Title: Need advice how to deposit a check
Post by: Ergel on December 27, 2015, 08:42:54 PM
I have a fairly substantial check I need to deposit before the end of the year. I was planning on doing that tomorrow in Niagara. However, now that I am sitting down to plan my route, I see there are no Chase banks or Wells Fargo banks within 50 miles of Niagara. I also have accounts with American Express and Fidelity.
Anyone with any bright ideas about how to solve this issue

I saw Nigeria instead of Niagra...I was thinking hmmm did a Niagra price send you a check haha . . . I wonder if the phone app will let the check go through with such a big amount.

What about mailing it to the bank. Call them and explain and ask if you could mail it to them for deposit.

You can deposit a US cheque in a Canadian account and they will just convert it into Canadian Dollars.

That's what i came up with too. Looking for another idea but this is the last resort
Open an account in a nearby bank?
Too much effort

I know I could do that but no guarantee that it will be deposited on time.

They take FOREVER to process. No way it will be done by the end of the year

With chase, it depends on the account. If you have 10k in the account then you become a chase private client which lets you deposit $25k with the app.
Not sure what the timeframe is for these changes.

If this is for tax purposes, there's no need for it to reach the account by the end of the year, just initiating the process is fine.

I was never sure what the parameters for being a private client are. It's having 10k? I thought it was higher.

There's no hard requirement, it's up to your local banker.
If you have a friend who's a Chase banker they can do it with $1 in the account.

I've been a CPC for as long as i can remember, but that probably was a carryover from a family member. I have yet to figure out any difference it makes. (I guess that the new higher limits for private clients is a solid difference.)

I should've asked for free checks, instead of getting from a printing service. Thanks for the tip. (I use fidelity whenever i need to use an outside or foreign ATM, so i never tried that.) The CPC card is worth anything?

I SMd chase about this, and they didn't know what i was talking about. How do you apply with this bonus? Does it have to be in branch? Do i have to convert account to CPC checking to be eligible, or just being a CPC is enough? (And if i apply with the regular offer, will they match it to 60?) Thanks!

Like most things CPC, you contact your private banker.

You can try sending them this link (click credit cards): https://www.chase.com/online/private_client/concierge-banking.htm

I see OP figured it out. Here is another option though:
Ally bank's (https://www.ally.com/bank/interest-checking-account/) (online only bank) free interest checking account.
Has a mobile deposit limit of $50k/day & $250k/rolling 30 days.
Has most of the benefits of CPC (see link for what little fees they do have).
Great 24/7 customer service ime.
The only big downside is that the are no B&M locations, so you cannot deposit cash. (I load my serve and transfer when I need to deposit cash)

Not so fast.
My deposit was rejected by Fidelity because my Fidelity account is in my name and the check was in my wife's name. Forgoit it wasn't a joint account.
Worst part is that Fidelity makes you write on the endorsement "for Fidelity deposit only" which now basically renders the check useless.
Shoot

On Ally you just need to write "for deposit only" without specifying the bank. Maybe you can cross out the "Fidelity" and try depositing with them?
IIRC you are able to talk to the ppl that look at the check scans...
Though you may not be able to open the account on time...

What did you guys say to get your accounts to Private Client? Would really like to get CPC for increased mobile deposit limits (and no monthly fee)... But I have nowhere near 250k with Chase..

As a side point, if anyone knows what triggers the increase from 2k to 10k, would greatly appreciate that too :)

I was a CPC from before. That account wasn't a CPC checkings, though. The banker didn't make me into a CPC, she just changed the account and made a new debit card.

BTW, the mobile deposit limits on my account are 25k a day, 100k rolling 30 days. QP is 5k.

Ally bank (https://www.ally.com/bank/interest-checking-account/) is free.
Mobile deposit limits are $50k/day, $250k/rolling 30 days.
Popmoney "Limits may vary".
ACH with external accounts is free.
Checks clear according to this timetable: Multiple $5000 checks clear on the 2nd day together.
Doesn't beat Chase with availability... I always have my deposits available the next morning! I can deposit 10:45pm and 10 hours later it's all available.

True. It is a free, no minimum account after all.

Still, good to have available if you hit your main bank's limits, as these are pretty absurd limits

Interesting. I don't think I have that luck. I'll try it out today. You talking about using the mobile app correct?

Do Ally or Chase run your credit when you apply to open an account?

I have an interesting issue, maybe someone here has experience with this.

I have a chase Total Biz checking and a CPC Checking linked under the same login.

The Biz accounts mobile deposit limit is $2k, the CPC's is $25k.

The app will only let me deposit a max of $2k, and the rep said that it is because "The biz account is the hierarchy account", and it will set the deposit limit for all accounts, even though it has the lower limit.

Anyone knows how to fix this without de-linking the accounts?

No experience myself however sounds like a tech issue that could be fixed in a few minutes by first placing the two accounts under two different sign ins. Right after that link the biz  account under the CPC sign in by which the CPC will be the primary sign in . Delinking and linking back isn't a big deal at all. Literally a few minutes

I'm not sure if you can add a business to a personal. I think it has to be the other way around.

Didn't chase increase their mobile deposit limit to $10k? Mine seems to have gone back down to $2k.

Mobile deposit limit is always $2k. For reasons unknown (could be track record etc.) they increase it for certain customers even though they aren't CPC (myself included). Interesting that they knocked it down by you. Have you had any checks deposited through the app that didn't go through recently?

Nope. Actually have barely deposited any checks through app recently but when I did, they all cleared.

My mobile limit was always 2k daily (rolling 5k monthly). Just checked today and it said 5k daily limit (rolling 15k monthly).

Just saved me a trip to the bank  :)

Or I could've done mobile deposit into my secondary BOA account with 10k monthly limit (no daily lock) but that would mean extra work to transfer to main account.
