamas with cx

I have a few extra lh f pjs if your really desperate.

Since Dubai changed policies allowing to carry rocket propelled grenades in the airport, some people are afraid to fly into DXB.
But they can still try EK's on board shower by flying HKG-BKK on the A380.

Doesn't come close to CX's PJs.

Where can I check for QF availability JFK-LAX? Will it show up as available if I only search JFK-LAX on BA if it is available?

I guess with some hacking it should be bookable. My question is how can I see availability? Is availability as brutal as LAX-MLE?

My guess would be that more seats are available, as many people only board at LAX, but I doubt it has different availability then it's following flight LAX-MEL, CMIIW.
Also FYI, from what I know, it's a aircraft change to a smaller plane.

Availability is a bit better.
They fly the 747 without F, I believe its the plane that comes from BNE.
-

Pretty sure that even if you book it you wont be able to book without evidence of either having arrived from Oz on a QF flight or are departing on one. A refundable ticket might do the job

-.5 it's not a klal, this plane brings people to LAX but these people continue to three different Australian airports,so in most cases these flights are packed, I've heard several times that it's was almost empty, but whenever I flew there was barely any empty seats

I flew it before and got a full row of 4 seats to myself!(I wasn't the only one with a full row to myself.)
-
I said that, usually is the LAX-NYC and not the LAX-NYC with the empty flights, but I never had such a thing from my 4 flights

Is it difficult or even possible to book LHR to DXB with Qantas in R?

They offer Premium Economy on that flight IIRC.
Only?

I am not sure I understood your question. They have 4 classes on the plane that goes LHR-DXB.

Not fifth freedom. Same as etihad using jet airways for lots of their flights.

@Buruch - BA out of JNB are not 5th freedom

@Buruch - BA out of JNB are not 5th freedom
I said they were? I only edited the wiki to put in a couple (not all existing) BA Caribbean routes. I also confirmed with BA that codeshare AA flights on Seaborne are not eligible for Avios redemption :( That puts SJU-DOM off the table, and perhaps others. But you can still do MIA-PLS-ANU-SKB-MIA for 25k off peak plus about 75-100 in taxes. Those flights would cost at least 1,200 normally.

Its a valid 5th freedom flight...... If you fly package class

For CX flights, you need to search through BA, then call AS to book.

Air China flies a 5th freedom route YUL-HAV and back (feeds from PEK). I checked some random dates and found fares for ~#350 in Y and ~$850 in lie-flat J (773).
Theoretically this should be bookable for 35/60k SQ (UA can't book to HAV).
Cuban visa is included in the price and gets picked up at the gate.
Added to wiki.

This is by very definition impossible. The fifth freedom allows an airline to carry revenue traffic between foreign countries as a part of services connecting the airline's own country.
