Title: Los Angeles Minyanim
Post by: Sam Finkelstein on August 23, 2015, 02:46:47 PM
I though it would be a good idea to start a thread/wiki on this.

The only downside with godaven is that, AFAIK, there is no way to view all the minyanim in one list.

I have no issue doing it, but it's only based on my own knowledge (I always stay in Pico at relatives). If anyone else can contribute, especially LA Brea/Valley, that would be great.

I live in Pico, so I can't help with the other areas.

I'm in LA this week and it is so annoying that some of the shuls don't have the updated zmanim on their website. They have different times for davening for legal holidays and I have no way of knowing what time they are davening. I just found this thread. Next time...

You probably would make the 9:30, depending on how much time it takes you to get your luggage and car. It shouldn't take more than 35-40 minutes to get there from LAX.

If there are no bags to be picked up and you take a cab, you should make it to the 9:00 minyan, assuming that the flight lands on time.

There will be bags. If he can still make it then he may just take a cab and rent a car later.

They would allow someone to lead in non nussach ari?

It's just a matter of reading the words. The slight differences which may anyways come out by mistake are usually not noticeable.

FYI, YICC has relocated the minyanim to various venues as they construct their new building.

See http://www.yicc.org/ on the sidebar for weekday minyan, which is either at Pat's or Beis YICC right there.

On Shabbos, the minyan is at Hillel, at Doheny and Olympic, which is a bit of a walk away.

I started this thread because the regular master thread was too messy for time-sensitive things like Minyanim. If only more people would help with the wiki.

Sounds like Cong Levi Yitzchok is the only 930-10:00 weekday Sharchris in all of LA? Is that correct?

Is this the website? http://www.chabadofla.com/templates/articlecco_cdo/aid/625179/jewish/Davening-Times.htm  (Even though it lists 9am as the last shachris, that is not the fact, correct?)

Also, does anyone know how late a Shachris one can find in San Diego in January?

Which places have an early mincha 12:30- 1:00? The closer to Santa Monica the better, so im assuming Pico is better than La Brea, but fine either way.

What about late Mariv in Pico or La Brea?

The reason I'm asking is because if im staying near the coast, I want to be able to enjoy the sunsets, and not be running to the majority mincha/marivs around shkia time.

Is there such a thing as a minyan factory for mincha or mariv in LA?

Thanks

Link kollel and merkaz hatorah kollel both have midday mincha. Yehoshua probably knows exact times.  Link has multiple Maariv minyanim.  Most of the minyan factory types are more shachris than evening services.
There's going to be a lot of rain the next few days,  wouldn't plan around sunsets

If you're coming from Palm Springs you should go to pico Robertson, daven, eat and go to the airport. Every shul in pico has a mincha and Maariv minyan, figure 15 minutes before shkia, which was about 630 today.

Hey,

Been working on this website, lajewishtimes.com, to provide accurate minyanim for people in LA, and just added up to date restaurants with hechsherim as well.
Anyway, we can get it added to the wiki, this will be a great asset for anyone living in LA, or just visiting. Remember once again this is updated weekly and I am in contact with most shuls in LA for there accurate times, so people don't show up for minyanim, that have been discontinued 6 months ago.

Please let me know your thoughts as well, love to continue improving it as well.
