Who says he knows it's from War Games? Lots of catch phrases become idiomatic in popular culture without people knowing the origin of the phrase. How many times do you quote Shakespeare inadvertently?

If I quote Shakespeare, it's because it is familiar to me because I read the play that the quote was from. How do you quote a line like this without knowing or seeing the movie? I didn't think that line was so popular outside the movie context but I could be wrong.

If you speak English then you quote Shakespeare all the time without knowing it. Unless you're boki in his complete works.

I pronounce it the second way.  I'm named after my elter bubbeh, who made the best babka ever.  Her name was henche, but she was called bubkes (combination of bubbe and babka).  I don't know how she pronounced it.

Some of my cousins tried to call me bubkes.  They now have flat crooked noses.

The Lubavitcher names you listed are in Hebrew, so they don't sound strange.  Yiddish names are not found across all of Judaism, and even those groups who use them don't necessarily use the same ones as each other.

I heard something on the origin of Yiddish names that may not be true, but is interesting.
Back in the old country, many Jews lived far from other Jews and rarely were able to join in a minyan.  When a boy was born, the father made arrangements for a bris as soon as possible - maybe even as early as the 8th day.  And then they called their baby boy by his name.  When a baby girl was born, he didn't have to  to all that work.  When he next participated in a minyan - perhaps at the next Yom Kippur - he would get an aliya and officially name his daughter.      But what to call the little zeiskeit in the meantime?  Why Zissel, of course. Or Sheina, or Bluma, or Feiga, or Eidel etc.  Some Yiddish names and their meaning are here (http://www.20000-names.com/female_yiddish_names.htm).  There are far fewer male Yiddish names than female.

i say stick to biblical names and you're in the clear across the board. everyone knows how to pronounce it. no one asks you 'oh what an unusual name. what does it mean??'
as someone with an unusual (in the secular world anyway) name, plus the fact that i work the phones in customer service, i can tell you i hate my name. i love it because it's unusual but i should have been given a biblical 'legal' name. that's why my daughter is Ann. that's whats on her insurance, credit cards  ::) etc
