Title: Citi Premier Master Thread
Post by: MilesNpoints on April 19, 2015, 08:03:20 PM
To signup for credit cards you can click here or on the “other credit cards” tab on top of the DansDeals logo banner to view links for card offers.  (http://www.dansdeals.com/creditcards-com)Then just click on the link to “View all card offers by issuing bank” (http://www.dansdeals.com/creditcards-com) and scroll down to view all card offers from the bank of your choice.

This differs from the other offer, which gave the bonus split over year 1 and year 2 (which pretty much sucks.)

With this offer, you get the full 50,000 TY points after the spend and the annual fee is waived the first year.  I've stayed clear of TY points because I didn't feel they had the value of what Chase, AMEX, and SPG offers, but I think the tides are turning now.  With their two decent transfer partners (Singapore and KLM/Air France) it's worth a look.  There's other decent value, as well, but these are the ones that stick out to me.

Dan, feel free to change the wiki to your application link if you have or will get it.

That's a good idea.  I believe the 100k offer he spoke of was for the Prestige, however.

Doesn't have to match, you won't be able to change the name on the Citi website you just leave your name, FB may close your account for name mismatch

You have to wait 18 months if you want to get bonus on same card. Ie, if you got premier bonus once you need to wait 18 months to reapply to get bonus. You can apply for card earlier, but you won't be eligible for bonus.
Eight day rule is that citi won't approve you for any card if you were approved for any card in last 8 days.

On one card I got it on first call, rep knew exactly what to do, said she already matched a couple :)
On other card, had to HUCA and then listen to a lot of hold music, but got it eventually.

2bm doesn't work with Citi, though still possible to get both a business and personal credit card on the same day. It will be two pulls though.

Is the car rental insurance benefit primary?  Any difference from Chase Sapphire?

Language for Citi Premier is listed as:

Worldwide Car Rental Insurance
Be more confident at the rental car counter — you may be covered against theft or damage up to $100,000 for any rental car in any country when you pay with your Citi card and decline the rental company's collision loss/damage insurance.

Secondary in the USA and primary outside...CSP is superior in that regard and the overall travel insurance is better with CSP.

GIYF. Accoriding to TPG (http://) it is secondary in the US and primary internationally

For example, when I log in to my Citi ThankYou Premier Card account and find the car rental insurance portion of my benefits, it specifically includes the following notation:

When do the points from the sign up bonus usually post? I thought they usually posted with the statement. I exceeded the minimum spend, considerably. But the points didn't post.

The chat CSR said that it can take 1 to 2 statement cycles for the points to post. Has anyone had it take this long?

Usually it posts on the statement in which the spending was completed. If the spending was completed within only a few days of the statement closing though (possibly 7 days) then it could take until the next statement to post.

As everybody knows with citi if you downgrade for example the premier card(AF) to the preferred card(non-AF) they will credit the  AF back within 30 days.

You also actually have approx 45 days to retract and go back to the premier card.  Has anybody retracted and if so did the AF reappear right away or in the first year?

I have a Citi Forward card that I got about 8 years ago along with a Citi Premier card that I got about a yearr ago. I linked both my Thank You Points accounts about half a yr ago. I received an email on Friday stating that 10k of my points will be expiring starting 2017. Reason being on June 4th 2016 the policy for the Citi Forward card became all points earned prior to that day expire in 5 years and all points after that day don't expire. On my account it does not differentiate on my total points which are from my Forward and which are from my Premier. So my question is if I transfer those 10k points will it just take it from the "Premier balance" and the 10k from the "Forward balance" will still expire or not? I was told that Citi Forward points don't have all the lucrative travel transfer partners as the Premier points but to me they are all the same Thank You Points so I do not understand that. Any insight is appreciated..................

There is a dedicated thread for this subject. http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=1572.0 Looking back using the search word "Premier", it looks like there has been nothing good lately. I was fortunate, but you would probably not qualify it as "of late".

The AF was supposed to be charged in March but I don't see it, does it make sense that they didn't charge the AF?
Can I apply for a new Premier card if I product changed from the TY to the Premier in the last 24 months but the original account was opened more than 2 years ago?

47k TK will get you a business class ticket on Turkish or *A partner with manageable YQ. A bit of a PITA to actually get the ticket issued but doable.

Your Citi ThankYou points will not expire for as long as they remain a cardholder.

is this accurate practically?  do they really cancel your TY points what if you downgrade to preferred card?

If You mean to the regular thank you card ? Then the answer is no you can’t transfer points, you can gift (transfer) to another TY account up to 100k per year. And you can use the points to book travel at 1cpp , and you can transfer to jetblue at a bad ratio

Recived this email from Citi- prestige card.
Just a bit delayed, but they're rolling out the change now.

Enjoy expanded categories for your $250 Travel Credit Benefit from 5/1/2020 through 12/31/2020
At Citi, we are committed to ensuring that the Citi Prestige Card continues to drive value for our customers throughout these unprecedented times.

[/font] Although we hope for life to return to normal in the near future, we understand that traveling may not be possible for you right now. As such, we have temporarily expanded the categories of purchases that qualify for the $250 Travel Credit benefit1 to help cardmembers who haven’t already received the full value of this benefit in 2020, even if they aren’t able to travel.

Between May 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020, in addition to Travel purchases, purchases made with your Citi Prestige Card at Supermarkets2 and Restaurants (including takeout)2 will also count toward this Expanded $250 Travel Credit benefit in 20202.

Silly me! I applied after the last DDMS post about it. Didn’t realize it’s 24 months from any citi card
Can spouses combine points to 1 account? I can open a premier on my wife’s social.
Dan mentions the 24 month rule
Not sure about combining accounts
But your wife can apply for the premier if she didn't open any citi TY card in past 27 months.
Citi is also notorious for not approving if you have more then 6 inquiries recently

Yes. Might need to wait until 27 months
Check bach in 2 years to see if citi didn't change the rules again 😉

Is it 2 yrs from receiving SUB or 2 yrs from account closure?

anyone taken advantage of the $100 Annual Hotel Savings Benefit ?

i read that it starts august 23 but not sure if its an older benefit being renewed or something new being added.

$100 Annual Hotel Savings Benefit
Once per calendar year, enjoy $100 off a single hotel stay of $500 or more, excluding taxes and fees, when booked through thankyou.com or 1-800-THANKYOU (powered by cxLoyalty) and subject to the additional requirements stated below. To receive the $100 annual hotel savings, you must pre-pay for your complete stay with your Citi Premier Card, ThankYou Points, or a combination thereof. If you choose to use the benefit, the $100 annual hotel savings will be applied at the time of booking.

If you cancel a booking for which you used the $100 hotel savings, the benefit will remain available for use in the same calendar year. All reservations must be changed or canceled through thankyou.com or by calling 1-800-THANKYOU.

Eligibility requirements:

Reservations must be made by the primary cardmember. Reservations can be made in the primary cardmember’s or authorized users’ names
Packaged rates such as air and hotel, or hotel and car rental do not qualify for this benefit
Reservations made through any party or channel other than thankyou.com or 1-800-THANKYOU are not eligible for the $100 annual hotel savings
The $100 annual hotel savings benefit cannot be combined in the same transaction with the Citi Prestige® Card Complimentary 4th Night Hotel Stay if you have both the Citi Premier and Citi Prestige cards. This benefit also cannot be combined with any other promotions or discounts on thankyou.com

if I downgrade to Rewards+SM, is that considered "account closure" in terms of resetting the 24 month clock to getting a SUB on a card?

Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for Citi Rewards+SM, Citi ThankYou® Preferred, Citi ThankYou® Premier/Citi PremierSM or Citi Prestige®, or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months.

so would it be logical to downgrade my premier card to the no fee Rewards+, and in another 15 months (24 months after receiving a SUB on premier) sign up for the premier card a 2nd time?

It will depend if you stay with the same account number. When product changing within the same family you usually stay with the same account number

Just found out the hard way… The extra three months at Citibank was supposed to be giving everyone to meet the bonus is not automatic and your account has to be qualified for it....
And now I see that even if I didn’t get the bonus. I can’t get it for 24 months from time I close the card... not sure how it works if I downgrade since account number stays the same.

Any advice?
Was hoping to downgrade card and then reapply since I didn’t get the bonus

Downgrade in most cases is like a closure

just chatted with citi and they stated that a product change from premier to rewards+ is NOT considered account closure.

as i've received incorrect information in the past, can anyone confirm the above statement?

my plan is to downgrade my premier card to the no fee Rewards+, and in another 15 months (24 months after receiving a SUB on premier) sign up for the premier card a 2nd time.

If a new account number will be issued then it will be considered a closure

1. Is the 1.25 redemption value for travel still applicable for new card holders?
2. If so can can the TY points of another TY card like preferred card for same account holder also be used at a value of 1.25 or only points earned on premier card?

Redeem points on gift cards, merchandise, travel, cash and more
