Title: FREE BMI Diamond Silver Status
Post by: Ryan on March 13, 2011, 01:43:53 AM
For anyone who didn't take advantage of the offer last year, BMI is again offering free Star Alliance Silver Status (http://www.flybmi.com/bmi/en-gb/loyalty-programmes/diamond-club/promotions/exclusive-instant-silver-membership.aspx). Good for 2 free checked bags and priority check-in/boarding on some *A carriers. It doesn't include the 2000 mile bonus that was part of the deal last year.

can I use this offer to just sign up for a new one? my year is almost over.

Based on the T&C the answer would be no. However, if you use a different e-mail address and maybe even a different postal address it could work. YMMV.

If it doesn't work you can always do a status match to Alaska MVP from BMI Diamond Silver and try status matching back to another *A carrier.

Awesome. Thanks. Just signed up.
Now to take full advantage when flying continental. Do I need to put in any special numbers when making my reservation, or would my Reg continental number work?

Never mind. Just read the post from last year on how to do it. By using BMI number then changing it last minute to which ever one you want to use.
But will it still be on file then that you get priority stand by waiting and priority security?
Or do I just show then the *alliance silver card and I'll be cool?
Thanks

Just so everyone else can see how - http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/6684. Personally, when I have used this card I just check in online with the ff number I want to earn on and let the agent deal with making everything free. I figure I may as well use the priority lane service...but with Dan's way you can just drop your bags off and not worry about dealing with an agent.

Once you are on priority standby I doubt changing the ff number would remove you from the list (Can anyone confirm?). For priority security you can just show your ticket with the *A Silver status on it, or you can show your BMI Diamond Silver card.

Post by: Ryan on March 13, 2011, 03:52:38 AM
In the end if changing the ff number causes any issues you can always just show a gate agent the *A silver card and they will give you the benefits, while being that much more helpful.

I did some research. Apparently, this year it is for members of the British KKK.
Membership is $20, so it is probably worth it.

Just spoke with AA regarding the status match. Here is what she sent me:

Thanks for speaking with me today about the special opportunity we are offering for you to obtain American Airlines AAdvantageŽ elite status without meeting the standard qualification requirements. In order to proceed, please provide us with documentation reflecting the elite status level you have in the frequent flier program we discussed.

This documentation must reflect your name and elite status level for the 2011 Membership Year and could be in the form of a dated elite membership card or a copy or screen shot of your most recent account summary. In addition, please provide your AAdvantage number and your preferred phone number in case follow-up is necessary.

If you wish to email this documentation back to us, please be sure to "Reply" to this message - and for prompt service, do not change the subject line. Simply include a copy of your documentation in any of the following formats, not to exceed 1 mb:

          .pdf
          .tif
          .jpg
          .bmp

If you prefer not to send us email, you may FAX copies of your documentation to (817) 963-7882. Be sure to include your AAdvantage number and your preferred phone number.

Please note it is not necessary to send us both an email and a FAX - one or the other will be sufficient. In either case, you can expect to hear from us within approximately one week of receipt of your credentials.

We look forward to welcoming you aboard your next American Airlines flight - as a valued elite member with all of the benefits and privileges that status affords. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards,

Katherine Beckley

Is this normal or should she have just done this for me via phone? I sent her a screenshot.. She said I'd get an answer within 7 days... any reason why they won't match it?

Thx

How could she do it over the phone without any proof?
Let us know what happens!

Of course the real trick will be to get Delta Gold out of BMI Silver (though that was likely a fluke) and then mAAtch to AA Plat.

I don't see why it would. It will only be offered for a limited time anyway. It is a legitimate promotion to encourage people to sign up for their ff club. I have been using it thanks to Dan for the past year without any issues. It is just surprising that other airlines allow you to status match BMI without making you show your statement to prove that you have actually earned the status legitimately.

You'll get a confirmation e-mail that asks you to activate your account. The "confirmation page" basically just informs you that they'll be sending you an activation e-mail.

I now have two BMI Silver accounts -- one expires 05/11 with 2000 miles, the other I set up today expires 03/12.

The email from AA says to provide BMI status information for the 2011 membership year.  Which account would be the best to use for trying to get an AA status match, the one that expires 05/11, or the 03/12 account?

since officially this deal is for new users only - officially you'd be tipping your hand to your violation of the rules - no one is likely to know for sure unless they try...YMMV

On another note, there is no problem opening a second acc, just make slight changes to address, email. and phone # and you will be ok.

Just got this.

We're pleased to see that you recently joined our Diamond Club frequent flyer programme. However, I'm writing to you because unfortunately the link you used to join was an exclusive by invitation only offer and as noted in our terms and conditions was non transferable.

Regrettably, we will not be honouring the Silver status, and over the next few days your account will be downgraded to Blue status. Our decision is final, and we won't be entering into any further correspondence on this. On a positive note though, our frequent flyer programme is one of the most generous programmes around, and you only need to earn 16,000 membership status miles to earn a Silver membership. When you fly with us, or any of the Star Alliance airlines, you'll reach Silver status in no time at all. You'll also have access to all our offers and promotions, as well as being the first to hear about our great sale fares. We hope you'll still enjoy the benefits of your Diamond Club membership.

Regards

Regrettably, we will not be honouring the Silver status, and over the next few days your account will be downgraded to Blue status. Our decision is final, and we won't be entering into any further correspondence on this. On a positive note though, our frequent flyer programme is one of the most generous programmes around, and you only need to earn 16,000 membership status miles to earn a Silver membership. When you fly with us, or any of the Star Alliance airlines, you'll reach Silver status in no time at all. You'll also have access to all our offers and promotions, as well as being the first to hear about our great sale fares. We hope you'll still enjoy the benefits of your Diamond Club membership.

my friends i may have some good news....i logged into my original bmi silver account opened the first time around and its still silver until october 2011! so you may want to check that and get a status match off that...

i also opened a new regular bmi blue account w/ the 1k miles offer and will call now and try and merge my new bmi silver slated for closure into it...perhaps the new club # will throw off the system and retain silver status....your thoughts?

good luck!!

I emailed them back.
A whole מגילה about how I am such a loyal customer, and I will be very disenfranchised by losing the silver status which I thought I had.
And how I have had silver status in the past.
And how they look bad on the blogs.
And that they are anti-semites and will probably take Israel off the map next.
And that it doesn't hurt them since I never fly them anyway, so I only get stuff on other airlines anyway.
And that baggage used to be free anyway.
And that I saw on a blog that this promotion if for the KKK and do they want that to get out. see http://www.dansdeals.com/forums/index.php?topic=6098.0;message=68149

They haven't answered yet.

Delta matched my BMI silver status, so I sent my Delta information to AA.  AA just emailed --

"We will need to see how you earned your Silver medallion status, as this promotion is for members who have flown 25,000 miles to get to Silver  status, not for those who have earned it by means of a credit card or company match."

Anyone else get this response? Since I have ZERO miles flown on Delta, am I out of luck?

Sounds like they're getting smarter.
You can try matching to Continental/United and then to AA as they aren't as generous with handing out elite status for a credit card as Delta is.
